Picture Gallery / Balloon Caricature for Sky's Soccer AM
September 10, 2010, 03:01:13 PM
Just thought I'd shear this with you all. Got a call from Sky's Soccer AM show asking if I could do a model of a Boxer for one of the segments in tomorrow's (11/09/2010) show. After confirming they didn't want a boxer dog I went to the studio and this is what I came up with. A caricature of David Haye's or if you like Audley Harrison. I'm pleased with it and so are they.

Picture Gallery / Pooh
April 21, 2009, 09:50:31 AM
In all the years I've been balloon modelling I have never made a reasonable looking Pooh bear. Until now, I think. Please let me know in all honesty what you all think. Do I need to go back to the drawing board or can I stick with this until I get the speed up? At this one took 8 minutes to make and is 5 balloons plus some end bits.

Balloon Chit Chat / Sad news
January 23, 2009, 03:51:23 PM
I have just hard some sad news today. Lyle Balcom aka The Wacky Wizard has passed away. If you are from Florida and in particular Orlando you may know of him. He is the guy who started me off on my balloon modelling career. He had a residency at the Holiday Inn in Disney World and over the years gave thousands of visitors so much joy with his balloons and wacky magic. He also had a vedio and I belive a DVD out. If anyone has a copy of them I would so like to see them.
I owe him my career and so much more. He will be sadly missed not only by me but all that knew him.

Picture Gallery / Hobbyhorse Reindeer
December 05, 2008, 09:46:27 AM
Don't know if anyone else has come up with this. Probably someone has some where.
After playing with making the Santa model yesterday I thought I would try a quick small reindeer. Problem was I got a head I liked but the body kept looking like a Camel. (Which is good as I don't do a good Camel.) Any way it suddenly stuck me. How about a hobbyhorse Reindeer. So here it is.

I have been approached by Insight Radio to see if I could put them in touch with a balloon twister in the Glasgow area. Insight Radio is a National Radio station for the blind. Apparently they have a feature on a Friday called Fun Friday or something like that. Any way they are after someone who could teach the presenter (Who is also blind) how to make a balloon animal. I think the segment is going to be done next Thursday. That's about all I know. So if you are in that area and would like to give it a go please call Jill Bialy 0141 3573518.

Also could you let me know if you are able to help so if I haven't heard anything from any of you I can call her back and let her know that I was unsuccessful in finding any one?

Thanks.

Balloon Chit Chat / Richard and Judy TV Show
November 04, 2008, 05:43:46 PM
Call me stupid but I have just turned down a job to appear on Richard and Judy because they didn't want to pay the going rate. They want three balloon modellers and have already got two balloon modellers. No idea who they are though.

Any way they are doing a thing for National balloon week and are recording a segment tomorrow to be broadcast on Friday.
So if you are one of the guys who is already going to it for free good luck. But just look at the response on the post about the BBC wanting people like us to work for nothing or just expenses. We are professionals and should be treated as such. I'm sure Richard and Judy aren't doing it for nothing or just expenses so why should we.

I'm feeling better now I have got that of my chest.

Hi one and all.
I have had a web space for sometime doing nothing called Balloon Modelling UK.
http://www.balloonmodellinguk.co.uk
I know modelling is spelt with one L, but the highest amount of searches on Google use two.
Any way, I have found a use for it and for all of you if you want.
I have put a photo gallery on it using gallery2 software and it is for anyone who would like to display their work.  You can display your photos for all to see or restrict to registered user only or have it so only you can see it when you yourself log on.
You can upload as many photos as you like as the server has unlimited disk space within reason.
Photos can be any size but in practice I have found that images lager than 1500px don't produce thumbnails on the album page.

I hope it will be of use to you all and you take advantage of it.

By the way I don't have any links to my own site I only have Lord Geoffrey Balloon Guy album.

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Movie related balloons
October 09, 2008, 11:20:19 AM
Hi all. I am doing a job tomorrow evening (Friday 10th) based on the movies and have just been asked if I could make anything movie related. I have just made this and I know it should be on a red carpet and in gold but I have nether.
Any way do any of you have any idea of any other movie things I might be able to make? Can't be too big or complicated (4 or 5 balloons max). I won't have a lot of time to make it as I am going around the tables. This one I will pre make and have it as a display on the way in.

Thanks in advance.

Balloon Chit Chat / Sky Tv Soccer AM
October 04, 2008, 09:26:22 PM
Not as exciting as Graham's day but I was asked to make some balloon creation for Sky Soccer AM. So went to the studio this morning at 8.30 and made a load but these were the favourites. The idea was that the presenters and guest made them while they were supposed to be listening to a very boring referee talking about something technical about football. Then after the show spent another hour make stuff for the crew. I had a good day and I still know nothing about football

Balloon Chit Chat / A suggestion for Graham
July 04, 2008, 08:28:12 PM
Can you have a word with the person who tweaks the forum and see if he can add code so that when you click on a web page link, it opens a new window instead of taking you away from the forum. Make life a lot easier than right clicking on the link and selecting new window or tab.
Thanks.

Hey three post tonight. Who's not working tonight?

Balloon Chit Chat / Danger Money
June 30, 2008, 07:20:55 PM
 I just thought I would relate an incident that happened to me this Saturday just gone.
I was working for a client at Richmond Athletics ground and the afternoon was coming to an end. Just fifteen minutes left to go.
All of a sudden, I got bottled by a five year old girl.  It would seem she was trying to knock my hat of and as I am a lot taller than a five year old, she got an empty Cola bottle and jumped up and hit good and proper on the nose, sending me backwards seeing stars. The next thing I know, the other children around me are saying my nose is bleeding. I said I've got to go and get it cleaned up and, like a real trooper I'll be back to finish off.
The thing that got me was her parents were no more than 3 feet away and they didn't say a thing to the girl or me.

So now I'm thinking instead of clients asking us if we have public liability insurance we should be asking them if the guest have got it.

Looking back now it does seem funny a six foot one grown man being floored be a five year old girl.
The joys of balloon twisting.

Picture Gallery / One balloon Tiger
May 28, 2008, 01:22:16 PM
Looking through the posts from the Ashford Kent Day, I noticed a comment about changing the ears of the rabbit and it will be a tiger. So I thought I would post a picture of my one balloon tiger for you. If any of you won't to see how to make it I will upload the step by step photos to a hidden page on my web site and you can down load the from there. Please let me know if you would like to do this.
