I just booked, not 100% certain if I'm going but I saved a few pennies on the early bird super special.
Only two weeks to go before Danny and I jet off over :)
Its very exciting! :D
Looking forward to seeing you guys!
Thanks,
Michael
I wish it was tomorrow. I am looking forward in meeting some new friends. See ya all there. Safe travels.
Danny called me tonight and we have just booked out seats on the planes, ohhhhhhhhhhh the excitement of it all :) :D
Panic over, I had a filling crack at lunchtime and my dentist has two people working, one has the day off on a Friday and the other was at a funeral today.
I had to call NHS direct to get another dentist who could see me in an emergency to sort the problem out, all sorted. Thank you NHS :D
Flying out on Sunday.
Just off to the airport to meet up with Danny, Twist and Shout here we come!
Safe travels and enjoy!
Have a great time!
I hope that your travels this time are less aggravating than previous times.
I look forward to seeing you soon Graham, although I will have to put up with your "humor"
Yes Shonna, but it means the rest of us get a break
Danny and I have arrived safetly and are in the hotel lobby using the free internet access. The flight was excellent, plenty of leg room, the most I have ever had and only eight seats across rather than the ten so really comfy. Food was very acceptable for an airline so I would definately look at going United Airways again. Already taken a lot of pictures as the Float convention started today. At Charlotte airport they had rocking chairs, I got Danny to take a picture of myself relaxing. Will post with the rest of the pictures sometime soon.
Glad to hear you are starting our your visit to the USA relaxed! I am sure that will make you whole visit much more pleasant
and you much more cheerful!
Dustin, Alayna, Marie and I get in on Tuesday. Alayna is only there for one day to say hello to everyone and then she is heading home for work.
The plane we caught and myself relaxing on the rocker at Charlotte airport.
We are just off for breakfast and this picture I took last night from the float convention, more to come.
A big thank you to Mike the balloon geek from balloonhq as he has just taken Danny and I sown to the shops for supplies and phone card, so Thanks Mike :D
He has a real posh sporty car and a bose sound system, wow what a ride and we went the scenic route.
Forgot to mention, Danny sitting in the back of a little two seater sporty car was funny. :) :D
All these pictures are for an entry way competition being held at the float convention.
Mike has told me to mention there are pictures on balloonhq on the home page, http://www.balloonhq.com (http://www.balloonhq.com)
More pictures from the competition,
They have a few entries as a crazy golf course with actual putters so you can play a round of golf on the balloon course.
Last few for the moment, off to look in the balloon shop now.
Thanks for posting these photos Gram, its like
i was really there!
:D :D
Carrrying on with a few more pictures from this morning's class, Can you guess what is in the cardboard box?
The wall is an excellent idea.
We went to a supermarket this morning and found some balloons for sale.
There have been a lot of comments about the unicyle sculpture. I wonder why?
Early Tuesday morning here, keep waking up early so have come down to the lobby to post a few pictures.
Off for breakfast in a minute,
There looks to be plenty of classes going on at float and I had a good look around the shop yesterday.
First time I have seen 11" rounds for sale all ready to go with hi-float inside.
Jeff Hayes made the peacock? The Bunny keeping the computer warm with balloon chat in the back ground and Ken's new vehicle design.
Michael Crayton made the chopper bike and Ken Stillman the Bike hat.
Last few for the moment, breakfast calling.
Morning Graham,
Don't overdo the breakfast :D , keep the pictures coming, they ae great so far. What about the sculptures ???
your Scottish pal xx
Cool Pictures Graham... I like all the bigs ones in the tent outside too.
A few more pictures from the float convention and the lobby twisting, Twist & Shout master classes start tomorrow and the convention on Thursday.
I think some people may have been drinking?
They have the float gala dinner tonight, I think we may be getting a pizza delivered.
Wed morning and there was a fire alarm alert at the hotel, panic over and on with posting some pictures, Robbie has just gone to get me a coffee.
Danny is getting ready for his masterclass which starts in an hour. These pictures are from the Float Convention large sculpture competition.
Having the coffee and then Brian Asman sits down for a chat, sometimes you get more from the conventions with a little quiet one to one chat.
Donna very kindly picked Michael, Danny and myself up from the hotel and took us shopping, we all ended up with something, I bought a jumper and got some odd looks when back at the hotel when I was telling everyone I had bought the jumper, in America a jumper is a womans dress. No wonder they were looking funny at me :D
Having some fun with the float signs,
These pictures are from the float workshops,
More from the workshops,
Still workshops,
Last ones from the workshops, Mark Byrne made the Batman hat.
From the lobby jam,
Eric Stillman made the monkey hat that is a trade mark for Mark Byrne and explained this is the new design they are showing on balloon click, it was funny.
I was thinking of entering the bike in the three minute competition, if I can make it in three minutes that is.
Robbie had a group build for the plane from 321's,the spirit of St Louis.
Last ones for the moment, off to take some more pictures.
It all sounds great Graham, I look forward to a picture of you and your jumper.
I am glad you found a use for Robbie, I hope your coffee was warm enough.
keep up the good work Graham
Colin
Loving the pictures. Thanks for taking the time to keep us all updated on the fun your having
Danny setting off to his master class.
