Has anyone any thoughts on the best section to advertise in Yellow Pages. I am also a magician so I am after both children's audiences as well adults.

My initial thoughts are that for corporate bookings, their first call may be to the Entertainer section.

I suspect the entertainers section will be less full and cheaper which , if someone looks there rather than the Children's entertainment section you stand more chance of getting a booking.  However, I suspect you will not get any kids parties unless you advertise in that section as there will be quite a few to choose between so most will look no further.

If you can stretch far enough see if you can put an ad in both - they may even do a deal if you take out 2 ads.

I advertise under Children's entertainer but that's what I do most!
Found the yellow pages in the Durham and Sunderland area work well but I once advertised in Peterborough's yellow pages and only got 4 calls the whole year. Strange??!!

I have an advert in both sections. It's really frustating that YP split the entertainers section into two. It's just more money for them as many here, like me, have put an ad in both sections.

When they first split them, I asked quite a few friends to look for an entertainer for their child. It was pretty much 50/50 as to where they looked. Trouble is, if you are only in one section, you could be losing half your potetial bookers if they went to the oposite section of what you choose.

My main ad was in Discos but you can get the ad repeated in another section for a lower charge - so I had it in childrens entertainers too.

Unfortunately I never mo nitored what work came from what section - I just kept track of all YP generated work

A thought has occurred - as a business you are entitled to a free line entry in YP in the section of your choice - would it be possible to have your free entry in the minor section and a paid for entry in the section you expect to get more business from?

We too got annoyed by the split and saw it as just an excuse for Yp to earn extra revenue - but hey that is their business selling advertising, one answer is to have a small box advert in the one section saying "See our main Advert in .......... "
