Oke Graham,
Normally I look at a design and then I know how it's been created, but......not this time!  :o
I already thought that I would ask you the instructions at TMJ in november, when I saw those flowers the first time.
But now you made is as a challenge.... :x

So, I'll take this months challenge and jump into this design. Give me some days,........

I should have looked better, I looked at the first picture of the flowers and suddenly saw that it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
I created 2 variations. My first attempt was the yellow/red one, the second one is made a little different.

My 7 year old daughter tried it also, but she thought it was to hard.
So she made a simple flower for me, becourse I did it:

It's a bit uncanny that Petra & Roger made the flower out of exactly the same colours, you should both start a mind-reading act  :D

for the 8 pink petals flower, there is one or two balloons

Hihi,.... only I used neon green,  but that was becourse I have not much lime green anymore, so I wanted to keep those

I played even more with the flower design. I like it a lot.
Made a variation with just 1 160 for the flower, that gives a nice effect also.
Like all those things, it's easy when you know how!

 Nope not all the things I  make remain a secret,....only the butterfly

The 160 version looks a lot like the other one's so it iss'nt real special.
Didn't you already tried that also?

Lucky for me, I had a balloon delivery to make up so I added this month's challenge to it. I like a mish-mash of different flowers so I didn't copy over the entire piece as made in the original post - I just made the flower that seemed to be highlighted.

The string of ladybugs is an idea by Patrick, I've added them while line twisting if it's reasonable slow and someone asks for a flower.

First try, made from 5 balloons. No sense of colour. Those pinks are precious to me, so I never use for practice or jamming.

Here's my version - made from 2 balloons + a green scrap for the stalk.

I wasn't particularly excited about this month's model before I tried it, but on reflection it has probably helped me with my twisting more than anything I have made previously and so I am really pleased...  :)

So Graham... it's July 28th and already August's model is completed by several forum members. Are we having another August model, or should I just try to crack the vaseful?

Magicseb,
Sorry only just seen your question about the 8 petal flower, it's made from one balloon.

It's great that a few are attempting the flowers & challenging themselves but so far only Petra with her 160 & the larger 2 balloon pink & blue, has got the overall effect of the flower right.
If you take a closer look especially at the all pink flower in the middle of the arrangement & the lilac & ???, the flower back left. They have some depth to the arrangement.

Just had a quick count and five members have joined in with this months challenge although it's still early days, so let's try & encourage a few more to have a go as well  :)  ;)

Yeah... just had a look. I think to achieve that I would have to reduce the size of my front bubbles and increase the size of the return bubbles that run to the centre on the back of the flower.

Does that sound along the right lines?

Martin.

second attempt.

I realized, after looking at the photo a little closer that the interior bubbles are recessed compared to the side/exterior bubbles. Here is my second go at the flower.

Also, made this one with 1 yellow 260 and 1 blue 260 (and 1 lime green 160). On my first attempt I started it just like the woven birthday cake - 6 balloons - Lot of left over on the first attempt.

Well I have to admit that after 5 or 6 failed attempts I am giving up until some more clues are given as obviously the way I am going about this flower is really wrong

Yvonne have one last go & post your effort & I'll see if I can point you in the right direction.
Title: Re: August, Model Of The Month
Post by: YvonneH on July 31, 2008, 03:32:04 PM
Honestly I would be too embarrassed to post my failed attempts.  With the first one I didn't have the pinch twist in the middle   The next couple of times I had one colour burst on me and then I have not been able to get the inflation of the balloons correct.

Also having looked at the ones posted above I really think I am doing it completely wrong.  I am starting with a bubble then doing the top inside bubble, pinch twist, outer bubble and then back underneath (but slightly longer) to join back in with the centre bubble and obviously twisting in the 2nd balloon alternately.  Probably have made no sense at all but if someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

The easiest way is to tie all six balloons together & perhaps not have the pinchtwist in the middle but put the green stem there instead. Start off like the basic weaving for a hat. Can you print off a picture & number the bubbles for you to follow with each seperate colour.

