My old camera has been playing up since twist & shout and it's time to get a new one.
I just googled review, best digital camera and the one that keeps coming up is a canon IXUS 80
with what looks like good reviews.
So was just wondering if anyone on the forum is a bit of a camera buff and has any other suggestions as I need to get this ASAP.

I have the hp photosmart R937 which was OK but not very good when zooming in although it has a 3X optical zoom but built within the camera.

I am not sure about that one, but I can tell you, I have a Canon PowerShot A620 7.1 mega pixels  4x zoom... and it has worked like a charm for me. I love it.

Sorry I am not any help on this one you mention, but it is a Canon, and I am sure it will be just a great... better even.

decide how much you want to spend the get the one you like in that price range
the Sony T90 is fantastic a bit pricey but worth it check it out at

i have the T30 & i think its the bees knees have you thought of a DSLR a big leaning curve involved & you have to be into photography but very rewarding

I have a Sony Cybershot which I like a lot.  The good thing is it takes pictures really quickly so you can catch the kid before they run off  ;)

the best advice i got was to get a spare battery!

Also worth thinking about where the photos will go. Do you really need 7 million pixels if the photo are coming on here?

its great when you have the camera ...and you ask the mom to take a photo for you.. for your scrapbook.. then  print it out and send it back to them as a thank you.

Is that optical or digital zoom Graham?  It's just that if you are going to get a camera with a good zoom it needs to be optical as the digital you can do yourself on the computer afterwards so no point paying extra for digital zoom  ;)

I am sure you will like it Graham, I love my Canon - and when the time comes to get a new one, I would feel comforatble getting another Canon.  My dream is a SLR, but that is dreaming. ..   I could buy lots of balloons for the price of one of those cameras.

It's all ordered and I got the extra bundle as well. Spare battery, camera case and memory card. I'll just have to wait patiently as my old camera is being picked up today to go back to the manufacturer so will be without a camera for a few days.
Yvonne could you tell me how to wait patiently

Don't know what you want to spend but I thought this was pretty cool camera:

ith the Casio EX-FH20 you can capture an amazing 40 high resolution, 7 megapixel images in one second providing more images to choose from than a DSLR.
Get close to the action with the 20 time optical zoom starting at 26mm wide-angle. A push of a button enables you to shoot high definition 720p video and switch to high speed slow motion video. You can capture in 30-210fps, 420fps, and 1,000fps. At 1,000fps you can catch movement that you cannot see with the naked eye.

Key Features:

High-speed burst shooting captures 40 still images per second
High-speed movie recording up to 1000 fps
20x Optical Zoom
Wide Angle 26 mm Lens
9.1 Megapixel Resolution
3.0" Super Clear LCD

It will take 2 minutes of 1,000 frame per second movie. It would be great for my next DVD when everyone says can you slow it down?

Well that seemed pretty painless, batery charged, taken a few pictures, installed software, downloaded them onto the computer.
All systems seem to be a OK.
So I'm already to rock & roll.
