Picture Gallery / Occasional Table
November 06, 2014, 02:21:39 PM
Hello everyone,

Today I have made this occasional table, I know its an occasional table because occasionally it IS a table and occasionally its a balloon. It is probably the most useless table I have ever seen because its not strong enough to actually support anything, it only just about supports its own weight so I dread to think what would happen if I put a cup of tea or coffee on it, maybe it would take a balloon cup of helium?.

Picture Gallery / Toothless the Dragon
October 24, 2014, 02:09:01 PM
On December 31st I made a Toothless (the dragon from the 'How to train your dragon' films)
You can see it here - //http://www.mydailyballoon.com/31st-december-toothless-the-dragon/

I was fairly pleased with this design apart from the fact its fairly big and not exactly quick to make. Ever since then I have been inundated with people asking me how I made it, I get at least 1 request a week asking me for a tutorial, I doubt I would ever do a tutorial for this big design so I decided to try and make a mini version and today I think I came up with a do-able design. The head is a bit complicated but not too difficult.

Its made from 6 balloons, actually I used 5 balloons and then 3 bits of scrap for the eyes, tail and tongue. The head is made from 2 black 160s (plus the eyes and tongue) and the body is a black 260 and a black 160 (plus the red bit).

Toothless is a winged dragon but he usually keeps them tucked away while sitting however I will do a winged version too.

What do you think?

Hello all, well here is Balloon challenge number 48 and its a bit different this week as I want to see your hands (not your hands but your balloon hands), Hands have always been a bit of a problem for me especially when the sculptures are on the smaller side, I generally use any of 4 different hands that I make and here I am showing you 2 of them, a simple baby hand and a more complex lifelike hand.

Now I am not expecting you all so make your hands the same as mine but what I do want to see is how you do your hands? do you keep it simple or do you go crazy? It would be great to see all your hands.

While in Halesowen on Tuesday evening we held a bit of an impromptu Worlds Smallest balloon dog competition, it all started when I made an averagely small dog, then someone made smaller and smaller until eventually we were all having a go. A couple of 'normal' people acted as judges (with the help of William) and eventually a winner was chosen, so congratulations go to Ginger Dave (from the Halesowen area) with Amanda in second place, I think I came third but I am not too sure.

(** When I say Worlds smallest balloon dog competition I don't actually know if these are the worlds smallest balloon dogs so for the benefit of this thread when I say Worlds smallest balloon dog competition I actually mean Halesowen's smallest balloon dog competition :D)

I am not long home from the Netherlands where I lectured for the United Twisters last Monday. I had an awesome time at the lecture and in the Netherlands, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Denis and Ingrid Hogers made me feel really welcome and looked after me so many thanks to them

I didn't take many photos at the lecture but hope to borrow some photos from some of the UT members to upload, I will upload some photos of the places I visited too.

I was recently asked to make a sculpture to coincide with the release of a film on DVD and Blu-Ray, The film called 'Stalled' is about a janitor who fights off a hoard of Zombies while he is trapped in a women's toilet.

so this is what I came up with.

Check out the blog post here too - //http://www.mydailyballoon.com/stalled/

Picture Gallery / Nitrogen Atom
February 13, 2014, 11:55:49 AM
I recently had an email from Aiden in the USA who had been given a task by his teacher to make a model of Nitrogen Atom and he was looking for inspiration, he also thought he would challenge me as well. As many of you know I cannot resist a challenge so I immediately put on my thinking cap and fired up my brain cell to come up with this sculpture depicting a Nitrogen Atom.

Do a quick google search and you will see plenty of images of a nitrogen atom however I will explain my sculpture, the orange blobs are Protons of which there are 7, the yellow blobs are Neutrons, again there are 7 of them, the clear balloon surrounding the central cluster is the electron orbit and the 7 small red bubbles within each section of clear balloon represent the electrons.

I made my atom from 7 balloons (which is cool as the real atom is made from 7 of everything too), I used 2 x 350s to make the central cluster, 2 red x 260s to make the electrons and 3 clear 260s to make the electron orbit.

Hello all, well I was very happy to have won the last balloon snap however I didn't realise how difficult it would be to choose the next model for you all to have a go at, I decided to keep it to a 1 balloon model. I hope its not too easy (or hard).

I have chosen this Thomas the tank engine, I came up with it about 10-12 years ago at a train themed event and its very useful if you want to make a quick train rather than a bigger more complicated train. The thing that makes this model look good is the artwork, I would like to see some artwork on your versions however I will mainly be judging on the balloon twisting.

I really look forward to seeing your versions. I will judge next weekend on Sunday or Monday.
