Title: June Competition (Owl)
Post by: Graham Lee on May 29, 2016, 06:56:52 PM
The Owl will be the competition for June, all orders will have a complimentary bag of balloons with enough to make the Owl
and a few spare. I will post the step by step instructions asap.

This is the complimentary pack people will receive with orders.
As usual I have put some spares in just in case.

So to start we inflate a blush 260 leaving 5 fingers un-inflated.
Push the air along a little to make it softer and make a 1 finger bubble followed by a large 4 finger fold twist.

Then make another 4 finger fold twist to match the first.
You then need a 6 finger bubble followed by a 2 finger pinch twist.

You then make three more 6 finger bubbles back and forth from the pinch twist to the two 4 finger fold twists.

Now at this point you have a choice, I use the remainder of the balloon and put a 2 finger bubble
in the end of the balloon and wrap this around the bottom pinch twist. I push the top of the bubble in
between the two outer bubbles and have a larger tummy section protruding nearer the lower section of the owl.
You can once you have four 6 finger bubbles discard the rest of this 260 balloon and use an alternating colour
to make the tummy.

Inflate the white 260 half way and twist two 3 finger bubbles.
Then make another two three finger bubbles for the other eye,
try to leave a little slack of the balloon between each eye, do not tie this tight.

I put the centre section at the back of the head and pull the eyes around to the
front before inserting into the fold twists.

Inflate the 160, in the packs I have sent a blush but made it from a mocha here on the instructions.
Leave 6 fingers un-inflated, now you could make the eyebrows and wings before finishing the body
of the owl but I prefer to make it this way.

Twist two 5 finger fold twists and wrap these into the two eye fold twists on the 260 balloon.
Make sure these are wrapped around a couple of times securely.

You then need a 1 finger spacer bubble from the fold twists to the 1 finger pinch twist,
(You are unable to see this in the picture)
From the pinch twist you need a 6 finger and a 5 finger bubble, this make the wing look a little curved.

Do the same again for the other wing, a 6 finger and 5 finger bubble secured around the pinch twist.

You have to now push one set of wings through the 260, this is why I did mention earlier you might
prefer to make the wings and then measure the body around the wings after.

Use a section of the 160 coral and make approx. a 3 finger and 2 finger bubble for the beak.
I think mine was slightly smaller but proportion it to the design you have.

Attach securely around the two eye fold twists.

The rest of the coral 160 you will need to make two 4 finger fold twists and attach these around the bottom pinch twist.

Then add some artwork.

The view of the back of the owl, and one made with a mocha tummy.
I think the owl is proportioned nicely but you might prefer to have a shorter tubbier body and slightly bigger eyes.

If you fancied a bigger eyed owl,
make the eyes two 5 finger fold twists and the body 4 fingers in length rather than 6 fingers,
it does make pushing the wings through a little more tricky though so perhaps make the body around the wings.

Well, no amount of 'try drawing a waistcoat on it' or 'put some buttons on' will be able to pretty this disaster up. Back to the drawing board with this one. Unless you were after a owl mogwai mongrel mix I'll get back to pumping some new balloons up!

A great effort Lilylou - you have the basic structure in place just need to play around with balloon sizing... give it another go... you are almost there. It certainly isn't the disaster you say it is!

This is my attempt at an owl, thanks for the instructions! I changed the colours a bit and tried to jazz the branch up a little haha. I was trying to make it look cute but I think the owl just looks angry all the time haha
