Balloon Chit Chat / Balloon show for children
May 08, 2021, 04:05:52 PM
Since I started ballooning, I was never interested in anything else. However I keep seeing people doing kids shows for birthday parties with magic and music and stuff. I was just wondering if there is a market for a guy making balloon models in the corner or wandering around. Or if there might be such a thing as a balloon show. I've not touched a balloon in two years due to life, children, and a pandemic. I'm going get back into learning models.

Is there somewhere I could learn or buy a balloon show blueprint from?

Balloon Chit Chat / Balloon puppets?
September 29, 2017, 08:37:29 PM
I know of the two designs (Snake, and Killer whale) by M Floyd, but does anyone else know of how I could make a balloon puppet?

Wasn't sure where to post this, so I hope its okay here. I've been contacted about doing a birthday party on 27th August. I'm not too confident that I'd know what to do at such an event really, plus I can't make the date. So any of you guys here want the gig, I'll pass your details on if you'd be so kind as to send me your phone number or Facebook page/website details. Many thanks, Ben

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Eyes
August 06, 2017, 04:35:28 PM
For a couple of models I make I take a 5" round, put a puff of air in, and twist that in half which is great for those models. However, before I had a break from twisting while my daughter got settled in I did a couple of one off models that required the eyes to be done differently - taking a 260 and inflating a small section of it. I cannot for the life of me remember how to do this however.
I did it for a 350 teddy that had a 160 nose joined with an apple twist. the eyes fit just behind the bubble holding the nose in.

Any help?!

Balloon Chit Chat / Craft stall set up?
August 02, 2017, 12:53:44 PM
I have been to a few craft stalls to twist balloons, the last one was in a big marquee with old wooden tables. All the stall holders had lovely cloths, some with logos on to put over the tables. However I didn't. It didn't affect the models I put out, but it didn't look good. What do you do in this situation?
Finally, in situations with lots of children, or special needs children who don't always understand how they should be behaving, how do you stop them pinching displayed models, or balloons that are not yet inflated?

Many thanks

Balloon Chit Chat / Printed balloon instructions
July 18, 2017, 05:08:22 PM
Hi,
I've been asked to provide a balloon workshop for a children's holiday club which I'm really excited about. So I've got an hour to teach about 13 or so children how to make a few things. However I would like to leave them with some instructions on how to make a few simple things. I'm aware its highly illegal to photocopy pages from a book I have - so does anyone have any suggestions on how to create a step by step PDF I can copy and hand out for these children. Or in fact does anybody have something like this already I could have or potentially buy? Many thanks

Balloon Decor / IKEA NOT lamp
May 25, 2016, 02:26:26 PM
When I looked on the idea website, all I can see for the not lamp is an up lighter with a reading light coming off it. Is the lamp everyone uses? Or is there one without the reading light?
How do you convert it from up lighter to balloon base? Does it require weighting to hold it steady?
If I wanted to create an arch, what could I use to bridge the gap at the top?
Sorry for all the questions, I'd like to try out a bit of decoration!

Many thanks

Hi balloon folks - I haven't done any ballooning in a while. We had a baby (born two weeks late on new years eve) I made my first balloon since she was born - just a simple deely-bopper hat thing. I want to challenge myself  and would like to make at least one balloon model every day som I can improve my knowledge etc. I'm looking for 3 or so minute models to make. I have the beating book, and a few of grahams DVDs, which I'm going to try and work through, but if you could suggest specific models I could try, or youtube, and online instructions etc, that would be great.

Many thanks!

Balloon Tutorial & Help / 260 sidewall?!!
December 01, 2015, 06:38:32 PM
Hi, I saw this thread 123-alien-pdf-dylan-gelinas-t9262.html

Its the coolest thing i have ever seen so I bought the PDF, I know its hard, but I like to stretch myself - if you don't try something, you won't improve! Anyway - so I need some practice with measurements and I might try using a ruler for this guy. However as the title states, its the sidewall bubble I'm having difficulty with. I made the head of the Alien, but I actually, cheated and tied an uninflected 160 as an attachment point. Needless to say it didn't really work. Soon, how do you do it> Does anyone have a video of the technique? I have made a sidewall bubble in a 646 that was unattached to anything, but this is something totally different. I guess I could put a scrap inside next time and make a raisin, but I would like to be able to do the sidewall bubble.

