Title: New Year, New Competition, New Idea
Post by: Graham Lee on December 26, 2011, 10:26:56 PM
We are looking for some ideas for the new competition to start in the New Year; it was suggested about the game where you have to describe the song title with balloons.
Any other suggestions to try and get a few more people involved, we will be having a prize for the very fist competition of the year as I have been having a sort out and so far we have,
3 pumps
Yo Yo balloons and accessories
Qualatex Magicpipe
2 balloon kits
Vol 16 of Balloon magic as for some reason I have two copies of this volume
So far the star prize is a sausage dog pin to wear that is not available anymore and used to be available via IBS.
This is a must have and I have still to look through at least another 75% of my loft so there is bound to be even more prizes added to the pot.

How about a Dragon for Chinese new year which will be 23rd January 2012.

The year of the Dragon
"Horoscope 2012, forecast for the 2012 year of the black Dragon
The coming 2012 year of the water Dragon is just about the corner. The Dragon symbol of the 2012 year is an intelligent and laborious worker who never puts aside work though sometimes this leads him to excesses. The water Dragon has enough courage to face challenges and easily finds weak points that stand on his way to success."

I like the song title idea, maybe we culd add to that by doing balloon charades/pictionary?

Make a balloon or series of balloons and see who guesses it first, symbols are allowed but no words or letters, unless made from balloons... :ugeek:

You may have to think a little more laterally with the gun as to what it may do to you.

We need a competition for the New Year so that we can give away all the prizes, have just added a Qualatex calender for 2012 to the list.
So shall we have the competition as you have to make up a song/film/play title/nursey rhyme etc etc from balloons? It would be great to get everyone involved and having fun.

@Graham the competition idea is great !

I like your heart design with the gun very much.Would you please explain how to start twisting that great heart ??
Title: Re: New Year, New Competition, New Idea
Post by: Graham Lee on January 03, 2012, 08:50:56 PM
I have had a few people get in touch about the heart asking for instructions, it starts with 3 five petal flowers and then one more 260 to join it all up at the edges.
That was for the heart with the gun, the other hearts use an extra ballon to fill in the empty spaces and to make the heart fuller.
I will show how to make this at the Banstead Care & Share day on the 20th Jan in Banstead, booking details; http://www.balloonartwholesale.co.uk/catal ... -23-1.html (http://www.balloonartwholesale.co.uk/catalog/Care_Share_Days-23-1.html)

I tried it and it completely failed! Next time I am going to try and balloon-together some red shoes, not sure how successful it will be!

Does anyone know anything about parking on the day on the 20th in Banstead? Is there a carpark? Is it very expensive?
Title: Re: New Year, New Competition, New Idea
Post by: Graham Lee on January 06, 2012, 11:23:20 AM
There is plenty of free parking, thay have a large car park and all the roads have free parking around the area as well so no problems.
Can you post your effort? It will encourage others as well.

Just to start this up properly, the idea is to make a song/film/play title/nursey rhyme etc etc from balloons?  Anyone who enters will go into the draw to win loads of goodies that have been hanging about my loft for the past goodness knows how many years.
This was my effort, we have had  afew suggestions but as yet no one has got the title I was thinking off.

Hi Leslie, is it Grease ????

Here are some. (you must remember that I am ever so old, so the song titles reflect my era !!!!!! )

They are old photos, which I think represent song titles, but use your imagination on some. :D

YELLOW SUBMARINE (BEATLES)
SPLISH SPLASH (BOBBY DARIN, or CHARLIE DRAKE)
THE JOKER (STEVE MILLER BAND)
Title: Re: New Year, New Competition, New Idea
Post by: phoenix on January 10, 2012, 12:54:51 AM
Here are a few more, all songs.

It is probably cheating using old photos, so the last one I made up just now. I will try some new ones tomorrow  :D

I'M FOREVER BLOWING BUBBLES (WESTHAM UTD 1975 CUP FINAL SQUAD among others)
LADY IN RED (CHRIS DeBURGH).................Dress design by Sabina from Austria, love her ideas !!
LITTLE RED ROOSTER (HOWLIN WOOLF originally, but also others, including SAM COOKE, and best known, THE ROLLING STONES)

Check the background picture, guess which country could be.
The guy is from that country, and is dancing.
The title of the novel and the film contains the name and the origin of the guy.
The most famous scene of the film is when he is dancing.

I can't give more help...  :)

Hi Dan,

Quick update  :D

Graham, Ben, and Ab-Fab have all had good ideas, and all got some right

Outstanding ones are no.11, 12, 16, 19, 20, 22, 24, and 29

12 is quite an obscure song, but think of how you would feel if hit by a 10 ton weight
29 is tricky, 'cos it's a bit difficult to see what the loose bit is, but it is a bit more than 11 inches  :o  (Massive clue !!!!)

Have a great weekend  :D  :D

Finally what is the subject of the competition?
To twist a figure as a title of a song, film, etc., or to guess the title that the figure want to show?

Post by: Graham Lee on January 21, 2012, 12:15:11 PM
To twist the figure Leslie, only those who post a picture will be enetred into the prize draw at the end of the month.

Is no.20 - Whisky in the jar???

is no.24 - Mr & Mrs ?

and  . . .

29 - Footloose

Love them, well done!

I'll have to have a think and see if I can come up with something . . .

