Hello, I started not long ago decorating parties, I've had a few but has been the regular arch and columns, now for the first time they asked me to make a sculpture of a big cupcake, I've never done anything like this, I have an idea on how to do it, but I really don't know how, please please help me with this, I actually have to do it in 6 days so any tips or advise would be great...
here is a link of a  picture of what I need to get done, thank you!!!

I don't need it to be this big, something smaller would be fine.

Hi Patty,

this is only a little cupcake. The cup part of it was a white tulip twisted 646. To scale it up, you could weave a cup, and and use the same principal but with larger balloons for the cake part.

Hope this helps  :D
Kind regards
Kevin

Hi from the pictures you have shown I believe you may be after a super size cupcake if so the way I would go about it is to create several circles using this method //http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR6Cx5FILgo&feature=g-all-u&context=G2f2a44fFAAAAAAAAFAA and then fill in the middle with smaller balloons.

if you look at the finished flower it looks very much like the top of a cupcake. Make sure we see the photos when you are finished.

Roger

Hi

Here's a picture of a large cupcake sculpture I made a while ago.  Not my best piece (could have done with being a little more robust), but it lets you see what I was thinking - hope this helps

Thank you all soooo much, you guys are awesome and given me big help.. looking at your pictures I realized that I actually need something bigger... I thought about
using linkaloons but its to late for me to get them.. now I figured out the base of the cake with some wires but I can't seem to do the toping, I'm not sure how to attach them.. any suggestions??
Neil Drummon you have something very similar to what I need to do with the top, any tips please! thanks to you all!

Hi Patty

Hopefully I'm not too late with my reply.

The best way I've found to do this is to make a slight dome of chicken wire over the top of the lip of the cupcake, and then attach the pink balloons (in my pic) in duplets with paperclips, to the chicken wire at first, and then to the latex between the duplets as you build up the layers.  It's kind of tricky to explain without showing you, unless you know what I'm talking about  :?

I'm not sure where you're based, but if you're in the UK there are training courses available that teach the various techniques of large sculpture - Roger at iglobo (who posted earlier in the thread) creates fabulous sculptures using several different techniques, and he also teaches so I'd recommend any course he is teaching at.  Alternatively, I know Paul and Pam Pearce at balloonandtunes (also active on the forum) run great teaching classes for sculptures, and many other aspects of decor too.  (I feel like the BBC with the caveat though by saying 'other training courses are available' of course)  ;)

I hope this helps, and I'm sure you'll have a fab cupcake - remember to post your pics!  :)

You are just on time Neil, thanks for your help, I have to make this Saturday, I already run a test tried to make it and is looking good, I'm just having issues with the top
but I think I can manage, it's hard to explained what I used for the base, I could say it's sort of a chicken wire like you said but the squares are large but good to use, I find it pretty easy to use and sturdy.. I decided to put the base of my column inside and build up the cake I just don't want to spend more in materials...
Hopefully it will come out nice! will definitely show you the pics of final result.
Sadly I am not in the UK I'm from the US, florida, it is really hard to find courses here, and if there is one it is just really really expensive, I know is worth it but as I am just
starting I don't have much capital to invest, hope to do it soon,... so for now, I have balloon chat! =)
This place is awesome, thanks!!

Looks yummy Patty!  Well done!!!  The sprinkles make it too (isn't it funny how simple little extras make the all difference!)

Well done, Patty!  It looks great.

What sort of frame or woven balloon structure did you use to get the round cupcake cup look (in red).
