Keep paying for the number and use call divert to your new phone or a friend had the calls transferred from the exchange which I believe worked out a bit cheaper.

Do you only use your landline or do you have a mobile on your business cards / advertising? If you have a mobile too then if they cannot get through on the landline no they can always try the mobile.

Failing that you can make an announcement on your website / facebook page to let customers know your new number, get new business cards etc with the new number on and change as many listings on line as you can find.

If I specifically wanted to book you and I tried to call a number on your card or flyer which was disconnected etc I would immediately call your mobile (should it be listed), email you or look on your website to find out if the number I had was correct.

Years ago (I used to be a manager for a cable company) you used to be able to ask some network companies to keep your number with them and pay the rental, even though it wasn't in the same house. The number would just be diverted to your new one.

I would try that option and maybe keep it for a couple of years, in the meantime as Yvonne said, change everything you can to your new number, knowing that if you've missed anything/anyone they can still contact you for the next couple years.

If the cable company say no, ask a friend if you can transfer it to their house and again, divert it.

We cant have cable, but when we moved and could not move our BT number we had a service where if the number was called it just diverted to new number for a while ( expensive) then changed to if yourang thenumber it gave a message saying the number youhave called has changed to..... at about £25 a 1/4

Do cable offer that service?

Hiya,

Yeah, I do have a freephone number - it's with Utility Warehouse, I got it with a broadband package I used to have with them and have kept it up since leaving the broadband service.

I've had many people ringing up because of the freephone number alone, so I keep it going. If you want to be canny with it, you just take their number as soon as they ring and call them back (I actually get free landline calls so it keeps the time v cost factor down), plus then you always have their number if you need to chase them up.

if you are still looking for solutions what about buying an 0845 number?
Very cheap and can be directed to any number you like - at least it will avoid the same thing happening again in the future

Julie  :D  how are you?
I have gone for a local code but works the same way.
Price one off fee £25 for set up then it's pay as you go.
if I have calls routed to a land line it's 2p a minute and routed to mobile 12p. instant redirect and I can take it anywhere.