Robbie has now gone to get me some Pizza Colin so he is working well :D
I think there may have been a cowboy or western theme going on?
Last couple for the moment, this is Rose who has been helping out the float team during the convention.
Just come from the fashion and costume show, was hoping to post a few picture but the old computer and internet connections are playing up. I had some work done on the laptop before I left to make it quicker. It is now so slow its unbelievable, never mind, such is life. Will try again in the morning as I took over 400 pictures today,
off to get my pajama's on for the opening night pajama party.
Thanks for posting up so many pictures, it looks amazing over there.
A few pictures from yesterday, this was the last day of float and the evening was the fashion and costume show, the start of twist and shout.
I thought these were very interesting, not sure who taught them.
There was a good selection to look at,
This is Daniel, Fudd on the forum.
These were made in the mini jam room yesterday afternoon, Wed.
I'm loving all these Graham! Thanks for posting. Have fun!
I'm in shock and made need therapy, I was on my way down from my hotel room and Robbie was just coming back from the swimming pool in his shorts,
I commented about that was a vision to see, then he said you may prefer this one and then he mooned me :o :D
It has been a bit of a challenge with the internet connection this morning, hoping we have it sorted now so I can post a few pictures before the 9am class.
I went to see Scott Tripp with his how to design a balloon show class yesterday.
I think the description and what was shown varied but there were a few little pieces to pick up and make note of.
I will have to admit defeat with the computer this morning, I think I need to get a new laptop when away, it's old and seen better days.
For some reason just taking so long, I will try to log in while sitting at the back of one of the classes this morning.
Sitting in the back of Ken Stillman's class on "Just for Girls" I have connected to the business centre internet here so hoping it is a little quicker.
The above pictures are from the trade stands that were set up at the float convention.
I went to see Alberto Nava with his head band class, he showed an excellent technique where he put a floral wire inside a 260 and made 2 finger bubble/apple twists on the 260. When I find the pictures in a few days/weeks/months and post hopefully it will be a little clearer, hopefully.
Another class I went to yesterday was Buster Balloon and his scary monster class.
I entered the three and twelve minute competition last night, first time I have competed in I think about 5 years.
The late night lecture I attended was by Jeff Hayes, this has to go down as the funniest class I have ever attended, it was over an hour of just stand up comedy while he made a couple of models. Totally after the water shed comedy and not PC but very very funny, the whole room was rocking. :) :D :D
Pictures are fab.. keep saying one day one day....
You spoke about pre hi floated 11" earlier in your posting Sempertex via oaktree sell them here.. been at spring fair last 2 years..... Never used them, but seen them on the stand
Pam
xx
The hi float balloons were only a $1 though for the packet, a bargain.
I went to 4 classes today, Robbie Furman, Ken Stillman, Buster Balloon and Alberta Nava.
Ken did a Princess hands on, it was good but I felt he could have had a few variations or other models to view during the class.
Buster had a new car base to show with a few variations.
Alberto showed some distortion techniques which have been around a while but was well received from those that it was new too.
Robbie showed some solid designs with Elmo, Sponge Bob, Kenny and Tigger. It was fast and furious.
Last picture at the moment, I am two days behind and have around 800 pictures to go through so the majority will not be posted till I get home next week.
So much ideas , artistic work , new models ... that fill my mind with joy . Thanks for sharing ( for those who can't participate to the event ) .
Oscar.
More problems trying to log on this morning from the lobby, in the jam room at the moment and connected to the business centre wi-fi.
More pictures, I thought these signs were a fun idea,
From the first night pajama party, we are now coming up to the last night awards banquet so you can see I have hundreds of pictures to go through and to post onto the forum, I reckon it will take a couple of weeks to do when I get home next week.
Tony all dressed up for the pajama party, I think this may not have been his idea to do?????
Another variation on the heart I was practising for the 12 minute competition.
Practising the bike for the 3 minute competition.
Last few for the moment,
I was given a present this afternoon from David who I went out with for a meal at the pizza/burger bar that Donna took us to on Thursday night.
It is an emergency balloon holder, I will post pictures when I get them on the computer, it was a nice gesture and I was touched.
There are some lovely balloon people in the world :D :D
Tony and Natalie won the group pajama prize,
Mark Byrne won a prize as Santa, not sure what prize it was though, Robbie Suzanne and there group won best entrance of the night.
The Dog I made from Antonio's pinch line technique, Sam from the balloon blast video show won best one'sy.
The last one for tonight as I have to get ready for the gala show dinner. This was Scott's how to make a balloon show class.
WOW!
So I've been to my first Twist & Shout and taught two Masterclasses, two different classes (twice). Also I performed in both the Stage Show competition as a guest, and at the Award ceremony on the final evening.
I even managed to take a class - Alberto Nava's Headands 2.0 - well worth it . I did pop in and out of a couple of classes but was preparing for my own classes or just hanging out in the shop or jam area.
I can highly recommend coming to these big international conventions. The buzz and excitiment of like-minded people gathering from all over the world is phenomenal. Top tips are are both in the classes and in the jam rooms too. Deals can be found in the shop rooms.