Many thanks, Ben

Balloon Chit Chat / Bubble sizes
November 28, 2015, 07:09:37 PM
When following instructions - two terms of measurements seem to be used, fingers, and inches. Now fingers are easy to understand. We all have them. However, when it comes to inches, how exactly to you make this accurate without getting a ruler out. I've never seen a twister with a ruler. How do you gauge inches whilst twisting?

I'm pretty sure I'm in love with ballooning, twisting first and foremost but I have also enjoyed making a column or two. I realise I am still a noob compared to the majority on here but I have enough models for line work. Plus a few larger ones for gifts etc. I would very much like to have a go at earning from this. However I have no real idea of how to get started. I have a business card, and a few friends who have bought models from me. I'm a music teacher and as such rely on word of mouth. However that won't cut it with balloons I imagine?

Balloon Chit Chat / Qualatex princess hearts
October 05, 2015, 11:36:28 AM
I was wondering if somebody would be so kind as to tell me who the princesses are on the hearts and which colours are they? I am talking about the mixed disney princesses - no the frozen anna and elsa. Many thanks, Ben

Picture Gallery / What I've been up to.....
September 10, 2015, 10:56:37 AM
Here are a few photos of balloons I have made recently. As somewhat of a newcomer to the sport of balloon wrestling I'd really appreciate some feed back on these. Sadly, they are all from instructional DVDs or youtube.

First is a tarantula and a web I made for a friends birthday (he keeps tarantulas, so its not as bizarre a request as you may think!)

Next are a go a few 'lootles' (not sure what that means exactly, but they are from Robbie Furmans DVD)
The first one was from 260s and I made a little ukulele from a 160 with a pipe cleaner inside (he went to live on the counter of a friends music shop!)

Finally a larger 'lootle', from 350s. I had to use two balloons for the head and two for the body as I couldn't manage to do it with just one.
Although he's quite cute, I'm not too happy about him because his head only tips backwards, I can't get him to face forwards (any tips with this would be great! - Maybe I could try adding a neck somehow?
I got a little creative with his moustache and thought he looked like a strong-man so I made a little dumb-bell for him! He would look better if he had hands but need to re-watch the DVD to se how to make them.!

Balloon Chit Chat / Balloon Dress
September 08, 2015, 12:53:21 PM
I'd like to have a go at making a balloon dress, but don't want to feel like I wasted my time or the balloons after making it. So planning ahead, I've been searching for fashion shows in my local area - can't find anything. So, do you guys have any suggestions of what I could do with it, or where I could show it off?

Before anyone suggests it, nope. I'm not going to wear it myself!

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Spiders?
August 14, 2015, 01:31:29 PM
I'm looking for a spider design - I'm being quite picky about it, mostly due to the friends I have. Lots of them keep tarantulas! I'd like to be able to make a large spider balloon and have it quite realistic looking. I don't feel I'm able to have a go and try and work out one myself. DO you have a spider design you would be willing to share that looks realistic (as far as balloons go!), and is quite large, or could be made quite large?

Thanks in advance.

I am currently tearing my hair out with a model I hoped to post on here today however part of it requires a sidewall bubble on the lobes of a 6" heart. I can make the twists, however upon doing so, the latex gets holes in it and leaks air. I have tried to make 4 balloons this way and lost each one of them. what am I doing wrong? Over stretching and over twisting? I thought latex was capable of taking more than a few stretches and twists!

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Small dog head/face
August 10, 2015, 11:13:31 AM
I had a go at a dog face for a bottle topper today - This is my first attempt at making any kind of animal without following a tutorial. I had some inspiration of what I wanted to achieve from youtube. but as you can see it doesn't sit quite right on the bottle.
I think i need an extra pinch twist at the back maybe so the cheeks/jowels down and the eyes up.  I think maybe his lower jaw is a bit too big as well. Any tips/help?
