Title: Conventions
Post by: Graham Lee on March 28, 2008, 10:42:35 PM
Been at the Doncaster juggling convention for two days as they have a small balloon convention attached to the main juggling convention.
The jugglers come from all over the world & just sign up to teach different classes, the one that caught my eye this year was making
musical instruments from vegtables, the carrott whistle looked good.
Will have to try & see if there is anything on you tube about this.
The twister instructore were,
David Crofts, Twistina, Michael from Ireland, Colin Myles & myself
with a varied selection of topics being covered.
As the majority of people that attend are the jugglers who get free entry when the sign up to the full
3 day juggling convention the classes are kept to begineer/Int.
Really had fun the first day catching up with everyone & going out for a meal.
Thoroughly enjoyed teching my two classes & having fun with the class.
I think the average class had about 15 people attending & they lasted for one & a half hours.
Talk is this may be held in Manchester next year.

It's nice to have a convention in the UK but as you said above there isn't much advance models going on as the jugglers get in free :(  we so need are own convention but with the turn out at Ralph's day (22 I think) how would it get financed? Graham do you have any pics of the day?

I took a few pictures, will have a look when I get back from my shows today.
We have chatted before about a balloon convention in the UK but the concern is,
is the UK ready for a twisting balloon convention? (All thoughts & views on this matter are most welcome)
We eventually got 27 through the door for Ralph, but to fund a small convention would need a lot more support.
If we all keep enthusiastic with the balloons, promoting them & showing people what can be done, then the snowball effect hopefully will happen.
Dont forget that nothing at all was happening in the Uk with balloons for twisters three years ago, so things can & I'm sure will move on to us having our very first stand alone balloon convention in the UK.

Its certainly something i'd be interested in - but of course as a hobby twister I would have to weight up the cost of the convention, how far i'd have to travel etc etc - but I think its a fabulous idea!

Hi everyone,
I am glad to hear such positive feedback about the juggling convention, it is the first time I have been there
and I too thought that it has a lot of potential, but mostly it was just great meeting up with a lot of old
friends and also meeting some new ones

Hi,

The idea for conventions is great, but what about trying to arrrange some jams to share some ideas, perhaps we can try and get some kind of local jam in our local areas???

I`m down in Bournemouth and i believe there are some twisters on this forum and others that may like the idea of an early pm jam???

What are all your thoughts??