Its just fabulous and inspiring.
Start saving now for T&S 2014 in Rochester, New York state (nowhere near New York city - a 6 hour drive!).
I'll write more when my eyes are slamming shut!
The gala show evening was fun, food just about average but nice company and I learnt an excellent new technique in the jam room after the meal.
These were from Buster balloon halloween class,
More from Buster,
Off to re-size some more pictures, I went to both of Alberto's class's and they were both very interesting,
These are from Alberto's hair band class,
More from Alberto's,
Even more, the second picture was a great technique that was one of my three wow moments at Twist and Shout.
We made the cow head band hands on and then Alberto showed so many variations,
Sitting in the lobby with Rose, Brian (I've lost weight) Asman and Katie Balloons from the show, The Unpoppables.
I know it was said before Graham, but thanks to you it actually feels like I was there. Thank you for your hard work, taking all the pictures, re-sizing them, and then posting them for us all.
I did not realise how many models Alberto showed during the class.
Carrying on in the jam room,
Don and his halloween class,
We went out for the non balloon dinner tonight, it was not as manic as last year but the restaurant was in my opinoin very poor, I had a pizza, the wosrt ever,
so bad I refused to pay for it but the company was good so hey ho, some you win some you lose. Last pictures for tonight as I need some shut eye.
We are off to a magic shop this morning and then a little sight seeing in St Louis, we went to the famous St Louis arch yesterday afternoon, what a great view 630ft up in the air. The little pod to get you to the top was very small and cosy with five people in. Will post pictures eventually when we get home later in the week, still a few people about in the hotel but all the balloons have gone and it does not look the same. It must be like a tornado coming through the hotel when the twister convention comes to town, great fun and good memories.
We went out for a meal which was very nice with great company, we were a little rushed on time as there was a traffic accident which delayed us by 20 mins but we wanted
to be back for the 3/12 minute sculpture competitions which were meant to start at 7.30 but started way past 8.00.
The food was nice, will try to find the name of the restaurant to give it a plug.
David in this picture, later in the week was the one who gave me a lovely little balloon present that I will cherrish and have fond memories of.
It was a balloon emergency kit, will post a picture sometime soon of it.
Donna who is a local was the nice lady, very nice lady that picked us up from here and there and was our very own taxi service.
Thanks Donna and if you ever want to come and visit London you are welcome to stay with us and be added to the famous people who have showered at our house list ;) :)
Everyone getting ready for the 3 minute competition,
And the 12 minute competition, there were so many I did not have a table to work from at the start, as in the post above I am hiding behind.
I think Batman came second but will need to check with notes from the gala banquet night.
Making sure the Heart layed flat, I was pleased with the look and changed the middle section design yet again.
I was pleased that Tony Twist got third with his car design, he was well chuffed as well. Congratulations Tony, keep smiling.
My bike looked like road kill as when they blow the whistle you have to let go and stop, I needed 10 secs to straighten it up and make it stand up.
Still my own fault as I never once timed how long it would take me to make. Some are so speedy quick, unlike myself but it was fun and I enjoyed taking part.
I loved the lawn mower, what a really fun piece.
The Elephant won the 3 minute competition,
We went out sightseeing yesterday, in the morning we went to Ickle Pickle magic studio ans spent a lovely hour there looking at all the magic, it was like an alladin's cave.
Then Donna took us to I think it was called maine street which is the tourist spot to visit, lovely oldy woldy shops which all looked like houses'
We then had what was probably the best meal on our trip to date at Maggies, the speciality was baked potato soup. WOW it was stunning.
Then we all got the metro link downtown from the airport for a walk around the city and then went to a really nice restaurant for an evening meal with Danny, Nicole and Denzel. It was a fun day with lovely company,
Last few pictures as we have to go and pack, have to be out the room in 90 mins, our flight goes at 4.15pm for the long flight home.
Come on folks !! Show some love.
Graham was a picture taking beast this last week and more!! One of the best things for me was spending the first part of Monday looking at magic, eating food, and exploring St. Charles with Graham, Danny, and Donna Wiles such a great time!! Thank you all!!
(//http://i.imgur.com/uo9dHqx.jpg) (//http://imgur.com/JOYBQqt)
Thanks so much Grahame for all the photos and updates. It looks fab. Maybe one day...
How did you do in the competitions?
Considering my chances of ever making it to twist and shout is just under 1%, this is the next best thing!
Thanks graham for all the pics
Danny and I got home safe and sound yesterday, now comes the problem of trying to catch up with work while we have been away for 10 days.
Will start to put some of the 2000 pictures that I took onto the forum over the next few hours/days or even weeks.
My memory card had just 165mb of free space left, that was lucky.
Yes home safe and sound and slept SO well.
I found a link to a local St Louis news item about Twist & Shout 213.
//http://www.stltoday.com/news/multimedia/video-twist-shout-balloon-convention/html_666e9f5b-1bb3-59af-868d-85c22a06b4a8.html
Some more pictures from Twist & Shout, these are all taken at odd angles as they are from the 3/12 minute competition and you are not allowed to touch them.
So we have to take pictures with the models laying all hickledy pickledy,
These are from the 12 min competition,
All these pictures just make me crazy excited! I'm going next year, just watch me! Thanks for posting these Graham!!
