If you live and work in England you need English DBS, not the Scottish equivalent.

If you are a balloon twister or childrens entertainer you should go to Equity they have £10million cover and are more geared to the entertainer.
BAPIA are excellent if you are more of a decorator/ shop/ stall.

Rob are you left alone with the children? If not then you do not require a CRB.
I expect the agent, cruise line etc feel better that you have one but you only need one if left alone with children.

BAPIA membership includes Public, Products & Employers liability cover as well as Legal insurance cover and you will also receive a 'welcome pack' and I know that those who have received this have been very pleased with. You will also get a listing on the public search facility of the website, if you'd like more information e-mail info@bapiaonline.com :)

No Graham, I have never been left alone with the kids and I would never want to be, it is a requirement of the cruise line that kids entertainers are checked.

Thanks everyone - I must have misread/misunderstood the Equity website application process.

My plan is to volunteer as a parent helper at our local junior school in order to get a CRB/DBS from them so it will cover me for the local school fete come Summer time and/or school discos when I do balloons for them. I should think their PLI would cover me for that too.

I'll probably leave the public stuff for now - and just see how I get on with the school fete and making to order, which I have not done yet and then decide after that. I have only decorated the halloween disco at school so far and will next be doing the Easter disco and doing ready made bunnies for the preschool to sell at their Easter fete. (I'm the preschool committee secretary so have been CRB'd and registered with OFSTED for them already)

Thanks again Hx

Just had a look at equitys website, where it says to attach 'supporting evidence', what kind of thing does this mean? As simple a photo or two, or official documents of some kind?

Supporting evidence for what? Membership? I thought it would have all the info on their site.
