Title: January 2018 Model of the Month (Shark)
Post by: Graham Lee on December 30, 2017, 10:37:20 AM
After having a break for a month when we sent out the Christmas cards
with orders we are back with the complimentary balloon packs being
sent out with orders. For January it's the two balloon shark.

There is no DVD prize as the ones we purchased way back from
The Millennium Jam have all gone now so the competition is just for fun.

I will post the instructions sometime soon,
I have changed the design slightly from this one posted.

Take the 260 grey and stretch this between your finger and thumb to make the balloon slightly longer.
Inflate leaving 6 fingers un-inflated, twist two 1.5 finger pinch twists.
Then twist a 5 finger bubble, an 8 finger bubble and another 5 finger bubble.
Twist this last section into the two pinch twists.

Make a 5 finger bubble followed by two more 1.5 finger pinch twists.

Then make a 4 finger and 2.5 finger bubble and twist into the two pinch twists.
Make another 4 finger and 2.5 finger bubble for the second tail fin.
(Although you might want to do the upper tail fin larger as per a real shark?)

Discard the rest of the 260 balloon.

Inflate the 160 and pre-stretch this the same as the 260.
Again leave 6 fingers un-inflated, make two 1 finger pinch twists.

Make a 1 finger bubble followed by a 1.5 finger pinch twist,
this will be one of the sharks eyes. Attach this between the 5 & 8 finger bubble on the 260.

Make a 2 finger bubble followed by another 1.5 finger pinch twist for the other eye.
Twist this on the other section of the 8 & 5 finger 260 bubbles.

Make a 1 finger bubble and twist into the two pinch twists.

You then need a 3 finger fold twist for the lower mouth section.

Twist a 2 finger bubble followed by a 1 finger pinch twist.
The Pectoral fin (You can see I looked up google ;-))
Twist a 4 finger and 3 finger bubble and twist into the pinch twist.

Make the other fin with a 4 finger and 3 finger bubble.
Pull the 160 balloon through the centre of the 260 body of the shark.

The dorsal fin I made a 6 finger bubble from the top of the 260 and then a 3 finger bubble.
You might like this to be slightly larger depending on what is pleasing to your eye.

Twist the 3 finger bubble into the two pinch twists.
Then make a 2 finger bubble and twist this into the 160 pinch twist.
Discard the rest of the 160 balloon.

Put a shock twist in the 5 finger rear 260 balloon so the shark has some movement.
I also like to shock twist the upper section of the mouth to give it a little more shape.

The profile look of the mouth after the shock twist.

For a genuine two balloon shark then just draw the eyes onto the pinch twists.
I prefer to add an extra 160 in black to make the eyes a little more menacing.

Make a 3 finger bubble and split into two, make sure you have some excess
between the black 1.5 finger bubbles as this will help keep the design close
together where the eyes meet the body and mouth section.

You can see the stretched 160 in black, slip this underneath the 160 bubble to hide.

Both designs, hope it is of use to some and if you have a way of
adding some menacing teeth then please post a picture.

I do try a few variations before I decide on the final design.
And no doubt it will be tweaked some more of the coming days and weeks.

I quite like the look of the extra two bubbles on top of the head section.
You can still just about get this from a 160 but in the real world it
might be better to just use another piece of balloon.

If anyone would like to post your efforts it's always nice to see.

There are quite a few shark variations on anther thread if anyone would like to take a look?
I up-sized and played around with the ideas, some go back a few years now,