They keep on coming, I am only up to re-sizing picture 700 and I have another 1300 to look through.
These are from the broken pump competition, you have to make the model from just one type and colour of balloon.
The first picture was the winner, I do have the name in my notes somewhere so will post later.
The first two pictures are from the broken pump competition,
The third picture is Fudd, (Daniel) on the forum. I wont say too much about him incase I make him blush, but he is a lovely guy who I have plenty of time for.
Last ones for the moment, off to look through and to do some more re-sizing.
Graham (also Danny) thanks for the nice pictures and the time you spend to post it
I'm blushing anyway!! I can not wait to make some more art and have some more fun!!!
Keep them Pictures coming I love em!!! (Have any while I am dressed up lol I never got one of myself looking spiffy!)
This is Jeff Hayes and his 11pm class that will probably go down in balloon folk lore history.
He had some excellent balloon models to share but also did an hour stand up comedy routine, it was certainly not PC or for young children but it was very very funny.
You had to be there and one for the memory banks.
Ingenious way to carry the wine around,
Victor made the smurf braclets and Mark Byrne made Mr "T"
Fudd made Mickey and The Fly
One of the large sculpture competition pieces being made, Ken stillman probably had the most packed class of the week for his Girl class.
Models found around the jam room and Eric Stillman playing away,
The large sculpture coming on, Buster Balloon Car Design Class, Buster went through one design fully and then showed a few variations,
A few of the car designs,
Shonna rolling around with Suzanne, best not to ask why :) :D
Shonna had a dealer stand to promote her bear head design DVD's and sculptures, she also picked up an award at the gala banquet.
These were a couple of the medium sculpture entries being made in the jam room, it is not practical for the larger sculptures to be made in the jam room but it would be nice for a room
to be put aside so that those attending the convention could go and see the sculptures progressing as normally what happens is they are made in hotel bedrooms and we only see them when completed. I appreciate this would be difficult as a large area would have to be set aside for 2/3 days for viewing and construction.
I am just about half way, I have gone through to 950 and I have not quite 2000 pictures of the convention, I'm guessing this will take a while to put everything up.
Newspaper report on twist and shout, http://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/a ... like%22%7D (http://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/arts-and-theatre/no-dog-balloons-here-it-s-the-art-of-folding/article_0fcb7807-5473-5e02-8ad9-b6c5157ebdd5.html?fb_action_ids=4844170340173&fb_action_types=og.recommends&fb_ref=.URkTZKfmSzg.like&fb_source=other_multiline&action_object_map=%7B%224844170340173%22%3A488957927807392%7D&action_type_map=%7B%224844170340173%22%3A%22og.recommends%22%7D&action_ref_map=%7B%224844170340173%22%3A%22.URkTZKfmSzg.like%22%7D)
Daniel (Fudd) working on his sculpture entry,
Alberto Nava and his second class on stuffing/shapes.
More from Alberto,
There was certainly plenty to keep you interested in this class,
The playing card design is from Alberto's class.
More balloons around the jam room, the Doctor Who sculpture was attached to your back for effect, I think I took a picture of it on someone.
Hoping to post later when/if I find it.
Hey Graham - thanks for all the great memories you've helped to preserve here and thankyou for the kind words. I was also pleased that you managed to get a photo of the Kangaroo as I forgot to take one myself.
Jeff shall I send you the original? It will be better quality if you would like to use it?
And you provided plenty of memories with your one hour stand up comedy with the odd balloon one man show, so thanks.
The skull is from the jam room and I believe Aaron Hay made, the other figures are from Robbie Furman's class.
More from Robbie's class.
The ones on the chair are my efforts,
Around the jam room, this is Faith who was making a really nice weave. You will see this better when I put the pictures up from her stage competition.
More from the jam room,
These are from the Betallic (Sempertex) sponsored jam night.
I believe the same night,
There were a few different Batman designs around the jam room and in the competition pieces,
The Gorilla was in the jam room, I only have this slightly fuzzy picture but really liked the design. The start of the large sculpture competition pieces,
I liked the Cactus, the bottles and accessories could have been made from latex as well to help the overall look of the piece but the simplicity took my eye.
Wow, so many really cool pics! I keep meaning to go to one of the big balloon conventions - looks like SO much more fun, interactive, and creative, than magic conventions (which bore me to death!).
Thanks so much, Graham, for posting all these amazing pictures.
More from the large competition,
I loved the way the face was on this sculpture (picture 3), so much I took the extra class on Sunday to see how it was constructed. It was an hour well spent.
The Harp, WOW. It moved me.
This was Dustin's entry,
The winner of the large sculpture was made by Mark Verge. The start of the stage show, my camera is not so great on pictures here. The first act was quirky and enjoyable.
Its like I am re-living the event!! Thank you for the Pictures!!!
Matt Falloon
Andrea Noel
Katie Balloons
Faith Marie, off to see if I can find my twist and shout programme as I'm sure I wrote the name of the acts in there.
Found it, the first picture is Barry Rice, Death Defying Balloon Trick
Then we have The Line Ender with Clarke and January. Michael Floyd did a very nice Gangham Style dance at the end of this act.
