If someone asks me why payment has to be in cash, I just tell them that I don't have to claim it.  Since everybody loves scamming the tax man, people accept that answer without question.

most of my customers offer cash anyway and get apologetic about paying by cheque.

Mandy - it's not hard hearted to claim full payment for late cancellation - even for a bereavement, it's standard business practice

last year we had to cancel a holiday on the night before we left because of a death in the family - we had to pay up in full because it was in the companies terms and conditions, fortunatley we had insurance that covered it.

Organizers of large events should have cancellation insurance anyway, with family functions it's a little more delicate to deal with but if you have the provision in your terms and conditions there's no argument .

phew Smiggle, when i just logged on i cringed cos i thought someone would be telling me off on this thread. Im glad you agree and i will make sure its in my contract.
 I dont feel like a heartless beast now. :)