6 Balloons!!! Is this the way you would do it normally Graham or is it just to make it easier as I only used 2 well 3 with the stem and did not need to break the balloons ether? I know I got the middle a little high but with another go I recon I could get it more concave. I am off down Billy Wizz's way for a week away so will try and get this right and post when I get back.

Well I think it's time to own up. This has been in my portfolio for about 4 years and is the only time I've made it so will have to go back to the drawing board to work out the easier way to make for everyone.
The 6 balloon way will be the easiest but will look into the least amount of balloons way as well :D

UPDATE
Just made the flower again & it can be made with just two balloons but is a lot easier & less confusing with six balloons
Title: Re: August, Model Of The Month
Post by: Martin on July 31, 2008, 08:45:30 PM
All my attempts were made with 2 balloons and a stem. The 6 petals seem to fit really nicely out of 2 260's and once you get your head round the weave it is easy to work out what is going on with the 2 colours.

Here come the instructions for this months flower balloon;

Inflate the green stem leaving approx 5 fingers un-inflated & either tulip twist or do two pinch twists

Inflate two more balloons so that you have approx 8 fingers un-inflated.
Tie the yellow balloon around the stem, do a 2.5 finger bubble & a 1 finger pinch twist.

Tie the orange balloon into the pinch twist & do a 5 finger bubble & twist around the stem of the flower.
Using the orange balloon do another 2.5 finger bubble followed by a 1 finger pinch twist.

With the yellow balloon do a 2.5 finger bubble & twist around the pinch twist from the orange balloon.

Post by: Graham Lee on August 17, 2008, 05:49:16 PM
Carry on with a 5 finger bubble from the yellow balloon & twist into around the green stem,
do a 2.5 finger bubble & a 1 finger pinch twist still with the yellow balloon.

Twist a 2.5 finger bubble from the orange balloon & twist around the yellow pinch twist.
You then carry on doing this another four times to end up with the flower.
Please let me know if the instructions are not too clear or you need a little more help & guidance.

And finally............ the leaves. Inflate another green balloon & make two 2 finger pinch twists followed by two 10/12 finger fold twists. Get rid of excess balloon.
Attach the leaves onto the stem

Add on's

To make the flower look deeper add another balloon, colour of your choice. I used another orange which I think makes it harder for you to follow
Attach new balloon to pinchtwist, do a 2.5 finger bubble & loop around the next pinch twist on the inside of the flower, carry on all the way around with 2.5 bubbles & attaching them around each pinchtwist, get rid of excess balloon.
You can also add the lilac balloon to the centre stem, if you like.....

i found i did it using one colour at a time forming the whole of a segment and twisting into center then on next segment do first bubble twist into pinch of completed segment and so on the only bit that is a prob is the twisting the last segment into the first pinch twist but a little bit of threading through is no hardship.  If you get what i mean! This way is less difficult to explain as you complete a segment fully, ie first segment of flower is two finger bubble, two finger bubble, pinch twist and then two finger bubble return to centre and twist into center. Second two finger bubble twist into first pinch twist, two finger bubble, pinch twist, two finger bubble and lock into center green bubble. And so forth until finished..hope this is of some use. I think that alternatives that get the same result are helpful.

Any pitures as that was as clear as mud :D
Off to try will report back shortly.

Did you also have the colours alternating on the top & bottom as well
or just yellow/orange all the way around
Title: Re: August, Model Of The Month
Post by: Graham Lee on August 22, 2008, 08:36:04 PM
OK just tried it and it worked & it was a lot easier that way as well.
The only difference is that all the pinch twists end up being the same colour, but that's not a problem.
Title: Re: August, Model Of The Month
Post by: seraphim149 on August 22, 2008, 09:46:50 PM
sorry graham i think you just found another way to do it! I tie the two balloons ie two colours for the flower to the stem or just together and pop stem in later. Then follow the instructions with segment one being first colour and second segment in the alternating colour. And so forth, then the pinch twists are different colours, i posted a pic of my final flower on previous page. Hope its a bit clearer this time!

I didn't get to try this when it was 'current' and wanted to do a dufferent flower today to give my wife and remembered this one. Here are my atempts, the orange and yellow one was the 1st attempt followed by the lilac and purple,
