Picture Gallery / Piglet cake
August 23, 2012, 10:56:39 AM
Here is a Piglet cake I made for a piglet mad friends birthday.  Piglet design is Twistina's but scaled up to use 350 and 260 as I didn't have right colors in 260 and 160.  Is first time have tried to scale up a model, am fairly pleased although think could do better.

Picture Gallery / For World Breastfeeding Week 2012
August 08, 2012, 02:15:06 AM
Inspired by the waterbirth model and it being World Breastfeeding Week - for a bit of fun I made this model - I didn't really have the right colors or think enough about it from the start but went down well and is now sat on front desk at HQ of Australian Breastfeeding Association.

I am sure I read somewhere (but now fail to find) that someone has a stall in London somewhere?  Family and I are visiting London for a week 2nd - 8th of September and meeting up with our friends from Barcelona staying in central London, and would love to be able to visit a balloon stall with the kids (4 between us) and say hi too - for some reason in my mind is Spitalfields market which is great if it is because hubby and friend used to work round there so would have the added fun of checking out their old haunts.

Cheers,

Vic

Haven't had as much time with balloons as I would like recently but have done a few models over the past few days as is my sons 1st birthday and instead of party bags etc I am giving away balloons.

Several of these designs are from Twistina's Five Min pdf's.  For some reason I find videos hard to follow and love the paper format.

My other hobby is designing fabrics on a site called Spoonflower, and now I have been combining this with twisting to create some balloon fabrics from photos of balloon models (I checked with Twistina if was ok to use the cat as is her design).

&

Here are some pics of the fabric and things I have created from the swatches.

If anyone would like to know more about how to design their own fabrics on Spoonflower,  or would be interested in getting me to design some fabrics from balloon models - please drop me a message.

My big project with this is going to be to do an I Spy quilt where all the fabric panels are balloon designs.   Although balloons are quite well represented on fabric,  balloon models are not apart from the occasional balloon dog you see, and there seems to be so much you can do with balloons I think can make some really cool fabrics with them.

Picture Gallery / 3rd Birthday Cake and Fairy
May 30, 2012, 10:46:30 PM
Here is what I made for my daughters 3rd birthday.  Finding the hot climate in Darwin more challenging so cake suffered a few deflations but she loved it.  Unfortunately it appears what she really wanted was to change the colour of the dress on her existing balloon  fairy -  mmm not sure how would achieve that one :-)

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Tie off and discard
May 12, 2012, 10:37:00 PM
I did a quick search but couldn't find anything but maybe looking for wrong term - is there a particular method for ending a balloon e.g tie off and discard rest of balloon?  Currently this is my most feared instruction as have managed to deflate creation a couple of times.  Watching a balloon twister at a fair the other week he did so quick I couldn't see how he was doing it - but it almost appeared like he had something on his wrist using to cut off remaining balloon?

Balloon Chit Chat / Instagram fans?
May 01, 2012, 12:16:09 PM
Anyone on here a fan of Instagram (is a IPhone/Android App for sharing photos)?

I have been following these photo a day challenges (see attached pic example) - where you are given a word and have to take a photo somehow linked to that word and tag it, you can then see all the photos with that tag.

Thought maybe this forum could do something similar - all need to do is come up with 30 balloon related words - and come up with the overall tag e.g. #balloonchatphotoaday.  I know the one I do, I had never heard of the website till started doing the photo thing - so seems like good publicity.

They wouldn't all have to be words for balloon models - just something balloon related.

Am happy to help come up with words.

(Or as a newbie maybe I am a just a little over enthusiastic about balloons)

Picture Gallery / Flower vase - Thankyou present
May 01, 2012, 11:41:30 AM
Here is a thankyou present, I created for a colleague at a volunteer organisation I am involved with to recognize 20 years service. She was very happy with it.  My first attempt at creating any of these and didn't really follow any instructions just sort of winged it as usual.

Picture Gallery / Stegosaurus
April 27, 2012, 06:07:05 PM
Apparently the butterfly party has changed into a dinosaur party - so had a go at a dinosaur this is meant to be a stegosaurus - I made it while looking at a picture of Thelma's Stegosaurus.  Face needs work and ran out of balloon do has very stumpy tail but is a little dinosaur like.

Picture Gallery / Butterfly
April 25, 2012, 10:33:42 AM
My toddler is going to a butterfly themed party next week - so I have been practicing butterflies - here is my first attempt.  The final attempt will do in some pink, purple, blue but I am saving those balloons as only have a couple.  I like the way the wings flap on this one.

Picture Gallery / Kangaroo with Joey
April 23, 2012, 01:53:51 AM
A friend wanted me to make her a kangaroo - I only have 260's and running out of browns etc, so re-used some balloons that had been used for other things and came up with this. 1 yellow 260 for main part, and then another two yellow scraps for big feed and patch, and an orange scrap for the joey (not very happy with the joey)

Picture Gallery / Guinea Pig Attempt
April 21, 2012, 01:17:45 PM
I was going to post this in the guinea pig challenge but realized it is locked because is old - I am still getting used to this forum.   Anyway Guinea Pigs are many of my family members favorite animal, so I had to attempt one, this was inspired by Patricia Bunnell's -  in the guinea pig challenge (//http://balloonchat.co.uk/post21888.html?hilit=guinea%20pig#p21888), but I only have 260 balloons so had to improvise the rest.  My brother is 30 soon and loves guinea pigs so will make him a few, in various color combos, with maybe some veg to go with them.  This one I am calling Clover after the black and white guinea pig we had as kids.

Balloon Tutorial & Help / What should I buy?
April 20, 2012, 10:18:03 PM
Balloons are really expensive here in Oz so thought I would order some stuff in UK and get my dad to bring over in a couple of weeks (rapidly getting through my one bag of 260's). So for someone who is just learning but would like to try some more than one balloon models and has 40GBP to spend what would you get?  My main audience are my kids so toddlers.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome / G-Day from Melbourne
April 19, 2012, 12:01:02 PM
Hello from Melbourne Australia,  I am originally from the UK but been over here 4 years and here is now home.  I have recently taken up balloon twisting just for fun to entertain my two little ones, and various other little ones at playgroup etc.  I really love it because I live in small apartment and you don't need much equipment and also I can give my two (3 years and 9 months) a new balloon toy everyday that I don't need to store, sell etc etc.  Really they are the best thing if you live in a small space (and it sort of fits with my whole upcycling, recycling not filling the world with more unnecessary items, ethos  :) ). I feel like Father Christmas every day, making a creation in front of TV at night and leaving it out for my daughter to discover in the morning. (9 month old is more of a balloon popping monster and I have to be quite diligent in picking up all popped pieces)

I have been reading the tutorial section already and seems like an excellent, friendly forum, and has opened my eyes to how much is possible with balloons and a little vision - look forward to learning more from you all.

Cheers - Vic
