For a party over Xmas I am planning to make some designs (4-5 balloons) and then use helium foils to support them on a string, kind of like a parachute type effect.

I will then let the kids take them at the end of the party.

Can anyone tell me what size of foil balloon will be best to give enough lift?

Would it be easier to use rounds instead as you could then add more helium if required, probably a lot cheaper as well. Or does it have to be foils for a specific reason?

Look forward to seeing some pictures of the displays.

I know Thelma did some experiments with helium to support models but I think she actually inflated some of the modeling balloons with helium to make them self supporting - but I could be wrong

The only reason why I was thinking Foils was that they will stay up for a few days afterwards (and hopefully heighten the enjoyment).

For this particular event I don't need to worry too much on budget; I'll maybe have a play with each type and see how they hold out.

Will definitely post some pics.

If you buy the plain coloured foils rounds, Hearts & Stars you will find them a lot cheaper than the printed ones (winnie the pooh etc etc) you will also find your wholesaler may sell unpackaged balloons to be cheaper still.

Foil balloons will hold Twisted designs in place but we always find if we are using a 260 model and want it to be held up we find if we attach it to four small 5" balloons inflated to 4" and tied together by the knots and tie the twisted model into the centre and then add the helium filled balloons (you will also need a weight to hold the helium balloon down which can be also tied into the centre knots but below the cluster
of four balloons)