Great comp!

Here you go. It's a pretty rubbish design and not too difficult to guess, but I had a four year old trying to face paint me and twist balloon dogs at the same time!

And, without being morbid, it's my funeral song :) (I want people to be happy when they remember me, not sad!)

We have had a major problem with the forum when the extra work was being carried out the forum picture links all got corrupted and have had to be redone. He was working on this all day,
I am not sure if things are fixed as my internet has been down for two days and it takes over 5mins for every page to load up and it's driving me nutty, still these things are sent to try us.

I have been informed that all the pictures posted in the last 4 days will all have to be uploaded again so if anyone has put pictures onto the forum lately could you please add them again to the site for completeness, many thanks.

Ok here we go with some more. The first two are by the same artist/group and the third one, whilst seemingly an obvious song title, the real question is who sang it ??????

Fab Lisa,

Guess it must be Waterloo.....just love it !!!!

Far as anything else goes, you got Footloose...Ken Stillman's Balloon Click shows a great Cupid, and he shows the best foot I have ever seen, made from a 6"heart, so I may re-place the photo XX

Hi Kev,

Must be Black Swan....a film about rival ballet dancers, staring Natalie Portman.

Proff Twist, you've got me a bit stumped, I must put me thinking cap on ;)

Song 33
I know I shouldn't do any more song titles, but Kevin's film gave me this idea, a great song from 1970 :D

RIDE A WHITE SWAN (T-REX)
Title: Re: New Year, New Competition, New Idea
Post by: phoenix on January 27, 2012, 03:57:10 PM
Just had a flash of inspiration for the Professors song titles.

Are the first two Fleetwood Mac songs, "Albatros", and "The Chain"

The last one is "Angels" by Robbie Williams (The other Angels are just out of shot, so you can't see them, but I'm sure they are there)  :D  :D

Ooh Ooh I know this one... Ride a white swan - T Rex
Just recently I've been playing a lot with balloons and seem to have acquired a lot of scraps, so I thought I'd make use of them for one of the pictures. Good Luck ;)

Well done Kevin with the Fleetwood Mac ones but I'm afraid you are wrong about the artist of the third.
Ride a white swan by Marc Bolan and t-Rex.
Then I think we have red red wine written by Neil Diamond
dynamite by little miss dynamite
Baggy trousers by madness

Love your new take on Balloon Modelling Dan with Baggy Trousers  :D  :D

I just want to try putting up pics without re-sizing, so here goes. An easy one to start with. (Ooops, just got a message there are too many pixels in my image, so will re-size  :( )

The last one is there 'cos I had the picture up to send to a friend. I want the song title, who recorded it, and bonus points if you can tell me who it was written about  :?

TIGER FEET (MUD)
NO WOMAN NO CRY (BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY (STEVIE WONDER) about Martin Luther King

Hi All

I've really enjoyed this comp, there have been some great ideas coming out of it  :D  :D

I noticed that some of my earlier pics dissappeared with the gremlins in the site, so this is a link to all 36 ( I still can't believe that  :o ) pics.

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... ba17el3fa3 (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.285458191503990.62505.100001194336971&type=3&1=ba17el3fa3)

People from all over have been playing this on facebook, all 36 are there, but may be in a slightly different order  :?

As the comp ends at the end of the month, I will put ALL the answers up Monday   :D  :D  :D

Loving the photos, some amazing work.
I really need to start posting more as some off my best models are inspired by forums.
England are hosting the olympics this year so how about an olympic challenge? we could also have Gold, Silver and Bronze.
So list would be fastest (filmed), longest, tallest, flags, underwater and different events. We could also give kudos to the country that makes the winning model? Each one has to be a separate competition but the first one has to be the opening ceremony.
Each competition would be open for 4 weeks but we will start 1 a week.
BTW a little confused over this thread should it not be a different thread for the music/ film guessing? plus are we competing on this one? if so I'll start posting photo's. I love the idea of doing famous faces I so need to get back to working on that.

Hi all this is Fiona's Entry

Despite my very limited ability I have decided to get into the spirit of the forum and enter the competion lol.

I am hoping the green balloon is easily identifable, however, I know that the gray one may be very difficult to work out lol All I will say is even though it may look like some very sick pork sausages......that is not what it is.

Thank you very much

You are right yippee....the rock was a bit dubious so well done.

I have looked through your submissions and they are very impressive, I can only aspire to reach your twisting standard.

Hi all This Phoenix's Entry

Hi Fiona,

Thank you so much for your kind words, so glad you like my balloons

The lovely thing about us bonkers balloon people is the sharing of ideas, and the willingness to help each other, which comes across in this forum, and helps us all get better and better.

Here is a little tip for your crocodile, which I hope you will like

Still using one balloon for the body, just alter the head a little, by using two bubbles for the snout, and make the eyes like dog ears.

Then you can wrap a string of little bubbles from a scrap of 160, and give him some teeth.

Hope you like this idea !!!!!

I've just had an idea :o  :o

When twisting at events during the summer, like most people here I have albums of my more detailed sculptures for the Parents to look through, while waiting in line. This gets me bookings for other events, and delivery pieces.

How about an album of song title pictures for the Mums and Dads to look through, and keep them entertained while they are waiting  :D

If anyone here wants to do this, you are very welcome to use any of my photos you may like to make up an album
