Title: Graham Lee DVD 7 Step by Step
Post by: Graham Lee on April 22, 2016, 11:41:49 AM
The pictures on the back cover from DVD 7 are not of the best quality.
So I thought I'd look through my folders to see if I could find the originals,
then thought, well I might as well just make them again and re-photograph.
So on the back cover are a bird eating a worm, a motorbike and the flower wrist bracelet
that moves when you walk.

So not sure what ones I will do step by step but will have a look through over the next few days.

And all together. I'm going to take the same pictures on a white background in a while to see if that might be better for the new cover design.

On the white background, going to have a look at DVD 7 to choose three items to do the step by step on.
These pictures are what is on the back cover, I like the flower bracelet as it has some movement.

I'm going to put the instructions up for this wrist bracelet that has a little movement.
I used to make this a lot many years back but forgot about it, it did make it onto DVD 7,
Live form Holland. I think this is pretty usable in the real world.

I have made this in two different ways and will explain both.

Here we go then with details about the bracelet flower,
I will be describing two ways to make this so please read through first to decide which one you would prefer to make.

So to make this one in the picture,
Inflate a 160 leaving 8 fingers un-inflated, make a 2 finger fold twist followed by a 1 finger pinch twist.

You then need to make seven more 2 finger fold twists.

You can just have a six fold twist base, it might be easier the first few times you make this.

Now with the same balloon you need three 3 finger fold twists.

Take a green 160 for the stem and centre of the flower, inflate for a 2 finger bubble.

I put a knot at both ends, it makes it easier to tie the balloon.

Make a 1 finger bubble at both ends and tie into a loose knot so the bubble is roundish.

Tie into two and attach to the base of the flower.

The flowers are made form a 260 balloon, inflate approx. half way.
Twist two 2 finger bubbles.
Run the balloon over the centre of these two bubbles which turns then into two pinch twists.

You could make two separate 2 finger pinch twists if you preferred, I like to do it this way.

Then make another 2 finger pinch twist and tie securely around the other two pinch twists.

You do not have to add these extra bubbles now, the flower would sit OK like this.

I do make it with these extra bubbles though.
Twist two half finger bubbles and secure the balloon around the pinch twists.

I then take the balloon over the centre of these two bubbles to form two more very small pinch twists.

Hopefully your flower is looking a little like this?

Attach the flower to the stem.

It might not stand up right as in the first picture, it's top heavy.
Just wrap the lower stem around the bracelet section a couple of times till it sits
upright as in the second picture.

To make version two of the flower, make the eight petal base. Deflate the rest of the balloon,
and leave the excess, you need this to tie the lower section of the stem onto the base.

Inflate the centre of the 160 green, before you inflate this stretch the centre section to weaken it a little.
Hold your hand over the first section of the 160 and the centre should inflate, there is a little knack with this
so please try it a few times.

Tie a knot at both ends and make a 1 finger bubble at each end like I explained previously.

You should have approx. a 9 finger length of inflated 160, twist a 3 finger fold twist
in the centre of the balloon and then double the stem back from both sides to make the
other two 3 finger fold twists.

Attach the base to the flower stem by wrapping the excess of the pink over the stem base a few times.
Add the flowers as made and explained previously.
You may need to adjust the length of the stem so the flower sits up and is not too top heavy.

To attach to wrist, puff inflate a 160 green, or a 260.
Tie together, cut off excess and wrap around the base of the base and stem.

A few I made while taking the pictures for the explanations.

I need to decide what design to show next from DVD 7............decisions, decisions.

It's been a while so I'd better take another look at DVD 7 and decide what design to explain.

So I was trying to decide what other designs to show from this DVD,
the crown, the swan or I do like the little handbag.
All these decisions and it's still so early in the day, no wonder I get so stressed.

The picture of the first swan is the one shown on the DVD but with a 260 for the rear section as well.
I made the variation with a 350 and 260 and this might be the model for next months competition,
another one for the real world perhaps.

and some crown variations, they are all slightly different to what was shown on the DVD.

I think I will show the handbag next and then make a decision on the final design to share.

The one balloon bird from a 260 was shown on the DVD,
I was playing about with different sizes to see how it came out.

I decided to go with a simple handbag design that goes down well when I explain this when lecturing.

This is also a simpler way of constructing the handbag, different to on the DVD but with the same end result.

Choose the colour combination you would like and inflate a 260 to a 4 finger bubble,
this needs to be made into two pinch twists, either with your favourite method or as I describe below.

The 160 inflate leaving approx. a 6 finger un-inflated section.
Tie the two balloons together and cut off excess for a neater look
as all the twists come back to this point and you do not want it looking too bulky.

Split the 260 four finger bubble in half and wrap the end of the balloon around the knotted section.

Then pull the rest of the 260 over the top of the two 2 finger bubbles
to form two even sized and even pressured pinch twists.
This makes the clasp and handle of the handbag.

Make a 4 finger bubble followed by four 1.5 finger bubbles and then another 4 finger bubble.
Twist the 160 around the two pinch twists.

Then make a 5 finger bubble and twist this around the first 1.5 finger bubble next to the 4 finger bubble.

Come up the other side with another 5 finger bubble to match the one at the front
and twist this bubble around the two pinch twists.

The middle three sections are all doubled up.

The centre section of the handbag is a 6 finger bubble taken down to the next 1.5 finger bubble at the bottom of the bag.
Match this up on the other side with a 6 finger bubble and twist this into the two pinch twists.

You then need a 5 finger bubble down to the last 1.5 finger bubble and
bring the last 5 finger bubble back to the two pinch twists.

Discard the rest of the 160.

The puff of air that is in the 260, tie the end of this balloon around the two pinch twists for the handle
and there you have your shell effect handbag.

There is a more complicated helicopter shown on the DVD but was not made or explained during the lecture.
This is a five balloon possibly line work helicopter.

If making again I would use a clear quick link instead of the white.
I just had the white laying about so went with that.

I did explain a step by step helicopter a while back in the model of the month section.
