I thought we might do one of the helicopters this month, there are a more to view here. helicopter-t8176.html
I will put the instructions up for one of the models at the end of the month, would be nice to see a few have a go at the challenge before though.

I just started to do the instructions for the helicopter and thought hang on how did I build this and made it again another way so going to make it a couple more times with a tweak here and there and then I will post the instructions. This is another version I made this morning.

I'd better decide which one I will make with explanations pretty soon.

Well there are a few variations on the helicopter, the one I will detail is this one below. I added a tulip twist to the front and also in others added a pinch twist in that position.
I prefer the cleaner look but it's easier to have the pinch twist added when building the sculpture.
The look from the cockpit to the tail rotor blade is completely new, it seems every time I build a helicopter I change the design a little.

Here we go then with the helicopter, inflate  260 leaving 6 fingers un-inflated. Twist two 1 finger pinch twists, then a 4 finger bubble and a 2 finger bubble,
wrap this twist around the two pinch twists. Then make a 4 finger bubble and a 2 finger pinch twist.

You then need an 8 finger bubble and a 2 finger pinch twist. This is followed by a 4 finger bubble and then three 2 finger pinch twists.
This is where the propeller blades will fit later.
Your finished first 260 should look a little like picture 5, now inflate the next 260 leaving 6 fingers un-inflated again and join onto the three pinch twists.

This may get a little confusing so perhaps read through the instructions a couple of times,

you need a 4 finger bubble back down to the last pinch twist on the first 260 balloon, then a 3 finger bubble and a 2 finger pinch twist.
This is the lower part of the back of the cockpit.
This pinch twist is the one to tie into after the instructions below.

Then twist a 4 finger bubble and another 2 finger pinch twist followed by a 6 finger bubble, this twist goes into the 3 pinch twists on the first 260, where we
just attached the second 260 balloon too. You then repeat for the other side in reverse so a 6 finger bubble, a 2 finger pinch twist and a 4 finger bubble.
This gets twisted into the lower pinch twist that will be the lower centre part of the cockpit.

You then make a 3 finger bubble that attaches to the centre pinch twist, centre of the back of the cockpit.
There should be two sets of double bubbles at the back of the cockpit. The lower section of the back of the cockpit is 3 fingers in length and the top should be two 4 finger bubbles.

I have used in the past a clear heart for the cockpit or a 5" round but for this I'm using a 6" Quick Link, inflate to the size required, mine was between a 4/5".

The knot of the quick link goes under the 3 pinch twists and attaches from behind so to leave a natural gap for the 160 to fit into later for the centre of the helicopter cockpit.

Inflate a 160 for the rear blades, I twisted two 3 finger fold twists and a 1 finger pinch twist.
Then a 2 finger spacer bubble that twists around the rear pinch twist from the first 260 balloon we inflated.

Then another 2 finger spacer bubble that twists back into the 160 pinch twist between the two fold twists. Inflate the 160 grey and attach to the 3 pinch twists where the blades will fit later, I made an 8 finger bubble and twisted the nipple of the quick link at this twist. If you make a knot in the nipple it will all hold more securely and will not slip out. You could make a small 1 finger pinch twists here as in the previous helicopters I made at the beginning of this thread.

I added a tulip twist right at the end to this design, there are a few ways to do this so whatever is more pleasing to your eye I'm sure will work.

You then need a 5/6 finger bubble depending on the size of your quick link, this twists into the grey 260 pinch twist. The helicopter skies will fit here later as well, then make a 4 finger bubble and attach this to the pinch twist in the middle of the double bubbles at the back of the cockpit. I did move the pinch twist out the way when I took the picture but it is there between the two double bubbles, you can see it in picture 17.

New addition, this part was new for me on this sculpture, I made a small 1 finger bubble then a 1 finger pinch twist and then wrapped the 160 around the rear section of the 260 balloon and back into the pinch twist. I then made a 1 finger bubble and twisted this into the 260 pinch twist between the two double bubbles at the back of the cockpit. It helps hold the two sections together nicely.

You then make a 4 finger bubble across to the other 260 grey pinch twist that the other helicopter ski will fit to later and then a 5 finger bubble back to the front of the cockpit and attack to the nipple quick link, discard the rest of the 160 grey.

Inflate a 160 for the blades and pre-stretch this as you need a good length here, twist two 8 finger bubbles and then a 1 finger pinch twist, lock the first rotor blade into the pinch twist. Then make another two 8 finger bubbles, lock into the pinch twist and then the last two 8 finger bubbles. The remainder of the 160 black you need a 2 finger bubble and tie off, this is then twisted into the three pinch twists.

The skis are a 4 finger fold twist followed with a 1 finger pinch twist, you then have a 2 finger spacer bubble.
