For those of you who haven't read my other posts, my name is jake and i am a 12 year old children's magician/ balloon twister living in Queensland, Australia

My current balloon stock is currently pretty small
I have around 800-1000 260's of various colours (character and carnival assortment plus pink)
And about 50 5 inch rounds

My normal quarterly balloon order goes along the lines of 750 carnival assortment, 400 character assortment , 100pk of pink and  100pk of five inch rounds. In australia using this website (http://www.balloonguy.com.au/Balloons.htm) this costs around $150

I was wondering how you (or how i should) build my balloon stock so it contains more colourful rounds and 360's and 160's and hearts and 321's and geos and 5 inch prints?

Being a 12 year old... Im not the richest person in the world, so buying them all at once is not really an option. Which of these would you reccomend buying first?

I was thinking getting a few bags of prints in my next order and then see how that goes.

Which of the other unique balloons that i mentioned would you use the most often? What designs do you use that use those balloons?

Having a bigger balloon stock ( i imagine) would mean more possibilities and better looking balloons. Is it really worth it though?

Hi young twister  ;)

Your color balloons choice depends a lot on what you mostly twist . You may be need the basic colors : red-blue-yellow-green-purple-orange-white-black-pink-brown-orange .

Boys love black/red/blue colors , girls love Pink a lot . So the colors can be ordered by 2 bags .

On the other side , colors used in your visual balloons menu are going influence a lot the colors u gonna take to twist .

I prefer buy per color ( too boring to sort ). I love have a big stock , not for having all colors but ... for the eyes of the children

Oscar.

ps: with your age your supplier should make you a discount ^^

It might be worth looking at buying from an overseas supplier. Your order would cost me about the equivalent of 90 dollars from a UK supplier. Don't be shy about asking for a trade discount. Of course there would be shipping to pay for and there would be the chance that the balloons would be subject to adverse temperatures in transit, but it might be worth it.

These days I wouldn't be without printed alien heads and 5 inch clear to do alien hitch-hikers; easy, fast and people absolutely love them. Red hearts are very useable for quickly adding zing to wands and hats. 5 inch blush for various heads. Those  would be my suggestions if your emphasis is on making balloons in front of people.

Best of luck. I wish I had discovered twisting at your age.

Thanks guys

I have looked at buying overseas but it all gets too hard with shipping being really expensive.
Maybe i could order twice a year and get 2-3 times as many as i normlly buy. That might be cheaper.

What is a trade discount? Seeing as it has the word "discount" in it, it sounds good!!!

Majake, I just looked at your balloon sellers web site and I see that they offer a 10% discount for a $1001.00 order.  Why don't you tell them that you are a young balloon artist who will probably become a famous balloon artist in the future.  Ask if they will help you out and give you the 10% discount on all your orders now, in order to help grow your business and your learning curve.  All they can say is either "yes" or "no."  It never hurts to ask.

I was involved in retail for many years and we gave discounts to many people for various reasons.  It is done every day.  Let us know what you find out!  And good luck!....Suzon   :D

I suppose it cant hurt to ask

I think its pretty funny how he offers 10% off orders over $1000, considering his prices are so high, i dont think anyone would order $1000 worth of balloons!

Keep a basic stock on hand. You might find yourself needing speciic colors for certain needs (ie Wintergreen is big around Christmas, Emerald green around St Patty's day.  One thing I have learned is Goldenrod is absolutely essential.

Hi everyone, fast forward almost a year and this is what my bag now looks like!

I have been adding stuff every order, first prints, then hearts , then solid color 5" rounds, 11" polka dots (for octopuses), lime geos, 160's, 350's and now my next order is containing 646's  :o

I if i could go back 10 months and answer my own question, i would say TIME is the only way. Building up bit by bit is the way to go.

Just thought i would let all you know how i am going :)
