Title: October Competition (Penguin)
Post by: Graham Lee on September 27, 2016, 09:34:27 AM
This month it's the good old penguin, this design came about from the swan.

I was at an event making the swan and having a lot of 350 orange left as you only
use the tip of a 350 orange for the swans beak. september-competition-swan-t10755.html (http://balloonchat.co.uk/september-competition-swan-t10755.html)

So on the spot I wanted to use the 350 orange up and this is what we made.

I must mention for many years I was using Thelma Levett's Penguin design so this obviously
is heavily influenced by that design, hope it is of help to some.

I will post the step by step instructions later in the week.

This is what will be in the complimentary bags of balloons that will go out
with all orders in October. If you make the design then please post it here to be in
with a chance of winning a balloon modelling DVD of your choice form the list we have.

If you do not buy from us then please still have a go and post your penguin, would be nice to see.

I will be posting the step by step instructions later.

Here we go then with the penguin instructions.

Inflate the black 350 and leave 5 fingers un-inflated and tie the balloon off.
I then squeeze the air along a little so there is only a 4 finger un-inflated section.

Make a 6 finger fold twist, wrap the knot of the balloon at least twice through the fold twist to secure.

Then make a 6 finger bubble for part of the penguins front body followed by a 2 finger pinch twist.

Make another 6 finger bubble for the other section of the front section of the penguin and twist this
around underneath the 6 finger fold twist.

You then make a 7 finger bubble and twist into the pinch twist,
this should leave you approx. a 3/4 finger bubble for the penguins tail.

Inflate the white 350, only about half way.
Twist two 4 finger bubbles for the eyes and tie the balloon through the centre a couple of times to secure.

Wrap these around underneath the 6 finger fold twist you made in the black 350.

You then need between a 7/8 finger bubble for the front section of the penguin.
I like this to look fuller, wrap this into the black pinch twist.

Discard the rest of the white 350.

You could possible get two sets of eyes/tummy from the one 350 white.

Inflate the orange 160 approx. half way and make a 7 finger fold twist,
this has to be a little bigger then you would think to protrude over the 350 tummy and head section.

Again you can get two beaks/cheeks form the one 160 orange balloon.

Then make two 4/5 finger bubbles for the cheeks and make them into two pinch/fold twists
by taking the centre of the two 4/5 finger bubbles and twisting them into the 7 finger fold twist.

Twist the beak section around the black 350 head fold twist and position the two
small pinch/fold twists underneath each eye.

Inflate the 350 orange about half way and make two 5 finger fold twists.
Tie up the balloon and discard the rest.

You could possibly get two sets of feet from the 350 orange balloon.

Attach the centre of the two orange fold twists around the black pinch twist.

The black pinch twist should sit sideways on as in the picture with the tail section
of the penguin protruding from the back.

Then add some artwork, normally I just use a black marker but for
these instructions I had a play with the blue pen as well.

The rear black bubble is slightly bigger then the front two to give that fuller rounder effect.

A couple of extra penguins I made, they all look a little different.

The centre penguin I tried a 260 for the cheek and beak,
I though it looked to big but you might prefer it that way.

Good luck and please post your effort if you do make it................Thanks.