And Faith with her Love Heart
Robbie was in serious mode for Faith's act. And then there was Danny from the forum, can you spot him?
The start of the medium sculpture emtries, I really liked the Heart from the show.
Last few for tonight,
Amazing photos! Loved Animal drumming
A few from the Medium Sculpture competition,
The Dog was also entered in the Float large sculpture competition, I thought it was very nice.
I believe the Bear was the actual winner, will check with my notes from the gala night.
The detail on the Bear was good as if you went back you would spot something else as well, close up of the lamp post.
Still plenty more pictures to go through from the event and to post,
is that fine sand use dot create the texture?
Quote from: "Pam Pearce"is that fine sand use dot create the texture?
I was not sure how it was done, it did look and feel very authentic though.
More from the medium sculpture competition,
The first picture I thought the composition was great and the look on the stones was brill, all the details for the base do not show up on the picture, I think you had to be there to get the full effect on this design. I think the face is excellent as well in picture three..
The full effect with the face design,
The Guinea Pig was a stand out design in the small sculpture competition, I think I have a better picture of this later.
The last few for a while now as I'm off to Blackpool tonight for the magic convention this weekend.
Thanks so much for posting these Graham! Fantastic for those who couldn't make it!
Lisa
Bumpitty Bump!!
Just to keep it fresh while Graham is out with his magical buddies... haha Hope your having fun and can not wait till we see some more pictures!!
I'm back from Blackpool so here we go again with some more pictures from Twist and Shout 2013.
Still pictures from the small sculpture competition.
I believe the Squirrel came second.
Still plenty more to post from the event.
Michael Floyd made the Juke Box.
Graham- Thank you for posting all the pics. It was really great to meet you at Twist & Shout this year. Looking forward to the rest of the photos.
Thanks Dennis, here come some more.
From the un-inflated section.
Not sure how the bike got into this section.
Zanie Janie won the non-inflated I believe, at the end when I check my notes I will add all the winners.
I think the first picture here is the winning sculpture.
I love the look of the heart.
The jam room on a betallatex night,
Danny relaxing and Sam.
The jam room,
Marie making one of a few dresses over the convention,
Danny and Scott working the camera angles out, I wonder what for?
I liked the design of the Gorilla and Michael Crayton's bike.
A nice simple Dog design and there were people inside the ball rolling around the hotel.
Jeff Hayes and lecture two, the jokes were more suited to the day time lecture and Jeff showed plenty of models, well worth sitting in on.
Patty also sent his PDF file with all the models fully explained so this was a nice bonus and must have taken Jeff a little while to produce.
I have put this picture on it's own as about 10 seconds after I took it I got a rather vivid shock that will stay with me for ever and I may need some therapy to get over it. :) :D
This is Robbie coming back from his early morning swim.
My version of Jeff's model,
Another variation on a theme, this is the 160 adaptor for the filbert and Shonna re-stocking.
Details about winning a Qualatex Scholarship and we (balloonchat) will be offering a free registration to Twist and Shout for next year.
Details will be announced soon.
The guy in the last picture we met on the last day when we went off sightseeing in town with Denzal, Danny, Myself and Nicole. So on the way back the tram dropped us at the airport and he was bedding down for the night in the airport and did not have a room, so this is how nice twisters are, Denzal who did not know him had a spare bed in his room so at least he could keep warm and get a bath. I thought it was a very nice gesture.
An interesting set up, a lot of empty space but a good starting point.
Two lovely people, Willie Monroe and Debbie Stevens, to catch Willie smiling I must have caught him off guard ;) Elvis is in the building :)
And some people lack so much sleep they nod off in the jam room :D
Then they wake up, not sure if Patricia is telling me something there? The start of Scott Tripp's class "Turbo Charge Your Balloon Bag"
Looking good!!
The guy Denzel offered his bed too is Mack Creel (sp? on the last name) A wonderful guy who is traveling around. He is currently having adventures in Korea!!
Scott collects all things balloon related, his class was a little chaotic and was for the more enthusiastic balloon historian but I enjoyed seeing the old boxes, moulds and balloons he had collected from around the world. The Swans beak was dipped in black liquid latex to get the look of the swan from just one balloon. The look could be achieved with just slipping the
end of a black balloon over the main 260 balloon but then you would not have the fun of making your very own dipped latex balloons.
In the last picture Scott was showing how to do the colour changing agate which would work well in a show or magic principle.
Scott had certainly aquired some unusual balloons over the years.
He put a few pom pom balls into the clear Heart, a mould I think from the ashling balloon company and Scott making his own latex dipped balloons.
Balloons from around the jam room and hall ways,
The start of Debbie Steven's class on hair.
This was an interesting idea,
Not sure how Hello Kitty got in here?
Last few for the moment, still plenty more to follow.
Really enjoyed the pics.
Debbie had made a few different styles etc for a fashion show that I believe took place in Canada.
Debbie Stevens does amazing work. I love her hair!
That dress pink dress by Marie was so adorable. Nicole looked awesome in it. Graham, did you get a picture of that?
Thanks for sharing all the photos!
Some of the table decoration for the gala night.
