I just saw this on facebook,
I would say do not clean the washer as described as this might stretch it.
Clean it by going into the circle rather than around it.

My mac pump hasn't been that smooth over the last few events so I thought I'd pull it apart and see if it needs a bit of grease......

I really need to clean my Mac pump its really squeaky and bumpy! I've cleaned the hand pumps a lot and always works well after but never my Mac. Do I just unscrew all the screws?? I'm terrified I'll break it  :o  Thank you :)

We talked about this at the two care & share days that we run this week.
I was surprised no one cleaned there pumps, hand held and floor standing.

You do have to take them apart sometimes and clean them.
Put the "O" ring in some soapy water for a few minutes and
clean the gunk off the tube and the plastic where the "O" ring sits.

Yes, just take the top two screws out and the middle section will come out of the tube.

Thank you Graham it's lovely and smooth again now! Another thing that's happened is the top seems to have come unstuck... Do I just glue it back in?? Is there a type of strong glue you can recommend if so please?

I use the plumbers plastic contact glue, off down the cabin to check what it's called for you.

This is the glue I use. I think the fact it's PVC cement is the main thing if you are
unable to get the exact brand. Try a smaller DIY shop/plumbers merchant if you can.
