Here is a little challenge.  A lion.  I was playing with a new Boxer Dog design and trying a lot of variations as one does, and ended up with a lion.  So does anyone fancy having a go at duplicating it or making a variation and improving it.  I have put a couple of challenges on before but there has not been much response so if you don't want to do this challenge and have a particular reason I would be interested to know the reason.  i.e. is it too easy or too hard or too boring?

Oh and the nose is purple because I wasnt being too bothered about the colours as it was the construction that I was looking at.  The body is a triangle.  I didnt take a picture of the side view unfortunately and have given it away now.  It is wide at the front and a point at the back.

Oh just realised no one has responded to you Thelma.  I can't speak for anyone else but for me at the moment time is a huge issue ... I simply don't have enough of it!  I would love to have a go but it won't be until next week at the earliest and even then I may not be able to.

ok
will have a go tonight.  I was wondering whether or not to do another challenge as there is a lack of participation in them so I am pleased you are having a go.

I have a confession.  I made the lion and thought "That would be a nice one for the challenge because it looks good and it was easy to make"  So I posted it on here and then forgot how I had made it.  The fact is that when I made it, It seemed simple.  But because I didnt take a side view picture of it I found it was not simple to work out again.  I have only had this problem once before.  I made a Dumbo,  It turned out lovely first attempt.  So I took a photo thinking that was all I needed to remind me how to make it and then when I came back to it I was I ended up pulling my hair out in frustration.  I just remembered thinking "well that was sooo simple" when I made it originally.  Oh well.  I am sitting here with a pile of rejects.  Here is my closest rendition.  I got fed up so just drew the eyes on instead of adding some in and I don't want to do another.  Grrrrrrr.

Hey Thelma!

I'm going to give this a try tomorrow - yes, it doesn't look too easy (for me, anyway!), but unless I push myself and try then I'm not going to get better, so....  I'll put my photos up tomorrow evening however it turns out, and hopefully if it's not too good I'll be lucky enough to get tips and feedback.

I, for one, would be definitely be up for your challenges - please don't stop, I'll participate!

Cheers

I will do more challenges if enough people participate.  So lets put the figure at 6 people having a genuine attempt at this challenge.  Enjoy the challenge.

Hi Thelma

err - well, I did promise, so here it is, a somewhat pathetic attempt so feel free to laugh!  My wife thinks it looks like a demented basset hound with jaundice, but hey - I gave it a try!

I'll keep trying with it, but it's obviously no where near as good as yours, so I don't think you've got much to worry about!

Best regards

Hi Neil
It was nice to see you tried your hand at it.  Why would I laugh?  I had trouble remembering how I had made it and in the end settled for a close version.  Just a point about the mane.  The reason it looks strange is that you have not given yourself an anchor point for the bottom of the mane.  I made the body a triangle.  The legs went to two points of the triangle and the tail comes from the other point.  So the mane went down to the same point that the legs joined it.  The neck goes into the middle point between the two legs and the back joins the neck doen the middle to the point that the tail is attached to.  So the back legs are atually at the point together under the tail.  Hope this makes sense.  I may put step by steps for the body if enough people participate but this requires a little effort from other members before i put it on..  Thanks for showing the picture.

Thanks for your feedback Thelma - the biggest problem was working out the anchor points and I suspect I probably used more balloons than necessary (I think it was 4 yellow, 1 chocolate brown, 1 black and 1 pink).  Now you've pointed it out, I see the mane anchors, and I'm going to give it another bash tomorrow in conjunction with your post.

Many thanks for taking the time and effort to feedback - much appreciated.  :)

Best wishes

This is nice.  Not such an echo in an empty room!  So Neil, I used one balloon for the head, one for the mane, one for the body, two for the legs and some scraps for the nose, dongue and tail.  I am going to make a smaller version now and see if I can get it down for a maximum of three balloons and then down again to two balloons.  The head is quite quick to make so a simplified body might make it a balloon for working with.  I was also thinking that if you don't want to use the triangular body for this model you could make a twist in the mane at the length you want it to stop and then make another bubble into the body so it takes that ear look away.  I will try it and post the picture.  I was hoping more people would have a go. Don't forget the models don't have to be identical but your versions of it.  I like the idea of the model evolving with every attempt and personality.  Perhaps I have not picked the best time to set this one because a lot of you will be busy with your Christmas rush.

I said I would have a go and here is my attempt   I really struggled with the head and then just as I finished one of the face bubbles went down  :o but it doesn't show too much
I had a go any way  :)

Ah - the Professor has this licked!  Excellent stuff!

Regrettably, I wasn't able to try this again today, but now I've got Thelma's clues, I'm definitely trying again -- be prepared for 'Son of Jaundiced Basset' sometime this week -it's going to look like a lion this time - it is, it is, it is....!   :D