I think Bettalatex organised this, each person made one design with a little guidance.
Quite a selection of styles.
Love seeing these photos as I have said before..
Rose posted this on her facebook feed.
Nice video gives a nice look on what was going on. Though they did pick a pretty mellow time to film the jam room!!
http://www.hectv.org/programs/series/it ... tballoons/ (http://www.hectv.org/programs/series/its-a-st-louis-thing/2000/999999999999999-luftballoons/)
That is a nice little film about Twist & Shout.
I thought this was very funny, still makes me chuckle all these weeks on from the event.
So many nice memories,
I wanted to give this picture a post by itself as David presented me with the balloon dog box, it's to hold an emergency supply of balloons when you are heading off out.
I met David when Donna took us out for a meal one night with about 10 other people. We had two tables, Fudd, Moonshine, Michael, Donna, David and I were on one table with Pat, Patricca, Jilly and ? I may need to look at my pictures to see who else was with us. It was a lovely meal, nice company and good to get out of the hotel for a couple of hours. Anyway David gave me the present and as I said in a previous post I was touched by his kindness, it was appreciated and I have nice memories from the evening and the event overall.
Thank you David. I took the picture the next day in the hall lobby outside the jam room.
So much amazing stuff was made around the hotel,
More from the jam room,
I'm getting there slowly, just another 300 odd pictures to go through from the event.
The dogs looked really nice on the dress.
Victor Moonshine and Vicky Kimble at the gala awards night,
More of the centre pieces made by the delegates,
Still more,
Even more,
Goodness there were a lot of tables,
Still more from the gala night table decorations,
So many!
This is Tony and I think before he was presented with his award. Shame Tony does not come on the forum anymore, sometimes life and things get in the way.
It was good to catch up with him at Twist & Shout though.
Pictures from the gala night,
We all decided to take pictures of each other around the table, seemed a good idea at the time. Sometimes a picture tells a thousand words.
Still taking the pictures of each other around the table and then I thought we may get one of myself.
Someone took a good picture of the table on their phone so I took a picture of the picture on their phone, oh the fun we had!!
Going onto the awards ceremony, Victor getting ready to present the broken balloon pump award.
Shonna won 1st place in the Betallatex competition and also won a prize for all her hard work promoting the bear head balloon.
I'm sure there was a special name for the award and Shonna will come on and put me right as she like to do that, he he :) :D
Shonna receiving her award from Jan Iiams, Vicky Kimble also picked up a Betallatex prize which I noted but not what the prize was for...oops
Jason and Victor just about to present the Broken Pump Award. The pictures are not too good as I was sittting near the back of the room and with only my small canon G12.
I have emailed Patty to see if I can get a list of all the awards and winners so that we can credit properly.
Thx for the coverage Graham. Your pictures are way better then presented on BalloonHQ.
I have been waiting to get the winners of all the competitions with correct spelling, so as not to hold things up I will skip the awards night now and come back to it at the end.
So moving on,
An award I do rememebr who won, Robbie picked up "The Gristy" which is the David Grist Memorial Award and it may be that the winner of this will be making a guest
appearance at Birmingham in June for the UK's David Grist Memorial Lecture. Watch this space.
We went into the meal with no snow, came out 3 hours later and St Louis was covered, the Australians had never seen snow before and did they go mad....................................
YES they did, but I never got any pictures.
I took Jason's class on the face technique,
it was excellent and now from just pictures I am hoping to re-create it sometime soon. I did take about 30 pictures step by step but it was a while ago now.
If you look back at Jason's original face it is stunning, this is my poor version as he explained it.
Doctor Who was a fun item to wear.
After Jason's class I went and took a class on naughty balloons, I will post the pictures but in the members only section. I will put a link up when they are online.
The members area is password controlled so not everyone can view, please get in touch if you would like to view the members only area.
The first picture is the only one I am happy to share on the open section of the forum.
We then went sightseeing, I think this was on the Sunday afternoon.
Looking up the side of the arch, not sure if you can see the windows right at the top on the first picture?
Denzal is funny and a lovely guy, he wore his ski mask all day as the sun was fairly strong, trouble is he looked....... shall we say a little shifty?
But it was a fun time, nice friends, great company and a good laugh, the last picture is inside the arch on ground level they have a musuem.
The pictures are up in the members only area, if you would like to join this section of the forum you have to have a minimum of 50 posts, written up the section on how you started balloon modelling and done the Interview a balloon chat member. I am happy for you to view as long as you have your name advertised to do the interview at a later date.
To view the pictures from the adult class, post52683.html#p52683 (http://balloonchat.co.uk/post52683.html#p52683)
Graham said he had no pictures of the Australians frolicking in the snow so I'm happy to add a couple of mine. Donna must've been freezing on that dress...
And also the original picture of our table in the gala dinner that was posted earlier as 'a picture of a picture'.
2013-02-03 16.13.24.jpg[/attachment:wdrvd4q5]2013-02-02 18.24.13.jpg[/attachment:wdrvd4q5]A couple more pictures from Twist and Shout. That's how Denzil looked with the ski mask... Trying to think if he'd tried to flag a taxi like that.
