Balloon Chit Chat / New YouTube Channel and Website
December 14, 2013, 05:44:21 AM
I made a post a while ago but must not have had a very enticing title.  Anyway I will keep this brief.  I have a new YouTube Channel, Facebook and website all called The Twisters Cookbook (links below)
The YouTube channel so far is focused on Fast 350 designs and trailers for the tutorials that I am now selling on the website.
Tutorials currently available are
Turkeys (3 sizes)
Yoda Parody (6 minutes design)
Christmas bears
And
Little Saint Nick by Justin Reams
The first three by me are all half off during my 12 days of Christmas Sale. Dec 14-26
There is more to the website than just tutorials, so take a look.  Once I get around to it I will start a picture thread of all YouTube and paid tutorials.
This whole project is a work in progress and I greatly appreciate any constructive criticism.

Balloon Chit Chat / The Twister's Cookbook
November 22, 2013, 11:08:06 PM
For more than four years, I have been wanting to create a website that had a searchable index of balloon designs and digital marketplace that provides twisters with a place to sell their designs, without having to pay the steep cost of producing a DVD or paying hundreds for studio quality cameras and lighting.  The production standards will be lower because the emphasis will on a the quality of instruction and design.  There is a lot more to the site that just what I am mentioning here, you can explore the site when it goes live on Dec 1. http://www.thetwisterscookbook.com

Because of the general flow of life and the absolute truth that things always take longer than I think, the site is about 3 weeks behind.  As such the turkey tutorials that I have made will be of much less value of Thanksgiving.  I know all my friends across the pond may not find much value in designs for the holiday, but I want to extend the same offer to all of you as I did on Facebook.  From now until Dec 1, I am offering my 2 turkeys for half price, $5.  You'll be sent a link that provides the tutorials as streaming video and a coupon code that will add them to your account for free on Dec 1.  At that time you can download and stream them whenever you like.
Just send $5 to mailto:mrtwist@magicaltwists.com">mrtwist@magicaltwists.com via PayPal and I'll get an email sent you as soon as I am able.

Balloon Chit Chat / What does your wife do?
January 24, 2013, 08:16:22 PM
How should I answer that question?  My wife is a doctor and I don't want to tell people that for several reasons.  My answer now is very vague but I will be moving to a much smaller community and being vague won't really work anymore.  Any suggestions.

Balloon Chit Chat / Balloon Cups
January 23, 2013, 08:32:59 PM
Thought I would try my hand at making a Balloon Cup for V-Day based on the Bear in Beatings book.  I think it turned out well, despite the Starbucks logo on the back side.  How do you use this product?  I work out of my home and do a fair number of deliveries, but have a minimum order and I cannot imagine someone paying my min. for one of these.  Has anyone found a way to sell these successfully?  I could see it as a impulse item at a retail store, but nothing beyond that.

Balloon Chit Chat / Stage Twisting
December 17, 2012, 09:44:12 PM
I have been ask to take part in a variety show and have a 6 minute window to make balloon animals.  The audience will largely be adults, so what I make needs to be impressive.  Has anyone ever done something like this?  This event is taking place in two weeks.  I plan on making most of the sculpture before hand and putting it together on stage.  Should I speak, should I do it in total silence, music?  As far as the sculpture, I want to make something big and something that will be great for taking pictures with.  Any ideas are welcome.

Balloon Review Things That Go Pop In The Night by Don Caldwell DVD
Available from Tmyers, LaRocks Fun and Magic Outlet $30-$35 When in stock

Most of Don Caldwell's early work was converted from VHS to DVD and rereleased.  This DVD was released in 2006 and has some added features.  Despite being filmed in a room (not studio) and remastered for DVD, the video quality is surprisingly good.  There is a good variety of types, difficulties, and sizes of balloons.  The DVD says it is intermediate to advanced, however, that was 6 years ago and compared to Don's more recent material, these models are straight forward and intermediate.

Now a blast from the past...

