I think yell.com works better than yellow pages but really annoyed as I advertise with some free listings on the web which give me the area that suits me ie: surrounding area but yell.com gives a set area and I'm in a corner so am divided into 3, someone in the middle will get more hits than me yet I pay the same and if I put my web site on I have to pay more because of the amount of hits I get. I will probably come out of yellow pages this time and yell.com next year as I do not get the service I pay for.

Dave would you mind explaining that a little further for me.  Having a blond moment so correct me if I have this wrong but are you saying they divide the areas on line as well as in the book?  I was considering paying to advertise on-line with Yell.com but with the book I am on the border of my area and instead of bordering one other book it's 4  :o  and honestly who in their right mind would pay for ads in that many books?

You have obviously looked into the Yell.com advertising so could you explain how exactly it works and what you actually pay, including all the hidden extras please?

I don't think I can say price but it's about the same as a small box in the pages. as to the boarders yep if you want to be in other areas you have to pay I'm on the boarder of Bath, somerset and Wiltshire, ( I would have to pay more if I put south/west) this is crazy as it's online so they don't have to print it and deliver it apparently the end user wants defined areas so when they search it can be local. what I think would be good is if yell.com used the users postcode and did a miles from there type thing.

Then the info on thier site is really bad.  The way I had read it was that if you are based (for example in Stevenage) and someone wanted a children's entertainer in Stevenage I would appear, likewise if someone put in Hertfordshire I would appear too.

I also understood it that you paid a one off price for your Yell.com listing for the year but didn't realise you had to pay for the web referrals based on how many people used the link???

I think it works out badly for people in our kinds of industry as they list you according to wear you live (as most of don't have offices or business only premises) rather than where you will travel to.

Goodness that does sound complicated.  I think I shall just stick with my free listing on-line and be done with it.  Enough people find my site through google anyway and if people ring up from the Yellow Pages I always ask if they have seen my website and give them my address.
