Colin Myles has written a little bio about David,

DAVID GRIST
Born in 1957 David had a variety of jobs before finding his true vocation working in the balloon industry, possibly most notably working as a roadie for the heavy rock group Def Leppard, and also for the Human League.

Whilst he was working as a supermarket manager he also did some part time magic at the weekends, it was while he was doing this someone asked if he also did balloon modelling, David immediately assured his prospective client that indeed he did despite never having twisted a balloon in his life, so began one of the most amazing careers in the balloon industry. David went to the library and found a balloon modelling book by Michael Decker, and the following week did his first paid job.

After his beginning in 1996 David decided that he would enter a balloon competition in 1997 At the then International Party Show true to form David won four awards at the show including the coveted Designer of the year award. David had arrived. After continuing success in the UK, in 2001 he felt the time was right to go to America to try his luck at IBAC then the most prestigious balloon event in the world; he received an unprecedented five major awards there including the entertainer of the year award.

After his huge success in competing he became a sought after instructor, teaching all over the world, including Korea, Japan, Australia, and all over Europe, he also toured America with one of the very first TJAM on the road events.

Davids' designs have lasted the test of time with flying colours his ride in race car, biplane, alien, and sword, plus many are considered absolute classics and sometimes the originator is now forgotten. David also produced nine instructional DVD's which are still available from http://www.balloonartwholesale.co.uk/balloons/dvds-books/ .

In January 2005 David sadly passed away, and while he departed far too soon his lasting legacy in terms of his contribution to the industry and the pleasure he brought to all who knew him can never be overstated