Calling all twisters, clowns, and wise entertainers who know a good oppurtunity when it comes along, Shonna Flannigan will be teaching two pre-convention classes at the Kentucky Clown Derby Nov 1-3
Shonna will be teaching a comprehensive class on Thursday, beginner - intermediate and she will be teaching some of her amazing work with Big Bear Heads and caterpillar bodies!  Complete details for Thursday are on the website
www.kentuckyclownderby.com
Friday's class is not listed on the site and will be focused more on decor.  The first half is $50 and teached columsn using rounds and Link O Loons.  The afternoon is deco-twisted columns and is $50 or the whole day for just $75!  the afternoon session is about what Sonna calls gifting columns, a 260 column that has up to 20 twisted figures attached, use it for decor and then give the pieces away as party favors!  Sell one and it more than makes up for the scost of the class.

Balloon Review / 051 - STRETCH'S TWISTED PARTY MASKS VOL 1
September 13, 2012, 02:42:14 AM
Stetch's Twisted Party Masks Vol. 1

Thanks to David Brenion masks have become very popular, albeit, time consuming.  I was intrigued when Stretch announced that he would be teaching his style of masks on his summer teaching tour.  As I was not going to be able to attend any of the classes I was awaiting the release of the class material at the end of the summer.
The instructions are in PDF format, which was nice because I didn't want to wait for the DVD to come in the mail.  The masks mostly use 360s and in the opening Stretch explains why he uses 360s over 350s, length.  If you do not have a lot of 360s, which ever 350s you plan on using, you will use extra.  I used 360s for about half of the masks and it makes life a lot easier.
The masks with a couple exceptions have the same basic structure and the instructions are very easy to follow along with.  By the time I had worked through them all I was getting very fast and improved bubble consistency.

Let's see what we have...

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Autumn Decor Help
August 29, 2012, 03:01:53 AM
I am creating a display for an event and I am having difficulty determining what kind of barrier to use to define the space and keep little feet away from my tree and scarecrow.  For a spring event I made the low wall of rounds with flowers and spiraled 260s sticking out.  But am not sure what do with autumn colors, a tree of yellow, brown and burgandy would look odd with a green wall of flowers surrounding it.  the barrier will be 8 meters total length.
Any ideas?

Balloon Chit Chat / Exciting news from Korea!
August 09, 2012, 03:54:12 AM
Earlier today, Hyun-Gu Park, a.k.a. Beating changed his profile picture to the cover of his NEW BOOK in English containing 21 designs from his character and balloon cup series.  Not details yet about cost and distribution but he said the information will be along soon.  Like other people (cough) Nippy, I enjoy collecting balloon instruction material and will follow this almost to the point of obsession and keep updating this thread whenever any new information surfaces.

Balloon Review / 045 - HUGGABLES BY ALBERTO FALCONE
July 21, 2012, 04:36:09 AM
Huggables is the second of two twister DVDs released by Alberto Falcone several months ago.  You can find a distributor near you by visiting Alberto's website http://albertofalcone.com/  As with his other DVDs the quality is excellent and the models were thoroughly explained.  Alberto teaches with a purple qualatex pump and uses the number of pumps to measure inflation.  The camera work in the DVD is an improvement over the others, different angles are frequently used to to provide a better view.
The models taught on Huggables all use a simliar base.  The name comes from a way that the balloons that make up the base "hug" each other.
Let see what Alberto has for us this time....

044 - Balloon Review By CJ: Sissy Star System by Alberto Falcone

Several months ago Alberto Falcone released a second trio of DVDs, this time with two aimed at twisters.  You can find a distributor near you by visiting Alberto's website http://albertofalcone.com/

The DVD is of the highest quality, it is easy to navigate, and Alberto's instructions are easy to follow, despite English being a second language.  A negative aspect of the instruction is that he does not always communicate how much you need to inflate the balloon and in some instances does not communicate the bubble size that you are needing to make.  For intermediate or advanced twisters, this does not pose a serious problem.

The basis of the DVD is what Alberto calls the Sissy Star, named after his daughter, and every model uses the star as its foundation.
As Nippy says, let's see what we have...

Balloon Chit Chat / Balloon Garden
February 06, 2012, 02:05:36 AM
At the beginning of March, I am building a large balloon garden.  The planning and designing is almost complete.  I have flowers, animals, foutains, and more.  What I am lacking is foilage, I want to garden to be lush and want to do more than simply inflate big bunches of balloons and bundle them together.  It does however, need to be quick and use 260 or 350/360s.
