As Balloon Chat, settles down to a more tranquil period (I hope) I would like to throw down a gauntlet and offer as a prize my set of three DVD's as my previous offer was refused, ( I know I know, a Scotsman giving something away free TWICE !!!! )
The challenge I would like to set is a theme of Peace.
I want this to be for everyone so please state how long you have been doing balloons for and how much experience you have, the latter can be less than the former !!!,
I will be away for a couple of days from tomorrow. I would like to close the competition next wednesday the 14th April, which I would like to name international balloon peace day.
I really do want this competition to be open to every one, so ideas will be weighted as heavily as technical expertise, and I will ask Graham if he can help find a winner

perhaps I'm being thick but what is the competition? To make a balloon sculpture on the theme of peace? Or to come up with a title for a balloon peace day?

I'll give it a go - can't afford to buy DVD's. I'm not a professional, just hobbyist. I've done 1 party for a friend a fundraiser for nursery and made models as gifts. Been twisting for nearly 2 years. I made this dove bracelet for my son when we went to a local peace event. I also made an anti trident hat but didn't get a photo of that!

Well I was wondering if Colin should extend the deadline till the end of the month so that a few more may have time to post some entries.
I don't mind - that will save me a late night tonight!

How about finding out how many are planning to post an entry on Wednesday Graham?
As it is a world peace theme, I have ordered some Qualatex Globe print balloons, and am waiting for them to arive before I can post my idea.
If they don't arrive in time, I will post my entry made with an ordinary round balloon as a stand in, but I hope the globe balloons will be with me by wednesday.

Oh man! Up against Martin and Kevin, Oscar's already up to 55 dogs, a cool weaved alien and Darren still to declare his hand... Gulp - gonna need to to rethink somewhat my paultry flower effort I had considered then :oops:

I will extend the deadline, I was going to say the ebd of march but I will be on holiday then,
( having some PEACE and quiet) I get back on the 5th April, so if it okay with everyone

I was looking forward to an Ebay end... as i have got my entry ready, may as well post it now.
Can we get more than one entry ? no one said only single entry's. as Graham say's " lets improve our art ", i suggest if post ready go ahead and do not wait to last moment, share it!!
Colin you asked, for experiance and how long twisting.
started Aug 2011, done a few party's with a party company ( very young kids, so no technical balloons required ). still consider myself at hobby stage as not set up as myself in business. I've been living on youtube tutorials, and thanks to all who have posted them, been a great inspiration. I now need to step up a gear and your DVDs would be great.
but as always comments/ feedback welcomed.

can i ask, is the wings done with a diamond weave, with extra balloons weaved into gaps , vertically ?

I must admit I had forgotton about this (Sorry Colin :oops: ) until I got a call from the balloon shop saying "why havn't I picked my balloons up yet !!"
I will collect the ones I wanted for this tomorrow, and post then :D

Nothing too profound, but I just like the idea that if peace does break out around the world, then without predudice of colour or creed, it will be the teddy-bears that unite us :D

And a last minute entry from me - not that I am playing any tactics, it's just taken me this long to have the confidence to post anything! Whilst I have been twisting for several years on the whole it has been copying the work of others. So this is new experience for me.
In essence, this balloon represents peace for many reasons. Obviously I have used an angel, a lit candle for hope, a dove perching upon a heart (that's the shape the red 160 is supposed to be) all mounted on a geo-cloud.
Phew - i've done it - good luck to everyone - and well done to everyone who has posted a design.

The judges have discussed the entries and I need to contact someone, I have phoned and left a message, emailed them and sent a PM and as yet they have not got back to me so we are at this stage unable to announce the winner. So could all those that entered please check your answer machines, inbox and PM facility and then possibly get back to me ASAP so that we can confirm the winning entry.

Yes I also ordered my copy last week and as yet no sign of it, I expect I'll get around to viewing it sometime in 2013 as I have still to view the limited edition set that I purchased from Don Caldwell and I've had that a few months now. I'm looking at things to show for the Leeds day at the moment as that is only a few days away now, you can see I'm well organised, not.
