I was asked to make something for the Dr Seuss birthday bash at the school that I work for and I was wondering if anyone would have any ideas for me

Hope that helps

(Two New Zealanders as the first to answer, now that doesn't happen often)

I'd suggest a big woven red and white hat, plus green eggs and ham, and a fish in a fish bowl...

I would lay money that that is an inside out geo blossom. I think it is Bonnie that has some designs using geo's in unusual ways. Either that or it is a large heart?

Oh and Charles I think the reason it was 2 antipodeans responding first is because we were all in bed asleep. The original post was at 2.46am and yours was at 6.40am ish UK time ;) Although I am often up at that time I am not with it enough to respond to posts!

Yvonne, that can't be the reason, it's 5:39am here now, and here I am, posting replies...

But back on topic, I'd shie away from a full on cat in the hat if you want the face perfect, unless there is a week or so to practice.

Thing 1 and 2 are much easier to make look good due to their outfits and hair, and the most identifiable part of the the Cat in the Hat is his white and red hat. In your position, i would make myself that style of hat, and prepare for the fact that half of the punters will be asking for dogs and swords.

To theme it, aim to make everything you can out of white and red and it will look fantastic.

In my opinion...

Look at the books themselves and try to see beyond the actual characters. What is the style of the books? I see curved and swirled lines and on overall light feel. Consider doing work that resembles and reflects that. When such a style comes to mind I think of the work of Addi Somekh especially his hats. I would look into those.

As always,
Dylan
