I was very excited to see a second DVD released by Barak Dagan. I thoroughly enjoyed his first DVD (see review) and have high expectations for this release. This DVD contains "Wearable Balloons that bring a big wow!" - so we shall soon see if it lives up to those high expectations!

Before I start my review, as always Barak's service is first rate. Fast international delivery at no additional charge. The DVD itself is well designed. Nice graphics, high quality video and sound, plus Barak brings his own unique style of humour to the proceedings!

The video instructions are easily to follow and you will only need limited balloon experience to be able to make most of these designs.

So in no particular order....

PUFFY BIRD BRACELET

This is a cute little bird that can be used as a bracelet, mounted on a headband or just used as a standalone item. This design uses sidewall bubbles on 5" rounds which some people may find difficult and this may limit your ability to use this for line work given the extra complexity. The chest and tail is the perfect use for a 321Q which I really like. If you can handle making sidewall bubbles under pressure then this one is fairly quick and impressive. I will be using this one a lot.

SHEEP BRACELET

This sheep is really cute and if you want to make it even faster then just leave out the flower attached to the ear. The back of the sheep has three rows of small white 260Q bubbles. I would add five rows as three looks too little to me. This may be one of the easiest sheep I have seen that provides good results. Highly recommended.

PARROT HAT

I've been going crazy making various parrots over the last few weeks so i was very interested to check out this design. Firstly well done to Barak for personally thanking Don Caldwell (yes he used his old name!) and Patrick Van de Ven for the inspiration for this design. I can see some similarities but they are different enough to warrant another set of instructions.

This parrot is bold and cartoon like. The feet design is easier to make than Patrick's version and the purple tops to the legs look more complicated than they really are. Very ingenious. This parrot is fairly large and Barak shows a wonderful hat base to hold the parrot's perch.

This design is the perfect for a less complicated and technically challenging parrot that the one designed by Patrick Van de Ven. Too time consuming for line work but can be made in under 10 mins once you have practiced the design.

Very nice.

DINO BRACELET

A cute little dinosaur. A little easier that Buster's mini-dino and so this may be more suitable for restaurant work. This one is a little advanced by the way the head is made which can be a little tricky. The head design would look good as an ant, insect or even an alien. Has potential and looks good.

RABBIT HAT

A fairly advanced rabbit design. Good use of hearts and rounds but i did struggle to make this one fit together properly. I think I just had some bad luck along the way. This one takes a while to make and so is probably best used as a delivery piece or pre-made for a party.

Great review Darren!

QUICK SMILEY HAT

There is a smiley design on Barak's first DVD but this one is a nice extension that incorporates a very nice versatile hat base design. This one will be good for line work and can be used for a variety of characters - worth a look.

ELEPHANT HAT

I currently use David Brenion's elephant design found on one of his wearable DVDs. This one is a little more complex but avoids the very deep tulip twist or s-twist . The way the legs come together is nice but my version of the head just doesn't sit right. Worth a look if you haven't an existing elephant design but for i will stick with David's.

PUPPY BRACELET

An interesting puppy design using a heart for the head. A great concept and one that could be worked upon for other creations. This puppy should have eye brows but they popped three times and I gave up! I wouldn't use this design myself for line work or general gigs as it is a bit too time consuming.

PANDA BEAR

This one went a little wrong and to be honest it was a little tricky to follow on the DVD instructions. As with the puppy this uses a new concept i haven't seen before which involves wrapping loops of 160 around the main head. Barak's finished version is much better than mine and I think you will need to make this one a few times to be happy with it.

HEART HAT

A quick and very large hat. To be honest when I first made this I didn't really thing it would go down very well with my usual audience. I was wrong. The adults loved wearing this hat! I had to use an electric pump to help me inflate and curve the 350Qs.

HUMAN HAT

An interesting face design which can be used for any character. If you are not familiar at weaving then this tutorial provides you with an opportunity to learn the basis. Too complicated and time consuming for line or walkabout work and probably not something I would pre-make before an event. Even so there are some nice concepts to be learned here.

SUMMARY

Another excellent DVD by Barak. A fun collection of designs, well presented with easy to follow instructions. I would say Vol 1 has the slight edge over the second volume but well worth investing in.
