Thanks, guys. I had hoped that more people would show us their contract, though, so we could get more ideas. I like the questions about the content of Graeme's show - which party games, etc. - but perhaps we could have another thread for that and save this one for discussing contract issues.

I want to develop a contract. At the moment I have a confirmation email that lays out the details of the booking as discussed - time, venue, fee, etc. - and gives our requirements re space needed, the venue setup, cancellation policy, etc. I'll put that on here later today, but it isn't a contract as such.

Cheers,

Graham and Graeme (oh dear, this does get confusing sometimes  :) ) - about the parking - I always stipulate that we want a parking spot very near the door closest to the stage or wherever we'll be performing. In almost all cases they will put those orange cones down to save us a parking spot.

For gigs in central Auckland where this is a problem and they won't provide parking, I just factor the cost of parking into the fee, adding in a generous amount that will more than cover it. As for the unloading and then moving the vehicle, unfortunately that will be necessary in these cases. But, those central city gigs are almost always very well paid, possibly even corporate gigs, so it's worth the inconvenience. Graeme, it all depends how much work you have - we can't afford to refuse a gig because of parking hassles. :(

P.S. Thanks for putting up that contract, Graeme - that's exactly what I'd hoped people would do, and after more studying of it, I will probably have more questions or comments.

After reading of Graham's recent nasty experience with a scumbag who booked his time and then didn't show up, it occurred to me that it would be really helpful if those of us who have a contract could share it with the rest of us. I don't really have much of a one - just a few terms like in the event of a cancellation, 50% of the fee is owed if cancelled less than three weeks ahead, 80% within the last week, and 100% for cancellation on the day (usually weather related).

If anyone has a nicely worded, legal sounding contract, can you put it on here? I mean, more than one person - everyone who has one. Maybe it could be uploaded as a file or something. I don't know the best way. Then, we could discuss the pros and cons of the different clauses.

This would be a useful addition to the knowledge we share on the Forum.

Do you find that your wife is rather cold and unresponsive, Martin? At any rate, I bet she doesn't talk back!  :D

Thanks, Smiggle! Yes, we were wondering what she was on, as well.  :o
She MAKES the video, IMHO. It's almost like we paid her for her performance - it would have been worth it, paying her. It sure sells our dances well!

I love it, Craig! I've never tried with the 646s. Hardly even 360s. I'll have to order some and have a go.

What happened? I bet you deflated his ego, and he is now too weak to perform.

Update: Well, I went to the page that link takes you to, and did a search for Barn Dance Auckland, and it came up with my video, in the "recently added" list. So I assume it will eventually just come up with that link, and go straight to the page.

Darn! Yes, I see what you mean, Graham. That's the URL I get when I go to my YouTube page and click on my video. I wonder if there's a delay before it becomes public. I'll keep checking that, and put a message on here when it goes "live". Just "for your information", in case others are uploading videos, and would like to know the ins and outs.

Yes, it is the same video as on the website - improved over the one I put on last week.

Thanks, Graham.

OK - I have re-done and re-submitted the video. I think I have done a much better job of editing it this time, and added URLs, etc. If anyone has time to have a look, I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Thanks so much for your help and suggestions, John. Now I am off to start editing some other videos, with kids shows this time, so I can put some more clips on Youtube. I'm on a roll! :D

Balloon Chit Chat / Re: Thelma Levett C-D

     I have amended my review of Thelma's CD, and spelled her name right in the title now. I think I should get half marks, though, because I actually had spelt it right in the body of the review. I know how awful it is when people ALWAYS get your name wrong, because that happens to me too. Sorry Thelma.

Graham, you are doing a smashing job with your new photo box. That owl looks so professional when photographed in your box.

Can you think of a good title that would be compelling and engaging? I did put lots of good keywords in the field they give for that.

YES, YES, YES! John, I'm going to do ALL those things you said. I don't know why I didn't think to do some of that stuff, as I have seen URLs on other videos, etc. I was just struggling with the video editing program - first time I have used it.

I am going to re-edit the video and re-submit! Also, I noticed that one of the dances gets a bit tedious with too many repetitions, so I will cut out one time through that dance.

Yes, and we do the "Gay Gordons" as well, but perhaps we won't go there . . .  ;)

Cheers,
Kath 8-)

P.S. Would you like to be my manager, John?  :) Or perhaps Mentor?  :)

Meaning, I finally figured out how to edit some videotape footage we had, and managed to upload it to YouTube and our website! Links to both our website link and the YouTube page are below.

It's nothing to do with balloon twisting, but I'm so chuffed to have figured out YouTube, especially since I use the Linux operating system (with all its idiosyncracies), that I just had to tell you guys!
