Hiya,

Out of sheer madness (you'd think I'd have learned my lesson last year), I am going to be running in the Manchester 10k race again on Sunday 16th May and my 10yr old is going to be doing the Junior 2.5k run the day before.

Those who know me have seen how well designed I am for such a feat (ie: NOT!!).

Instead of mithering people with two sponsor forms, we have created Team Murphy! We are running for The Together Trust, a wonderful charity providing educational support for those with special needs, Autism, behavioural disorders etc.

If you can spare a few ££'s then we would really appreciate it - you can either pm me and I can write it on our paper form, then either collect payment or get it through paypal or BACS transfer or you can visit our sponsor page at:

http://www.justgiving.com/team-murphy

We are £15 off £100 sponsorship so I'm plugging this everywhere to try and reach our £150 target.

I know times are hard at the moment, and even a pound or two can make a difference.

Thanks.

Lisa.

Balloon Chit Chat / Balloons and flying??
May 05, 2010, 02:49:22 PM
Hiya,

I'm after a bit of advice please.

Does anyone know whether pre-designed balloon figures could withstand flights?

I've been asked by a friend if I could make some balloon models but she wants to take them to Prague, unfortunately she can't afford to take me with her to make them there, but I wasn't sure logistically whether the balloons would withstand air pressures etc. There would be 20 designs in total - probably Lootle type designs.

Anyone know if it would work and best storage etc if it would.

Thanks,

Lisa.

Inspired by Twistina's birthday footballer, I was asked for one for a 40th birthday party last week so did this! I didn't have any dark blue 350's so had to do a four twist 260 body instead of two 350's but I think it worked OK.

See if you can guess what team he's from . . .

I was asked for a Hannah Montana balloon model for today's birthday girl, wasn't really sure what to do, but came up with this. (I didn't like the neck bubble, but it was late last night I was doing it so I just wanted to get it finished!)

The birthday girl loved it though and all her friends kept asking me for one for themselves, so I think it was hit!

Picture Gallery / Valentine balloon for hubby
February 13, 2010, 08:34:48 PM
I wanted to do something for my hubby for tomorrow and wanted it to be a bit of fun instead of too soppy, so with inspiration from Bonnie's Thunder Thighs, I came up with this - hope he likes it!

The pic has been printed and used on his card and I'll give him the balloon later on with his present.

Aww, 16 years on and still in love  ;)

Sorry, can't get that song out of my head now!

I've been asked for a Timmy Time balloon for one of the birthday children this weekend so I was just having a play and come up with this.

My little un has claimed this one as it's one of his favourite cbeebies shows, but I was pleased with it anyway and shall enjoy making it again for Saturday.

I've also put this on the country comp board as it's by a British animator :D  :D

My little boy is really into Waybuloo at moment and asked me to make him a Yojojo - so I had a go at it.

It's actually very straight forward and was instantly recognisable by my two year old so I was very pleased.

Picture Gallery / Ride in Thomas
January 05, 2010, 07:06:49 PM
I was doing a party for a little boy last week who loved Thomas the Tank Engine, so I thought I'd have a go at a larger scale model for him.

I had no internet access but kind of remembered a few designs I'd seen when searching a previous time, so kind of cobbled together a design. It took over an hour to do, but I suppose it would come easier next time. It was also a bit wonky  :D  but the little boy was absolutely over the moon with it.

My two year old (in the pic) absolutely loved it too and has been mithering me to make him one since, although I just haven't had a chance. He did ask for a James and Henry too! Best get myself a free afternoon hey?

Any feedback/comments would be welcomed. Thanks.

Picture Gallery / princesses
October 28, 2009, 07:48:22 PM
I've been asked for a Cinderella as a birthday balloon, so have had a browse through a few pics of other princesses and come up with an amalgamation of a few ideas I've seen, with a couple of touches of my own. I also did a Snow White, although I realised afterwards that her bodice is blue, so I'll change that next time.

After practice, I can get these done in 5 mins now and are made using 260's, however for the birthday girl I'll be using 350's for that wow factor.

I took them over to give to my two nieces today and they absolutely LOVED them, so a big success I think  :D

Hiya,

A girl at work is getting married early next year and was just talking to me about entertainment. She said she is looking for a magician/walkabout entertainer type person for the afternoon period between the meal and reception.

She is open to offers  :D  so if you're in that neck of the woods or will travel there, then please get in touch with her with what you have to offer.

The wedding is at Hazlewood Castle on 20 Feb 2010

Her name is Emma and her email address is:

Balloon Chit Chat / come dine with me
September 17, 2009, 04:58:17 PM
That's not an invitation

The programme on Channel 4 at 5.30 has just shown a clip of tomorrow's show and the host is handing out balloon models to his guests.

Don't know if he made them or had them made, but will be interesting to see

Following some instructions I have made this tonight. I know it's nothing spectacular to most of you seasoned twisters, and I'm only posting as it takes a lot to impress my 9yr old son nowadays with balloons but he told me it's 'the best balloon I've ever made' and wants to take it into school tomorrow.

Just need to do it a few more times now to get used to it as I don't think it will take too long then.

It took about 20 mins for me following instructions.

Balloon Chit Chat / The Balloon Hat Experience
April 14, 2009, 07:01:19 PM
Hi,

I don't know if this has been posted previously (I did search but couldn't find anything relating to it), but I found this site when I was browsing earlier and thought it was great.

If you go on the stories link, there are some great tales.

I used to hate balloons - I was scared of them popping and would never consider adding balloon modelling to my face painting business, so I never thought after my first taste of latex almost a year ago I would be twistng my way round the North West  :D

It was my very good friend Alison who first showed me my first balloon dog and sword and then it was home to you tube, dvds, books etc with my first pack of 260s before becoming addicted. Oh and to work on my face, that used to distort as much as the balloons.

I started off my business as a facepainter and found that adding the balloons was a real selling point but now I get regular work just for balloon jobs. Of course, that was an excuse to have to buy my apron, busking bag, every type of balloon going etc . . .

Of course, putting money back into the business means that I've still not earned enough money to buy Alison that very expensive bottle of champagne that she deserves (and requested  ;) )but as the business builds and builds, hopefully one day I will.

My 9 year old son has also become quite addicted too, so I'm building my little empire for the future.

Thanks to all on this forum for sharing so much too - it has been a great resource.

Steve Howard is looking for a walkabout balloon modeller/entertainer on Saturday in Comberbach, Cheshire

Some of you may have heard from this guy - he's been ringing round for a good few weeks but he's just come back to me as I said I'd post his details if he couldn't find someone.

It's for a picnic/band event and is just looking for someone to mingle in the crowds while the bands are on. The event starts at 1pm and finishes at 5pm but he is happy for you to do whatever hours you can.

Please contact him for full details and to give him your fees on:

mailto:steve@comberbach.com">steve@comberbach.com
or

Please post if filled. Thanks.

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Help wanted please
September 02, 2008, 06:42:47 PM
Hiya,

I've posted this on a couple of forums, so sorry if you're reading again.

I said I would make some balloons to take along as prizes for anyone getting up on karaoke at my sister's 40th birthday party on Saturday.

It's a Stars in their Eyes type event, so balloons with a musical theme would be fab. Trouble is, I can only think of a guitar!!

Can anyone come up with some other ideas - I will probably have to make around 20 and won't have much time before I go (and won't be doing them there - too busy drinking) so anything simple would be great (with instructions if possible please)

Thanks a lot.

Lisa.

PS, I've been advised of a microphone hat and lips. I've also seen some musical notes, but any others would be welcomed.
