I have been working on some instructional videos and I want to get some input. I have a handful up already and am uploading a frog and bubble wand as we speak! Check them out.

Dylan, you have a very nice way and style about yourself. I really like the crossbow and will make one later, I expect I will be making this for the real world, thanks.

Hi SignedDiamond,

Thanks for posting the videos. I watched the bubble wand and the frog, both great figures. I will have a go at them when I have a moment.

Some suggestions for the video....

- It would be great to see the figure at the start of the video so we know what it is & maybe with close ups too.
- You kind of do this but it would be great to be clearer what balloons you need to make the model.
- I find the pool or snooker table makes you quite distant from the camera. It would be great to have you closer to the camera.
And the frog was not so clear with the green balloons and green surface of the table!
- I know its hard, but if you could not um and ahh so much that would come across as more professional. (But you don't do it too much to be annoying.)
- Do you have a website/blog/facebook page? maybe advertise yourself at the end of the video!

Please realise I am trying to help and feel free to ignore all or any of the above!

best wishes,
Danny

I am very glad to hear that you like the models. I have basically cut myself off from seeing anyones work as much as I can for the last year and a half in the attempt at originality (for personal reasons) and I am glad to see that there is something to show for it. There will be more videos to come with videos that Teach things I have never seen made with balloons before.

Danny you make a ton of excellent points. I will work on the ums and ers (hard to do when you don't think about them) and get some stills for the videos in the future. Perhaps I will put a full list of materials needed in the description for each of the videos and make that a bit clearer in the future.
To be honest I hate working off that pool table. The lighting is all wrong, being to dark or to bright but it has been raining hard and that kept me from my normal outdoorsy videos. Your green on green comment sent me over though. No more pool table.

I completely welcome every bit of advice you have and don't be shy about it.

As always,
Dylan

Dylan I've just watched your frog and Crossbow videos and I'm impressed. I love your frog and I can't wait until the kids go to bed so I can watch some more in peace

Thanks.

The Crossbow as I said can be modified very easily as long as everything is still there. I taught the simple version that ended with making 2 small bubbles at the end of the arm loop. I myself dont care for this look and change the way it is made often but for line work the kids don't worry about perfection so much as function.

Something that has had me thinking... I posted the link to the channel on another forum as well and received this as a response.

Edited by Graham Lee Admin, this is the link to the topic on another forum, http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view ... orum=181&8
The post referred to is by Perry D. Winkle
.

This is in interesting viewpoint. Am I giving away to much at the disadvantage of others? I have a variety of other videos planned (mostly boy stuff) but should I instead collect them all into a project to be put for sale? I never considered this industry to be a secretive one but the fellow quoted above does make a few points that have made me think. What do you think?

As always,
Dylan

Dylan - it must have been a bit of a blow to receive such negative comments. I wonder if that person sent Don Caldwell a similar message when he started placing some of his tutorials on YouTube? We as a community grow from sharing with one another, and should not feel threatened by the growth of our competition - it should inspire us to step up our game a little.

As for threatening future sales - I wonder if Don's sales have increased by his exposure? If this is a taste of what you have to offer, then yours would be a DVD/CD I would want to have on my bookshelf!

Please don't be discouraged

Anyway, just my two cents worth
Lisa
