Balloon Chit Chat / Balloon games/team building
July 29, 2013, 11:39:05 AM
Hi all, I've been booked to work in a summer school on Thursday and have just had a request from the client to see if it would be possible to do a few games/team building exercises with the kids. They're all age 10/11 and I will have a 45 minute session with a group of 20, then a 2nd session with a different group.

Does anyone have any great games that they know would work with this kind of age group? I think she was thinking along the lines of me showing them how to make something that looks good and maybe splitting them into teams to get each team to recreate it, I suppose a bit like the Generation Game.

I was thinking of maybe spending half an hour showing them a few different flower designs and then seeing which group could make the most/biggest bouquet in the final 15 mins.

or maybe doing something wearable??

Any ideas would be very much welcomed! Thanks, Lisa

It's not me selling it, but it might be a cheaper investment for someone starting out.

Hiya,

Just had a call from someone who runs the local Conservative Club and they've asked for a display model for tomorrow! It's the clubs 120th birthday and they've having decor balloons, plus want a special sculpture creating.

They're not specific on the brief, but just want it to relay that they are a pub/social environment.

I have thought of a model of a bar, with maybe a barmaid behind and someone propping the bar up, but other than that I'm a bit stuck. Any genius ideas out there?

I'm going to have to do it this evening as I'm working all day tomorrow, hence the urgency :)

thanks in advance!

Balloon Tutorial & Help / circus themed balloons
August 17, 2012, 12:11:14 AM
Does anyone have any ideas of quick  linework style circus-themed balloons that would entertain adults?

I have thought of clown head bracelets and that's about as far as I've got :D. I've only just had confirmation of the gig though and it is late so I'll get my thinking cap on tomorrow.

They need to be quick designs though . . .

Thanks, Lisa

I was asked to do a special 50th balloon delivery last week and as the fella was a fellow big Tour De France fan, I took my opportunity to make a Bradley Wiggins for him.

I was asked for a special delivery this week of a Moshi Monster - Poppet in particular.

I don't know Moshi Monsters so had to Google Poppet, and this is what I came up with.

Balloon Chit Chat / You tube videos
January 09, 2012, 04:37:36 PM
Just came across a couple of youtube videos that made me smile.

Don't know if they've been posted before but I couldn't find any reference to them.

The first is a full balloon music video and the 2nd is a 100 year old balloon twister (Ralph Dewey's mum!!) Love them!

Picture Gallery / wheat weave
December 16, 2011, 09:33:48 PM
I was asked to do another Rapunzel design for a birthday girl tomorrow, so thought I'd try the wheat weave for her hair. I've never done it before so it's not as neat as I'd like, but think it works well in this instance!

Tomorrow's birthday girl requested a Minnie Mouse balloon.

Do you think she'll like it???

I did ask her mum if she'd be alright with a 5ft version before I made it!

(Boys on there just for sizing!)

I was asked for an Angry Birds balloon today - did these.

The first one was an 11" round for size impact, the second one I made as a quick, on the job design, along with the pig as part of a game - the kids had loads of fun trying to get the pig by firing the Angry Bird from the catapult!

Picture Gallery / Cocktail glass sculpture
April 29, 2011, 05:45:23 PM
I was given a job by Alison (as she's living it up on a mini-cruise at the moment), to create a 5ft cocktail glass, complete with birthday girl perched inside for a 40th party tonight.

Anyway, I did it and have just got back from a very satisfied client's house. I was a bit stressed about getting it done as it was a challenge for me (I decided to go without a frame Roger and opted for Larry Moss's wall building technique for creating the glass part), but am happy with the result.

I didn't realise it was to go outside though and ended up having to position so I could secure the top part onto the hanging basket holder as it was so windy. I just hope it withstands the night

Picture Gallery / Boop a doop!
April 05, 2011, 08:23:30 PM
The little girl I did a party for on Saturday really wanted a Betty Boop balloon. I'd not done one before so after a bit of googling and adaption, I came up with this:

She was very happy with it and it's one I'm actually quite pleased with.

Balloon Decor / stupid question
April 05, 2011, 04:29:55 PM
Forgive my newbie decor question, but should floating balloon topiaries only be made from 11" latex? I am talking about the ones with 12 latex balloons clusters.

I made one last night having a bit of a play, but only inflated to 9" as the area they are for is on the small side and I wanted two either side of the door. I used ultra hi-float (purple clip as recommended) but within a few hours they were dropping. This was without tulle attached too as that only dragged them down.

I wasn't sure if it was something I'd done or the fact they were 9".

Any tips would be welcomed. There's nowhere to attach from above (so air-filled is out) and I don't want stands to be used.

Confused

Picture Gallery / Cinderella
February 24, 2011, 09:34:37 PM
I was asked for a Cinderella this weekend and having redesigned the model I use for Snow White, I decided to try and do a different design for Cinderella, I found a pic on a site of a design I liked (sorry, can't remember the web address and it's not in my cache to search now), but thank you to whoever gave me the inspiration  :D

Birthday girl was very pleased anyway
