Balloon Chit Chat / Re: Top Balloons for Line Work
April 04, 2013, 01:03:41 AM
Hitchhiker Alien
Medium-fancy dog
Caldwell's Ladybug
Teddy bear
Penguin
Alligator

That's a tough list. For my real suggestion, go to balloon-animals.com and check out his 1 balloon video instructions. Then learn his 2 balloon sculptures. The got me through my first event with flying colors.

When a kid asks for a rifle - or any gun - I ask their parents if it's ok. It their parents aren't around, they have to choose something else. I've had two parents tell their kids to pick something else, the rest haven't minded.

Actually, the event I was doing where I originally came up with this (and then made at least 10 more) was a Police Station open house. I figured a lot of the kids their were related to the police in some way, or maybe just wanted to be a policeman someday. I made the tutorial because I just made this last weekend at a Rec center Easter Egg Hunt. When I finished it, I got a round of applause.

I do think your over thinking this. I don't think people mind. If you're not making certain kinds of weapons because you have a personal feeling on the issue I totally understand that and have some very close twister friends who feel the same way. But if your reason is that you think other people at the event will be offended I would test the waters to see the reaction.

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Rifle with Scope Tutorial
April 03, 2013, 11:01:29 PM
Just posted another tutorial video:

It is a fairly simple rifle that I do while line twisting. I will leave the Scope off if I am busy as it will save one complete balloon and make the initial twisting easier.

Balloon Chit Chat / Re: Using my Promo Pics

Quote from: "David Brenion"3. Kenny brought up the issue of piracy.

To this point, David posted pictures of his Jumbos a year ago. I took the concept and started to make a bunny out of it. I emailed my photos to him privately asking for constructive criticism and he generously shared the Bunny he was already perfecting - which is what appears on the new Video. I used that to totally revamp my piece.

By the time his DVD was available, I already had the How-to  but I bought it anyway because I wanted to support David's many contributions to the industry.

In short, David tried to Pirate his own material to me but I took the high road and bought it anyway. Better luck next time David!  ;)

I just posted this tutorial of an intermediate - but very fast - Sonic bracelet.

//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agS5OU-9E7s

I titled it "easy" in YouTube but I should have said quick.

I was inspired by a picture that was recently posted by Michael at Balloon-animals.com. His was a very detailed, full figure of Sonic but it reminded me of all the times I've been (or almost have been) requested for a Sonic and knowing I didn't have a fast and/or good one. Well I got off my but and designed one and Now I do have one to offer.

Enjoy.

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Re: Panda
April 03, 2013, 07:59:13 PM
I just posted instructions for a Panda on YouTube:

//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPe0tfMy6FQ

It's very quick.
1 - 350 Black
1 - 350 White.

You can use 260's if you want but I recommend using three passes of white 260 for the belly if you do. I think 350's are faster for this design.

Thanks,

I tucked some real dollar bills in his bikini strap and wrote my friend's name, (fake) phone number, and "Call Me" on there.

She got a big kick out of it.

It was a friend's 41st birthday this past weekend so I made her a birthday balloon.

The face is a Jack Mattson design.
The body is based on Ken Stillman's superhero body with a couple extra muscles...and a bum.
The bum is made from 2 5" rounds. Niko-looned together through a sidewall connection. (connection was at halfway point between middle and bottom of round).
The blue balloon is a heart with the lobes pointed up for "added" effect.
To keep the legs in close, the thighs have a sidewall bubble just below the blue balloon and that is pulled in using an un-inflated 160.
The feet are hearts.

I am trying to make a pretty gold that is opaque. I'm using 260Q gold stuffed with various 160Q's.

Here is a picture with the results side by side.

I've used (left to right):Yellow, Goldenrod, Mocha Brown, Grey, Chocolate Brown.

I also tried orange & rose, they both looked good but both were too orange for what I'm after.

Balloon Chit Chat / Make Me a Bike Clown!
December 12, 2011, 01:30:43 PM
I think we've all heard that line ad nauseum. Although it wasn't a bike request, the sentiment was the same.

When I make balloons I work off of requests. Last night a 7 year old boy (who was sitting next to his teenage brother) asked for the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  I told him I could make it but it's not fun to play with and asked if he'd prefer something to have fun with. NOPE.

I made the Leaning Tower of Pisa for him. It was a caterpillar body out of Ivory 260's (5 loops), put it on a 350 green base, drew some windows. Not fancy.  I should have just used a 350 on a base and made it crooked.

While I was making it, I asked him, do you know what the Leaning Tower of Pisa is? "mmm, no."

Ugh! Whatever. He waited the time, he got what he asked for.

@hyper1234,

I had a request for Rudolph at a long-line event. I remembered your post but couldn't quite remember the exact bubble arrangement. I ended up making a version of your reindeer.

I left the upper ears off, this left enough brown balloon to be the handle of the puppet (puppet, n. fancy way of saying "head on a stick"). For the antlers/eyes, I used an Ivory Silk or White 260. Start with the end of the antler, 4" bubble, 1" pinch, shape a 10" bubble, connect to the pinch twist at the top of the head, make the two eyes and duplicate the antler for the other side.

It was a really simple, 2 balloon + nose scrap, reindeer.

Thanks for the inspiration.

I did have a kid ask for one with legs, I made the head much smaller but the same design. I used a 160 white for the anters/eyes. I used the extra white to go from the neck across the belly and make a white tail.

I'm not sure if I should place this in Christmas balloons, headbands, or Christmas tree challenge.  :)

I showed up to twist at a birthday party in a bowling alley. They said, "We have the perfect spot for you" and showed me to the darkest corner in the entire place. It was pitch black as the used blacklights and neon balls to make bowling more fun for the kids. I thought I was toast until I remembered the Flashlight App on my phone. I used my phone's belt clip to clip it to the the lip of my bag, facing inward on my balloons. IT WORKED AWESOME.

I would like to have a better setup. I saw a clip with ~30 LED's on it. I think I'm going to get that and keep it handy for situations that arise.

I have a birthday tomorrow. They requested the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars.

I wanted to make it a ride inside balloon because...well, it's more fun.

Here's what I came up with.
