Hi all,

As I pack up my bags and head to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, I thought it would be good to discuss balloons, you and your business and the media. By the Media I mean, newspapers, magazines, radio, tv, bloggs, facebook , twitter and anything else you can think of.

I have a publicist working for me in Edinburgh so I'm watching how they do it and learning!

This is a very particular area of marketing ....

Do you do press releases to your local papers when you have something new?

Have you any contacts in the media?

Is all publicity good?

How do you get media coverage of you and your company?

What do you have to say?

HI Danny,

its a very good and interesting question. The large companies and corporations are limiting to zeroing their marketing currently, but this is having a very negative effect. I think this is because rather than choosing carefully who they market with, they are just closing off completely.

My recent expereince has shown me that it is far better to chose your marketing route correctly to gain maximum return. Last week I concentrated on a mail merge to a number of specific customers and potential customers. This worked very well in not only promoting our business but also to gain new business. Over the next year, we have chosen a specific industry mag to advertise in. And so on...

I totally agree that local mags/ info papers ect.. are brilliant also for advertising. We have a local advertising booklet that comes every month, just for the Crawley area. It is brilliant, as it shows all the new products that local business have, discounts ect.. We use it all the time. If you have one of these, i suggest that you use it.
