Picture Gallery / Been busy . . .
February 15, 2011, 07:30:47 PM
Had a few twisty jobs only recently so I've had a lot of fun.

The 1st was a Buzz Lightyear request for a birthday boy, didn't have too long to do this so didn't get to put the detail on I'd have liked, but still happy with it.

The 2nd was a Tangled themed cinema party, so I did a centrepiece for the birthday girl!

The 3rd was a swimming pool party, so I did an 'Under the sea' themed decor piece.

All were well received.

Balloon Decor / I'm in love . . .
February 11, 2011, 08:44:30 PM
I was lucky enough to get a Zibi Z46 off ebay this week and it arrived today!

I was doing a 6ft balloon column today for a school valentine's disco and it arrived just in time. It was FAB!! I got all of the balloons inflated in under 5 mins with it (it has a sizer on it too - bonus)!! The whole column then only took around 12/15 mins to do! I had made the first of the two columns yesterday and it took me about 30 mins, so saved so much time

It's my new best friend!!

I love it

Just seen this:

Thought there would be a good few twisters on here who might want to have a go

(Graham - I wasn't sure if I should post this in competitions, but figured that was just for balloon chat comps).

Balloon Decor / Foil hearts
January 21, 2011, 01:28:49 PM
Hiya,

Anyone know where I can get hold of some 'inexpensive' 18" foil hearts?

I need quite a few please - I know last year someone found a very good deal for them, so wondered if the same deal was on - I didn't know where they were from though . . . .

Thanks

Lisa.

Balloon Decor / starting out!
January 13, 2011, 03:32:38 PM
After having a bit of a dabble last year, I've really been bitten by the decor bug now and want to develop that side of the business this year as I think it's a natural progression from what we already do.

Thankfully have a few friends who are 40 this year, so plenty of time to practice before getting out in the real world. I don't have a lot of free time at all, so any chance to practice will be appreciated.

I've just invested in some helium and a regulator and so will be putting it to use at my first friends' 40th this weekend. I'm just doing basic bouquets and a pearl arch, but it's a start.

I was lucky enough to get hold of a video cassette version of the QBN series, from a friend who got it in a shop clearance package (Thanks!  ;) ). I know I can't do the QBN test without buying a registration code, but it's a very useful tool to start with.

I have watched and re-watched it, studied the internet for advice and what/what not to do's, and for as much info as possible to help me start out.

Both my hubby and myself are 40 this year too, and have planned a 10 night trip to America in October with the kids (Vegas and New York), so funds will be much tighter than I thought and I'm not sure if I'll be able to get on a course with Pam until after the hols, but I shall keep playing and trying new things until then.

I just wanted to thank everyone on this forum because it is a great resource and even without asking questions, I've already found out loads to get off on the right foot.

I'm sure I'll be asking loads in the future though  :)  :)

Picture Gallery / Justin Bieber
January 09, 2011, 07:32:48 PM
I was asked to make a Justin Bieber balloon for a birthday girl. The only distinguishing features I could think of were his baseball cap, head microphone and hoody - this is what I came up with.

The 2nd pic is the model 'in-situ' at her disco party, finished size including column was about six foot. (I didn't take it to the venue, but the pink and purple 260's were originally twisted around the column!).

I did put this on Facebook when I got them, but thought I'd share with you what my gorgeous, kind and considerate sister bought me for my birthday last month.

There's only you guys who would understand

Picture Gallery / Newest Snow White
January 09, 2011, 07:13:11 PM
I did a new version of Snow White for a birthday girl today, which I personally think is much improved on last years' version.

I think it's quite interesting to look over older designs to see what a difference time and more experience can make.

This is a really girly thing to ask, but does anyone know of a make of nail varnish you can wear when twisting without it getting ruined?

I'm sick of painting my nails, only for them looking rotten at the end of a job because the balloons have rubbed it off.

I know the easy answer is to not wear nail varnish, which is what I do most of the time, but I do like to have my nails painted.

Balloon Decor / 1st attempt ever!
November 25, 2010, 09:08:36 PM
A friend of mine hosted a charity night last week and so I offered to do some table balloons for her. I currently don't have helium and I have never done any sort of balloon decor before so it was a big challenge and learning curve and there were a few slight discrepancies in height on a couple, so you professionals please forgive me!

I didn't get to see them properly 'in situ' but I've had lots of lovely comments about them and two people have asked me to do some stuff for them for their parties in Dec and Jan, so I'll have to have a think about what to do for them.

I want to go on Pam's decor basics course, but at the moment just can't afford it, so I'm just playing around with them for now and we'll see how I go on.

I've spent tonight working on a Justin Bieber design for a friends' daughter who is having a party tomorrow, so I've tried to incorporate some decor into that and will get some pics tomorrow when I set it up.

Any cc will be welcomed.

Thanks, Lisa.

* these were not properly finished when my friend took the pics, as some of them still needed ribbon adding, but you get the idea  :D

Picture Gallery / Fire Engine
September 24, 2010, 08:11:33 PM
I've just made this for the little boy whose party I'm doing tomorrow - it's the first time I've made a fire engine and was pretty pleased with it.

It's a ride in one so have put the pics of my little one in their to show the size.

I got the hosepipe idea from the imnotaclown youtube vid so thanks for that  :D

September 24, 2010, 08:08:07 PM
Busy old birthday time for us - it was my father-in-law's 65th birthday and retirement on the same day. He's been driving trucks for 40 years so I had to make him one.

They loved it at his depot and didn't want him to take it with him  :D

Picture Gallery / Nana
September 24, 2010, 08:06:07 PM
It was my nana's 80th a few weeks ago, so I made her a balloon parody. I had it sat in the hole of the '0' on the big 8 and 0 balloons we got her and it look really good - I don't have a photograph of it in there though unfortunately. Made a nice entrance piece though.

Hi all!

I have got an entry in the TAG Body Art competition on Facebook at the moment.

Voting ends today and thanks to lots of lovely friends, I am about 10 votes behind the current leader.

The prize is 6 TAG paints and 3 brushes (which in the facepainting world is worth around £80), so it's worth a final push asking people to vote for me please.

The link to my entry is:

http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/pho ... 9152509985

You have to 'like' TAG Body art first, then you can 'like' my photo. If you have more than one FB account, you can vote from each

Don't go voting for any others though - even if you prefer theirs
you'll cancel out my vote!!

July 03, 2010, 08:30:55 PM
The birthday boy at tomorrow's booking loves Fireman Sam, so thanks to Jordan O'Grady as a search found this link:

I took inspiration from that, added a couple of little touches and produced this:

Balloon Chit Chat / Displaying balloons
June 03, 2010, 11:07:07 PM
Hiya,

How do you lot display your balloons?

I've got a gig this weekend (for face painting) but I've said I'd make some balloons up in advance as they're having a donations bucket, so it might encourage them to donate more  :D

I'm in a gazebo and will have the face painting and glitter tattoo stuff going on, but wondered if you had any novel ideas for displaying the balloons - don't really want to attach them to the outside of the gazebo as the sun will discolour and wilt them, but do want to make a nice display!

I'm struggling for ideas as to how to do it. I'll only have about an hour and a half tomorrow evening to make them up so don't want to spend too much time on a display (therefore no big balloon display to attach them to etc), just wondered if you had any 'equipment' that worked for putting them on/in.

Going to make up a load of swords and put them in a basket, but it's the other stuff I want to make look attractive to encourage them to donate.

Thanks,

Lisa.
