Picture Gallery / Sweet Cups
« on: November 22, 2017, 09:32:15 AM »
I have recently started offering sweet cups.  I got hold of a load of smoothy cups really cheap and I get the mini foils to use for them.  They are sooooo popular!

Picture Gallery / Remembering Daniel McCullough's rabbit

Daniel McCullough did a nice workshop in Manchester some time back and one of the things he did was a lovely, very usable rabbit design.  Graham reminded me of it and it prompted me to merge my rabbit design with his.  I love it.  Thank you again Daniel for such a cool design idea.

Balloon Chit Chat / Where to Start a design
« on: August 31, 2016, 07:45:44 AM »
Yesterday I made a big ballerina.  I ended up with a sculpture i was happy enough with.  My client was happy with it too.
But I was wondering something.
I decided to get started and thought "Right where to start.....the my way up!"
I didn't have any plans how I was going to do this.
So after a couple of rejected attempts of the shoe and leg I decided on the ones in the picture and then worked up from there, deciding not to join the legs but to have a link balloon between them to. So the rest of the sculpture evolved from that decision.  I was wondering what I would have ended up with if I had started from the head.  Everything would have been dictated by my decisions from that point and I would have ended up with a totally different piece.  Sometimes I sit and think about what I want and how I am going to make it and sometimes I just get the balloon out and see what comes out at the end.  Let the balloon guide me I suppose.  Well this isn't going anywhere. It was just a thought about how the start point of your model dictates what you end up with.

I have been asked to show how I did this effect on a stuffed balloon.  It is quite easy.

Was asked to do a baby for the cake table but suggested a baby in the font instead.

Picture Gallery / Flower

After playing with these foil balloons for a column I have some left over and so I used one to make a quick effective flower. It actually look really nice but it looks a little dark in the photo. If I get the chance I will take another picture of it in child's hands and see if I can post it.

Picture Gallery / Not Uplighter

Do you use the Not uplighters from Ikea?
Which bit do you use?
Do you only use the base and the pole?

Double the amount of use you get by taking the cable and the bulb fitting of the top piece.  Turn it upside down and it sits beautifully on a table. It is slim enough not to impose on a table but steady enough to make a great stand.  Useful in itself for low decor or add another pole to it for a taller piece.  Nothing innovative in these pictures, just messing about with the idea.
