Hi all,

I'm a super new twister, so keep that in mind.

I'm trying to create an easy, one balloon hat base to serve as "legs" for my super hero tops.

Here's one I made for Hulk:

It needs that pinch twist on the top so I can hook it in to the body. That's my problem, though... I'm not sure how to measure it so that it ends up in the spot, so instead I've been connecting the hat top to the other side and then experimenting with pinch twists and splits twists on top. But it doesn't really work like that. Here's a Spider-Man I made:

You'll see that doing the twist pulled up the sides of the base and it doesn't really fit snug as a hat anymore. I figure there must be a "best" way to do it so that I'm putting in the pinch twist before connecting it... or maybe there's even a better easy, one balloon hat base to use that I just don't know yet.

Would you guys be able to offer any help?

Hi there.

Does it really need the pinch twist?

Couldn't you still attach the body if you just had 2 bubbles running over the top?

That would look a little nicer also.

Heres a design i do

As you can see, after making a circle around the head, rather than attaching the remaining balloon to the opposite side (180 degrees away) of the balloon, i attach it about 1/5 of the way around the balloon. The keeps the hat more stable and it makes more  of a leg shape. You can them attach you body to the top of the legs.

Thanks for the ideas... I'll try both of these when I get home, later.

If you pre-stretch the balloon to make a little longer, the way you have it at the moment in the first picture the band across the top is too short and this is why it is arching up.
Make it as Majake has in his picture or Google Mark Byrne as he has many designs with the hat base included in the structure,
I think I put pictures up on the Twist & Shout thread that Mark had made in the foyer one night.

You're right Graham, you did post some there. I went digging and found it. Mark's Batman is awesome... I think it's the best Batman balloon sculpture I've seen, actually.

Look on balloon click, the hat section in the silver (free) membership. The hitch hiker hat video has the variation you are looking for. (I think)

So I woke up early this morning, and daydreamed about balloons and the hat base. I thought the lime green pinch twist at the back would actually stay at the front but once made I thought it looked better reversed. When I turned the balloon around I thought it looked a little hulk like.

Very cool Buzz Lightyear, Graham. Those complex designs terrify almost as much as the idea of trying to stuff an inflated scultpure inside of another balloon, lol...

The videos on Balloon Click were definitely what I needed. There's one by Mark Byrne where he does a monkey hat that has the same setup as his Batman in that picture. Very cool. My Spider-Man now seems a little taller and sleeker, but it works :)

Thanks for the help, everyone.

The body is only four balloons and then you could put the male face that Qualatex make inside a clear 5" round, go on have a go, I bet you would surprise yourself.
I think I have posted one like this already, off to have a look, watch out search button here I come.

I got side tracked looking, found a few more flowers to have a ponder over, anyway this thread goes from a simple Buzz to more complex,
so maybe try the first one and then keep adding details as you go along, hope it helps?
