The PDF Instructions

The PDF is supplied in full colour with plenty of photographs and is 28 pages long. I do unfortunately have an issue with these instructions. For a price tag at the higher end of the market (£8) I expect a quality set of instructions. These fall short in my opinion.

Whilst the photographs are plentiful, no bubble sizes are given. It is upto the reader to look at each photo and compare the size of each bubble alongside a green qualatex balloon pump also in the photo. For me this is wholly inaccurate and does require some guesswork as to the exact sizes. This may confuse the less experienced twister and certainly cause problems if you don't own a green qualatex pump!

The accompanying text with each photo is minimal, in fact too minimal. Many steps are just a sequence of photos that I found hard to follow and in a few places simply didn't make sense. I had to improvise and in some respects was lucky to come up with what I did.

I feel a little more thought could have gone into the PDF. It looks pretty but is sadly lacking from the previous quality PDFs I have reviewed.

On a plus side there are different variations given at the end of the PDF which is a nice touch.

The model itself

The end result is OK. The model hangs together fairly well and I did make a few adjustments of my own. It will work well as a delivery or decor piece and will get a nice response from the lay public.

My real issue here is the similarities between this 'nice' design and that of Shirley Ray's King of the Jungle. I'm sure I am wrong but whilst I was making it I had a feeling of Deja Vu for parts of the model. Checking the original design of Shirley's this does seem more than a coincidence.

So whilst it is hard to say (sorry for being honest) this lion to me is a reworked version of Shirley's design which actually detracts from the original.

For an £8 price tag I would expect more originality and certainly better instructions.

If you like the look of this lion then buy this PDF if you have the skills to work through the shortfalls of the instructions, and if you haven't seen Shirley's original I would check that out and make your own decision.

I have posted my final model and Shirley's original so you can see.

Remember, my job as a reviewer is to give a fair and honest review. If you don't like what I have to say then please post your own review and share your thoughts.
