Post by: Graham Lee on November 03, 2010, 11:08:49 PM
Ok It's a you decide one, I can either post two variations on a bird come duck or it can be a scooter.
The one with the most votes will be posted Friday Morning before I leave for The Millennium Jam

By my reckoning the scooter has it by 4 to 3 as I never counted Dennis  :D

While sorting out the scooter picture I found this hat that must have been made 6/8 years ago, how time flies. It may be of use to some with a bit of modification.

Any chance of a front view of the scooter - or do we just make it up?
(Great scooter by the way!  Looking forward to doing it tomorrow)
Thanks
Lisa

Okay...here is my version of the scooter.  I forgot the brake on the back though...oops.  I moved the handlebars back a little on the 2nd picture.  I also made a version of the scooter hat...I really like that one, thanks for sharing it!

Apologies for the poor photos - I will try again latter in natural light

does a Vespa count as a scooter?

I don't know...but that's pretty cool :-)

I'm not happy with it.

The rear wheel attachment is not very sold, and rear light not right.

Also I wanted a headlamp in the handlebars, but was lost for inspiration.

I think you could put a headlight on the front very easily.  What if you, on the center balloon, made a bubble from the top about 6" long, and attached a headlight there?  You could put a pinchtwist on the inside to hold it in place (maybe 2 if one is not sturdy).   Did that make sense?
I can't see the rear light, so I can't give you any ideas there.   I think it is a very good design.  Has a lot of potential :-)

Ok here goes...finally found out how to upload images and I decided to have a go at the scooter (especially since I voted for it!). Here's my attempt, I am fairly impressed seeing as it is a first go just a shame I ran out of balloons to do the tyres the way I wanted to but hey, they are nearly roundish...

Here are the instructions for November;

Inflate the 260 white to about half way and twist two 2 finger bubbles and twist together. Do the same another five times so that you have the six spoke inner wheel.
Repeat for the rear wheel.

Inflate a black 260 to a 4 finger bubble and make into an apple/tulip twist and then split this into two. Insert into the centre of the wheel, make another one for the rear wheel.

You can either use a 160/260 for the wheel tyre, in the instructions it is a 260 black to approx 16 finger length tied around the inner wheel. (See *** later)

Mirrors,
Use a grey or silver 260 with two 2 finger bubbles twisted together followed by two 1.5 finger pinch twists, then wrap the 260 over the c3entre of the first two 2 finger bubbles.

The finished mirror should look something like the first picture;

Just put a puff of air into two red and yellow 260's which will be the tassels on the handle bars. Inflate a blue 260 to about half way and tie the red/yellow balloons to the 260.

Make a 2 finger tulip/apple twist followed by two 1 finger bubbles, repeat for the second handlebar.
Twist a 4 finger bubble in the handle bar balloon and attach the mirrors, the mirror sits nicer if the two pinch twists face opposite directions.
Picture 2 and 3 show the pinch twists from either side.
Twist another four finger bubble and then twist a 2 finger pinch twist.

Repeat the above steps for the other side of the handle bars and twist both the pinch twists around each other in the centre, use the shorter balloon to add a third pinch twist and then discard the rest of this balloon.
Use the longest 260 from the handle bar for the upright stem from the front wheel to the handle bars, this must be very firm so push the air back into the balloon before tying a knot at the end. (You could even double stuff a 260 to make this an even firmer/tighter upright as the weight on the handle bars can make the scooter a bit top heavy)
Inflate another blue 260 and twist two 2 finger pinch twists and twist into the 260 tyre joint,
(*** It may be better to have the 260 for the tyre with two pinch twists on the tyre in black rather than the pinch twists being made from the blue framework balloon)
Twist the upright section firmly into these two pinch twists, the upright is approx 16 fingers long.
The jump board on the model shown is approx 16 fingers long as well, then twist two 2 finger pinch twists.

Attach the rear wheel to these pinch twists and then twist another 16 finger bubble around the front wheel pinch twists, break off any access balloon.
The brake is made from a 160 with a deep hook twist of 4/5 finger length, then twist two 1 finger pinch twists followed by a 1 finger bubble twisted into the back wheel double pinch twists. Then twist the last 1 finger bubble back into the pinch twists behind the deep hook twist made from the 160's.

The jump board could have a un-inflated 260 to hold the two 260's together or you could even double stuff a 260 into a 646 for one smooth jump board.
If anyone else does make the scooter then please post some pictures, thanks.

I was meant to be going up to the magic circle tonight but with the underground on strike decided to stay at home, so at a loose end decided to make the jump board with the double stuffing technique, the board is approx 18 fingers long.

Will keep trying!

Sry it took so long!

Well it looks a reasonable effort to me  :D  and thanks for having a go,
the only difference I can see is the mirrors on my scooter are where you have just the pinch twist on the handle bars.

I have been working my way through the Model of the Month.  This is the scooter I did last night.  Kids loved it.  My daughter claimed it for her dolls.  Model of the Month is a fun challenge.

Right behind you yet again Rainbow.  I really liked this one because I never managed a good "hook twist" before.
