Balloon Review 056 - Born To Twist DVD by Ralph Dewey

This is the first DVD reviewed from Ralph Dewey. Ralph is well known in the balloon industry and has released many publications in book and DVD format. This DVD comprises of twelve smaller balloon models which may well be idea for line work and in a restaurant.

BUG EYED SPIDER

KIT LIST : 5" BLACK ROUND / 260Q BLACK / 6" WHITE HEART

This is a very quick spider design and looks very nice. Ralph uses a heart for the eyes and care must be taken to make the black body balloons extra soft as you will need to make a side wall bubble and a pinch twist in them. Perfect for Halloween.

RED BIRD

KIT LIST : 260Q RED / 260Q WHITE / 160Q YELLOW

This bird is very quick to make, requires accurate bubble sizing and if made well it is free standing making it perfect for sitting on a restaurant table holding your business card. This is a lovely design and it is great to hear Ralph giving credit to David Grist for inspiring this design.

FROG

KIT LIST : 260Q LIME GREEN / 6" WHITE ROUND

This frog is perfect for line work as it uses only two balloons. It is not the most intricate frog I have seen but this is a real worker and one you will use.

MINI-BIKE

KIT LIST : 260Q GOLDENROD / 260Q BLACK

This mini-bike is a little more intricate than the other designs on this DVD. The body is fairly easy to make and the only challenge I had was trying to make the wheels look round. This would look great with some sort of balloon character riding the bike.

HELICOPTER

KIT LIST : 260Q WHITE / 160Q RED / 260Q DARK BLUE / 6" BLUSH HEART / 160Q WHITE

A simple and fast helicopter which is perfect for restaurant work. The optional pilot can be added as required. The boys love this one.

SPIDER MAN

KIT LIST : 260Q DARK BLUE / RED HEART / 260Q RED

I really am not sure about this one. The red and blue colours symbolise spiderman and kids will recognise it but I have seen much better. A weak addition to this collection in my opinion.

SWORD

KIT LIST : 260Q GOLDENROD / 260Q BLUE

A very quick and easy sword that will not come undone when played with. The sword can be made more intricate by adding the pale blue ends but this isn't necessary if time is limited.

VULTURE

KIT LIST : 260Q PINK / 260Q GOLDENROD / 260Q BLACK / 260Q WHITE

This Vulture is probably the highlight of the DVD for me. The body posture is just perfect and if is even free standing. Possibly a little complex for regular work but you could simply parts of it. Really good.

DUCK

KIT LIST : 260Q BLACK / 350Q WHITE / 260Q GOLDENROD / 260Q WHITE

A fairly standard duck design. I do like how the back of the duck angles up slightly and the white band around the neck is a nice touch.

RACE CAR

KIT LIST : 260Q PALE BLUE / 350Q BLACK . BLUSH HEART

An interesting car body design but the usual tulip twist wheels are time consuming and slow to make. Maybe 4 x 321Qs would help but probably adds extra expenses to a simple design. Not a popular design for me and one I an unlikely to make in the future.

DEVIL

KIT LIST : 260Q RED / RED HEART

Simply awful. In fairness Ralph's under inflated heart shaped head is better than mine as the Devil has little horns but I still don't like it...

SAXOPHONE

KIT LIST : 260Q YELLOW / 350Q RED / 9 or 11" YELLOW ROUND (I used green!)

A quick to make Saxophone. Had I made it with a yellow round it would have looked a whole lot better but I actually like this concept for child interaction potential and simplicity.
