Title: Posting pictures and re-sizing on the forum
Post by: Graham Lee on December 07, 2009, 12:55:54 PM
The maximum size of picture for the forum is 480mm wide and 600mm high.
I use a free downlaodable programme called Irfanview which seems nice and easy to use; http://www.irfanview.net/ (http://www.irfanview.net/)

There is also another thread which may help as well; viewtopic.php?f=21&t=35 (http://balloonchat.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=35)

Does anyone have an Iphone and know of any applications for reducing the size of photos? Been looking but can't find anything yet!!

Can you take the picture in the size required on the iphone? That way re-sizing would not be required.

I could possibly Graham, but then if it's a really good picture, I would be gutted that it's only a low quality. :(

The quality could be the same just the size of picture smaller, but then as you say if you did get that once in a lifetime shot it would be really annoying.

Hi Graham, I'm sure that if you reduce the size of the picture, that would also mean reducing the quality at the same time . . . . . although I might be wrong!!!

If the pixels are the same the quality would be the same  :o  I think, who knows, probably Martin.
But when you blow the picture up the bigger the original picture then the better the quality will be if the pixels are the same.

It depends on how you resize the picture and not having an iPhone I am not sure how it would do it.

Basically if you merely resize a picture then the picture quality should stay the same, however, if you resample a picture it also reduces the dpi.  I believe if you reset the quality of the pictures on a regular mobile phone it will take them at a lower dpi too which is no good as once the dpi is reduced you can never enlarge the picture again without compromising on quality.

Sorry not really an answer to your original question but personally I would continue to look for an app to resize a copy of any photos you take - it's certainly a much safer route.

Just had a look in the Apps store and Photo Forge (£0.59) seems to have very good reviews for being an excellent photo editing software so you will be able to resample copies of your photos in there.

I just tried Microsoft PowerToys Image Resizer for XP work great.
It is a free download from Microsoft.
All you have to do is right click on a photo and pick your size.

Yes it was installed a couple of weeks ago, that is why I did not have to re-size all the pictures you posted this morning Sonia  :D
