Balloon Review 114 : Seagull by Patrick Van de Ven PDF

I absolutely love Patrick's work and for those of you who were lucky enough to attend his David Grist Memorial Lecture in 2013 will know what an incredible artist he is. Patrick released a DVD a few years ago (see review in this section) and I have been looking forward to future releases.

Patrick has now released his first PDF. This PDF can be purchased by messaging Patrick via his facebook page. Delivery via email was instant.

Let's see what we have here...

This PDF comprises of eleven pages with text and full colour photos. The instructions are very well written, easy to follow and bubble sizes are quoted in inches so if you want to you can measure every balloon!

This seagull teaches a technique for securing the grey part of the body to the main white 350Q balloon. This is an excellent technique and creates a really nice curved body shape which gives the seagull the right sort of character. With some imagination I can see this being used for many other designs. It will take a little practice but make sure the 350Q is nice and soft before trying.

The rest of the design is simple to make and given the simplicity it really shouldn't look this good.

Patrick gives some other ideas for the seagull at the end of the PDF such as making it into a hat or making it with larger balloons.

A really nice first PDF, a good balance of written instructions and photos, very good value for money and an original design.

I very much hope this will be the start of many new PDFs!