Also the recipient of the David Grist award with his favourite Debbie Stevens hairdo.
Finally, the last picture is from Trier, Germany, where I went after Twist and Shout with Steven 'Tiny' Atkeson to do a little balloon-busking. This gentleman works as an Elvis impersonator so he asked me to do a quick version of Elvis Presley. As you can see by the picture it was really hard work working in freezing conditions just trying to keep warm. You can see it's snowing.
Pictures from the museum,
Going to the top of the arch in a little squashed five seater pod,
The inside of the pod and when you get to the top, incase you are unsure where you are they like to tell you,
All that I have re-sized at the moment, just off to lecture at the home counties magical club tonight. Will try to do some more tomorrow.
The view from the top.

Some pictures of our sight seeing adventure continue,
The Arch was a long way up but had some stunning views over the City.
Walking to the centre at the top of the Arch. I think Suzanne asked if they had ever had a stripper at the top before,
all waiting to go down in our own little pods. We were the last of the day.
A typical American theme, the smoke rising. The non latex dinner, probably the worst pizza I have ever eaten but the company was nice.
Robbie back at the hotel. The final sightseeing day with Donna, Danny and Fudd, fond memories, it was a great day.
Thanks for posting these - some great memories. i really liked the messages only viewable from the top of the Arch!
I've never seen Graham so disgusted with his food and I have to admit the pizza's at the place were horrid. :x
WOW, I have always wondered what it is like inside the Gateway Arch, amazing :D
Donna was kind enough to take us to the magic shop in the morning and then to somewhere downtown, forgot name at moment, hoping Danny will step in and say.
The shops were all so different with some lovely things to buy, it was a nice couple of hours and then there was lunch.
We had a great time and found this amazing little café for lunch, well did not find it Donna goes there all the time as she is a local.
Maybe one of the best meals of the 10 days away, it was excellent.
Will check my paperwork as I'm sure I picked up the card for the venue as I wanted to give them a plug.
Not sure what Danny was doing, maybe throwing away his local pocket guide?
Downtown was very picturesque, the picture in the window was made from crayons, you will see better with another picture that is coming up soon.
You can see the reflection of Donna in the window as well.
A better photo of the crayons being used to make the picture, lucky I took a picture of the name where we went, Downtown, St Charles.
There was a local balloon company near to Twist and Shout and they knew the convention was on but did not go to either the twisting or Float the decorating convention. :o :(
I loved the shirt but it was in the most expensive shop in Downtown so I just took a picture instead. A great bike, ideal to make from balloons.
They also had an English shop but as we were looking on the Monday half the shops were closed so we could only look through the window.
The playboy magazine was in the toilet of the lovely restaurant that Donna took us to for lunch.
In the above list of awards I forgot to add the broken pump award which went to Dustin Reudelhuber, I have edited the post now to include all the winners.
This was the Monday night after the trip to the magic shop and the trip to the shops and lunch downtown with Donna. We got the tram from the airport into town.
Steam rose out from the floor in front of the colour changing blocks.
In the last picture on our adventure around town we met this lady who is a tourist guide and all she does is walk around town answering questions, well Denzel got us lost and we were not sure where to eat, this lady told us a nice place and even gave us her mobile number in case we got lost again and could not find it. I/we thought this was great and she was a good laugh so we had our picture taken with her.
The second picture is the FREE bus to the lady Gaga concert that was I think a $1, yes the sign says free bus to lady gaga concert just $1.
Not sure how that works but in the UK when it's free normally it is free, must be an American thing ;) :)
My pudding which was wonderful, in fact the whole meal was excellent, with lunch and company and dinner and company it was an excellent way to spend our last day.
You can see how close we were to the St Louis Arch when we had our meal, the artwork in the restaurant was fun as well.
Company for the afternoon and night, Danny, Denzel and Nicole.
The tram ride home with a funny sign, not sure how they would know if anyone was hiding a concealed weapon?
The hotel where we stayed and the convention took place.
And the view looking out from the hotel,
While waiting to go to the airport I asked Nicole if she would like to see the one balloon Hippo, not too enthusiastically she agreed. I think she was pleasantly surprised as at the airport it was still in with her balloons. Either that or she was too embarrassed to throw it away :)
The Teddies were made from one 160, Nicole's one balloon Kangaroo.
Variation on the one balloon Teddy and Nicole's one balloon Koala and Dino.
I think this was Nicole's Dog? We then went onto Bunnies.
It was a joint effort from Danny, Nicole and myself, we called him Louis after the place he was born.
Two slight variations, I must try this one again as I was pleased with the Two balloon outcome.
Danny getting a bite to eat before the great flight meal.
Not too many more pictures to go, nearly at the end and it's only taken 2 months to add them all to the forum.
Saying goodbye at the airport to Nicole, a nice lady, we enjoyed sight seeing and twisting together. Just in case I better say twisting balloons :)
Maybe this is appropriate as in all the times we have visited America I have not had a McDonalds so at the airport at out stop over waiting for the next flight there just happened to be one right by our gate number. The milkshake is nothing like you get in the UK. It was scrummy and probably 30,000 calories as well but it was delicious, so if in America then maybe try the milk shake.
