I have managed to secure a really top star price to be offered to members, it does not matter where you live, everyone can join in to win the STAR PRIZE.

First we have to sort out a competition so that we can get a winner, so suggestions for a competition to win a truly excellent well worth winning
STAR PRIZE that only comes along once in a blue moon.

Suggestions welcome.

Can you tell us the Star Prize then we can work out the best competition... how about giving it to the person with the highest number of posts (but you can't enter) - that sounds perfect

This sounds really interesting.

I like FuDD's idea, but whatever the concept for the competition is, I really think that something open-ended would be the best, just so we can see how different people interpreted the concept.  So instead of an "Ancient Wonders of the World" theme (where I imagine creative options would be limited to Colossus of Rhodes and Sphinx/pyramid sculptures), you could simply call it "Man's Accomplishments" and while balloon twisters could still build those fun ancient structures, there would also be room for them to make space shuttles, Henry Ford's assembly line, Newton being struck with an apple, etc. etc.  My $.02.

Ooooo!  That sounds intriguing!

Song titles.  you have to build a balloon to match a song title.

I'm game for anything!

How about having a competition where the end result benefits this wonderful on-line community. So rather than having the usual collection of photos for people to look at and admire (and some people just raid their collection of pre-made models rather than make something specifically for the competition, here are some random ideas....

a) share a business or marketing tip along with detailed 'how-to' instructions
b) publish an original routine somehow associated with ballooning (however small or indirect) whether suited for a show or for interacting with guests when twisting or working a line
c) share a model and include detailed 'how to' instructions with photos.
d) tell everyone what the prize is and have a raffle (say £5 per ticket - no limit on the number of entries), all proceeds go towards funding TBAG for next year.
e) Everyone who signs up to a direct debit scheme or pays in full upfront for 2013/14 TBAG membership by the end of November is eligible to enter the free draw for the prize.
f) Auction the prize to the highest bidder with 50% going to the Grist Family and 50% to TBAG.
g) Offer the prize to one of the winning categories in the first ever Balloon Chat Awards 2012 - best new member, all-round talented artist, contribution of the year, funniest moment of the year, TBAG lecture of the year  - some just chosen by Graham, some voted for by forum members.

Darren you have been busy with ideas and all pretty good. Not sure what to do at the moment, maybe we could discuss at the ED Chee day, the competition will not be a make a (xyz) and then we vote on the best model as this makes it difficult for the newer twister. So we need to put our thinking cap on and come up with something everyone can join in with and makes it more for everyone as you suggest.

Love all of Darren's ideas, except the auction to the highest bidder.  All the others are great!

The raffle idea is good because it levels the playing field for beginner and experienced twisters.  I would put a limit on how many one person could buy, just to keep it fair.

So excited to hear what the prize is!

Hi all.

Looking at all the ideas so far i feel they are all good...

But if this prize is big enough then we should create a competition that is big enough, well big enough to start a bit of news in the balloon world!!

What I was thinking was maybe create a new balloon twisting technique, style, twist, knot etc... and make a sculpture using this new technique to show how it will work in the real world.

Now one would say "this is too much of a chore"...but let me tell you this, which a lot of you already know!! The best artists stumble across an amazing new technique all the time.

This would also be an opportunity for the winner to get their new technique out there and maybe even get used by many people for years.
My Thoughts..

I'm just wondering if this is still in play?  Graham started the thread, but hasn't commented in over a month.  I'd still love to see something happen.  Just curious.

LOVE the idea, Kenny.

I would love to know what the prize is - I hope whatever the competition is, it will allow everyone of all ballooning standards to participate.

Yes it is still on, we have been busy here there and everywhere lately and I'm off to Thelma's this week for a few days of twisting.
The prize is a one to one with one of the worlds leading balloon artistes, and yes the competition needs to be for everyone no matter the skill level or how long anyone has been twisting.
