Hello!

I'm looking for a balloon modeler for a local residents association that is hosting a living nativity.

Its low paid but should be nice especially for a modeler starting out and wanting experience, balloon costs covered plus a bit more.

If you've got a Christmasy costume as well you would be perfect!

 :)

Can I ask what a little bit more would be and the hours you are after?

The fee is a little low for the time required and it's also a very busy time of year.

Of course it depends on how much you claim for 3 bags of balloons!

well i did clearly state at the begging that it was low paid and suggested that it might be a good option for someone starting out wanting experience. im not trying to hide anything. I certainly didnt expect sarcasm in response! i thought the balloon community was supposed to be nice to one another?

When I first started out every one was nice and every one would help every one now it's cut throat now the only way you get help or praise is to be In The in crowd

I would disagree with that. I have only been twisting for about a year and have found the vast majority of people encouraging and willing to advise and share advice freely. Even as a very new twister myself I was helping people and showing them my designs at the Jam yesterday.

However I think many twisters regularly get asked to work for free or very cheaply. It is our job and we need to pay bills and look after our families.

What a shame that some have taken offence in the past and believe that there is an in crowd. Perhaps criticism can be taken the wrong way and has been in the past. I have found everyone here to be helpful and honest and yes, sometimes that can seem harsh, particularly in text but I am sure in person, this would come across differently.
I have met no one on here and possibly never will but perhaps negative comments such as the above result in people wondering why they should continue the good will (which may be a factor in Graham perhaps not continuing to provide this free service that many of us thoroughly enjoy and are able to connect with like minded people in a friendly way.
As I tell the kids, you don't have to play with folk if you don't want to but don't spoil their game either.
Kindest Regards
Stuart

Unfortunately posts can be taken the wrong way when you don't know the person behind the post. Dr Balloonman (Normski) is one of the most helpful balloon guys I know and his comments I'm sure were only meant in good humour.

The 14th December is one of the busiest days in the calendar and many people would have been booked up for months but as you say, if someone is starting out and wants a bit of practice then it is ideal.

As too is Children in Need tomorrow or maybe making balloons for the Philippines Disaster.

Everyone here is helpful and friendly.

p.s. who is in the in-crowd and how do you gain access to the exclusive club. I am the 2nd highest poster on these forums (after Graham) and I didn't know the in-crowd existed - who is in it?

Hi Kattitude, I think you are right there was a little sarcasm in the replies. It is difficult to get the tone over with just the written text.
There have been many posts where people are looking for an entertainer and paying very poorly and when we have the balloon days this is discussed a lot.
Perhaps your thread for help could have been answered my sympathetically but I will now stand up tall and say that the balloon community "IS" definitely a very friendly and giving community most definitely 100% with no argument.

It would be nice to meet up at a care & share or balloon day somewhere and then I'm pretty sure you will agree or maybe stick around the forum a little, we are a friendly bunch, honestly  :)

Craig could you elaborate a little on your "click"? I appreciate when people get together at the days little groups form due to many things, friends, age, common interest etc plus some of us have known each other from year dot. I always go up and chat if there is a newbie at the days and see what their ability is and if I or someone else should sit at the back with them to help if the lecturer is going to fast or just for a helping hand. We all have a love of the latex and that is a bond in itself, look at my trip to Germany Eur-jam, it was difficult to get to the venue, Gabriel who I had only ever met once offered to drive me the three hours form the airport.
In case no one is sure, I LOVE THE BALLOON COMMUNITY and will stand up and be counted.