I just have all the winners from the gala banquet night to load up and then we are done, maybe another 50 pictures.

What does a milk shake taste like in the UK? I think a McDonald's milk shake is fairly representative of a US milk shake, though a real milk shake from a real ice cream shop is better. If you want to make one yourself (assuming milk and ice cream are the same across the pond), it's easy: just put ice cream in a blender, add milk, and blend. You want it just liquidy enough to drink through a straw. A little looser is okay, but it should still be thick enough to eat off a spoon if you so choose.
The milkshake in America was so much better, maybe they use some real cream as well in the mix.
So trying to match up pictures with awards,
1, Shonna won the Betallic on line award for promoting the bear heads
2, Vicky Kimble won the Betallic award maybe for services to the balloon community. Perhaps I should email Vicky to find out?
3, Broken pump to Dustin Reudelhuber
This was Robbie Furman's take on the song 12 days of Christmas to 12 days of balloons, it was very funny and the whole room enjoyed it.
Still the 12 days of balloons,
Not sure how this one balloon dog got into this section so in case I have not posted it before here it is, I think Ken Stillman made the original design.
There was a little confusion over the 3 minute competition as the wrong names went up for those making the models, the car was made by Tony Twist
and came third although on the screen it did say it was made by Denzel. Emailing Larry a few times we think we have it all correct now.
Thanks for continuing to post so many photos. Great memories.
And from memory that last photo of the race car was Tony Twist's not Denzel's. :)
Quote from: "Danny the Idiot"And from memory that last photo of the race car was Tony Twist's not Denzel's. :)
Lucky I mentioned it then in the post before ;) :D But yes some nice memories.
sorry, I didn't read the post just looked at the pictures! :D :o
Tony with his award :D Tyler Sterling was second and I did not get a picture, oops and then we have Jack Mattson picking up his first place award for his Elephant
The models were taken as they were laying on the table, you are not allowed to touch them so you do not get any great pictures.
I have sent an email to Patty and Royal suggesting how I think this evening should run so that the models are displayed nicer for those entering and then we could also get better pictures.
3 minute competition,
1st Jack Mattson, Elephant
2nd Tyler Sterling, Rhino
3rd Tony Twist, Car
The winners of the 3 minute competition.
Tony, Tyler and Jack.
The winners of the balloon costume competition,
Judy, Walter and Dustin
I have just spent the past 15/20 mins looking for the pictures of the fashion show and costume show on this thread as I wanted to post a picture of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. I may have somehow forgotten to post these, I think they were on my lap top to be done and then I came home I started to download from my computer and they got missed out, fed up looking at the moment so will go through all 32 pages to double check and then if not I have another evening of pictures from Twist & Shout to sort out and post.
I have solved the mystery, somehow between my laptop and home computer I missed out 140 pictures, so I need to go through them all and to resize some,
they are from the balloon costume and balloon fashion show evening
The balloon costume winners were,
Balloon costume
Picture 1, 1, Dustin Queary, Gone Native
Picture 2, 2, Walter Crum, HMS Twisted
Picture 3, 3, Judy Johnson, Fly Away
The balloon fashion competition winners were,
Fashion dress
Picture 1, 1, Marie Dadow, La Pampion
Picture 2, 2, Donna Egan, Aussie Elegance
Picture 3, 3, Rebecca Kanar, Heart Of Gold
Fashion peoples choice, Marie Dadow
The 12 min competition winners,
Picture 1, 1, David Brenion, Elvis
Picture 2, 2, Kurt Beckley, Neverland Pirates
Picture 3, 3, Dominic Hunter, Batman
Due to us not being allowed to touch the competition entries once the whistle is blown these pictures are all taken with them laying on tables, the second place Neverland Pirates also had another part of the sculpture over the back of the table that I did not get a picture off.
Stage
Peoples choice, Willie Monroe
1, Willie Monroe

Unfortunately all the pictures I took were very dark and not usable to post on the forum.

Somehow I missed out the Fashion show and Costume design evening pictures, so here they are,
Pat finding a spare minute to try a new design and Tony seems to be smiling ;) The handbag was part of the show,
It was a packed evening with standing room only. The pre-show entertainment, hoping someone will tell us who it was?
On the catwalk,
Todd and Tawney compered the show and kept it running along nicely, the handbag from a previous post.
More from the fashion show,
Still more from the fashion show,
More from the catwalk, I wonder how it got it's name? I could Google it but thought I'd see if anyone did know.
I liked the Black dress, I thought there was a lot going on with it once you looked up close.
Still a few more fashion dresses to go.
Quote from: "Graham Lee"It was a packed evening with standing room only. The pre-show entertainment, hoping someone will tell us who it was?
Nathan Brown was the gentleman that was doing the pre show juggling!!
Still a few more from the fashion show, thanks for the name check Daniel.
And more,
The boat was a fun costume, made me smile and even LOL :D
Just a few more to upload and the all the pictures from Twist & Shout are then complete.
We are nearly at the end of the pictures, just a few more to go.
Robbie strutting his stuff,
This is it the last three pictures from Twist & Shout.
Thanks Graham for posting all these photos for us!!! Much appreciated!!
Lisa
