Any tips for how to pop a large number of balloons quickly without sounding like a firing squad? I've tried lemon juice, vinegar - all to no avail....

Try scissors at the thick bits of the balloons. or make a small bubble at the end of a long bit and pop that.

Best place to do the rounds is by the knot as there is less surface tension. However, if you are talking twisted balloons it is hit and miss in my experience! I tend to stick to the same principle and try to stab them near the twists but sometimes no matter what I do I sound like I am giving a 21 gun salute ;)

It's a pure lemon citrus spray, but it does sound like a machine gun when they start exploding.
