Balloon Review 128 : Quicker with the Link Vol 2 by Nifty Balloons DVD

Available from http://www.niftyentertainment.com.au/?p ... category=0 priced $40 with FREE shipping.

As i stocked up on Q-links recently I thought I may as well crack on with Vol 2 of this collection. Can this DVD beat Vol 1 with the wonderful reindeer and boxing kangaroo!

Let's see what we have here...

SEAL

The face design for this Seal uses two Q-links joined together. This technique is used for several designs on this DVD and is very effective. The face of this seal is lovely. After taking my photo I realised I missed off the Seal's whiskers! The body is perhaps a little too thin. Every so, this is a lovely design with lots of character and a worth addition to your portfolio.

Danny the Idiot

MOUSE

In this mouse the Q-links are used to make the cheeks. With all these types of designs it can be a struggle to form bubbles at the front and back of the q-link. If i under inflate the balloons to make this easier then the cheeks do not look so good. I ended up just tying the rear of the q-links in this model which worked better for me. You will need to experiment to see what works best for you.

The end result is good. The mouse stands tall and I was able to make it stand on it's own. Next time I may use 260Q for the feet and legs to make it more chunky and sturdy.

This model was well received at a party I went to today.

GUINEA PIG

Sorry this one was hard to sit right for a nice photo. Not to sure about this one - doesn't really pass as a Guinea Pig but an interesting use of a q-link to form the head and body. I think this design has potential but not as a Guinea Pig.

HUMMINGBIRD

The Q-link makes for the perfect nose and body for a hummingbird - not made in Nicole's original colours. Fairly quick to make and a nice change from the usual bird designs. Well worth a look.

We all have our cross to bear, but some of us need more wood than others!

FISH

Another design using 2 x Q-Links joined together. This fish is pretty cool. Fairly quick to make and the eyes are neat. If you make the un-inflated ends of the 160Q eyes long you can use them to tie to the tail to keep the eyes in place with pressure.

It is easy to make variation of this design by adding different fins and tail designs.

SHEEP

This design looks better than the photo! The sheep is very quick using a q-link and an additional 5" round for the body and head. This design could be used for a variety of animals. This is fairly good but needs to be seen in real life to understand its potential.

FROG

The same head design is used for this frog. The body and feet of this frog are quite nice. The model sits on its own and is a fun character. From the side profile the head looks a little elongated and simply tying the q-links at the rear without making the pinch twists looks better in my opinion.

Not one for line work but overall a nice design.

SUMMARY

If you only have the budget to buy one of these two volumes then stick to volume 1 which in my opinion has a better set of models. This volume is nice and has some good designs but most of them use the same head design. The Seal is my favourite.

A good quality video, competent and easy to follow instructions - good value for money and worth a look if you want to experiment with q-links.
