A well deserved congratulations to Christine for winning in the large sculpture competition yesterday at
"The International Party Show" in Birmingham.
Christine was also placed second in the delivery section, which unfortunately I didn't get a picture.
Dont forget that Christine will be lecturing at the Leeds care & share day on Tuesday 29th April.

Thanks Guys and Gals!
So glad you like Percival (As I christened him!) the peacock. Even if I do say so my self, he turned out a treat. I was very nervous as to whether the tail would fan out properly and if it would stay that way and not collapse!
I made a prototype peacock at Millenniumjam last year with a completely different tail construction. This worked okay but needed support but as it could lean on a wall in the multi balloon sculpture competition, this was not a problem. I ran out of time and could not add as many "eyes" to the feathers but still I won 2nd place.
I knew I could do better as I learnt lots by making the first peacock and felt that I wanted to do it again! I Spoke to Colin Myles while at the British Balloon Modelling Convention and showed him photos of the first peacock. He suggested that I should raise the peacock up so that the head was at eye level. At The International Party show, the sculptures have to be free standing so that they can be viewed a from all sides and I had planned to have the bird just standing on the floor.  I could see what he was saying that it would look lost at floor level and as I had no suitable table the idea of a balloon column was suggested. This then evolved into a fence!
Although this made lots more work, It really made the peacock stand out and had the desired effect of making him at eye level.
I have to thank Colin Myles for all the help and advise he gave me and Twistopher (My husband Mike!) and Bubblz for helping me construct it and provide endless cups of tea, coffee and moral support! As well as one whole day,We stayed up all night at the NEC working on it ready for the judging in the morning. We were absolutetly shattered for about 3 days afterwards!
Would I do it again?
You betcha! :D
