Balloon Chit Chat / oooh Owww!
May 18, 2010, 06:27:17 PM
Our village had a street party on Sunday a World War Two theme celebrating the anniversary of VE day - good weather meant a good turn out, I stood in the street for 4 1/2 hours twisting non-stop, I'm just about getting the feeling back in my hands and legs  fortunately I was next to the pub and they had an outdoor bar going so I could stay 'hydrated' ;)

A couple of people asked for cards and one of them called today with an offer of 6 gigs, - if we can agree terms that's what I call a result

Balloon Chit Chat / The power of balloons
March 17, 2009, 11:25:12 AM
For Comic relief I made a few flowers and put them on reception at work - they went like hot cakes and raised £50.00 - not bad for a small office and I also got two bookings from doing that.

When I made the flowers at home my wife asked me to do some for her to take into work so I did 30 small flowers out of 160s which she carried  in a couple of carrier bags - as she walked along the road two cars stopped and asked to buy a flower, kids were pointing out of car windows at her too - hopefully because of the balloons  :D  :D she got rid of the lot also for about £50.00 and today I've had calls from two of her colleagues to do a couple of Mothers Day bouquets  :D

Balloon Chit Chat / I've been recruiting
July 28, 2008, 09:31:30 AM
I seem to be recruiting people to twisting balloons now - a colleague on the radio station I work at is now a keen twister and came with me to the Birmingham Care and Share.

Now a colleague at the day job is twisting too - just for the family but he has the  bug - now his four year old grand daughter can twist a basic dog and a swan and can even turn the dog into a giraffe by swizzling the bubbles around  :D There will be a competition / punch up to see which of us can get the day off work to go the Northampton Care and Share  ;)

I got Thelma's CD - or files rather this morning - I have to say I'm impressed  :D

I've already tried a couple out - I have to practice these because she lives five minutes away and is likely to come round and test me on them  :D  :D  and yes Thelma - I know I missed the final twist on the rabbits feet  *stands in corner*

I have to admit it took a couple of goes to get the rabbit done - witness the first picture

Balloon Tutorial & Help / a basic 'palette'
May 27, 2008, 10:04:41 AM
As i get more into twisting I will probably need to buy more single colours as opposed to the mixed bags I've been using up till now.

Any suggestions on a good basic colour 'palette'  to stock a busking bag for line work / busking??

What else is in your bag / box apart from the balloons??

Graham...

Don't reply to this because you'll probably suggest ten bags of every colour you stock in 160. 260 and 360's

Graham asked for more on here so here goes - although, so far, I'm relatively inexperienced with balloons I am keen to develop this side of things.

At work (the day job) we sometimes get these book club type things where they leave a pile of books and you can buy them next time they come round - about a year ago there was a small book on balloon modeling along with a few balloons so I thought it would be a good idea to learn some basics to keep kids happy when I do a family disco or children's party and so I bought the book.

The balloons were a bit cheap and nasty but it got me hooked I got some more balloons and another book and flooded the kitchen with flowers, swords, dogs etc- the wife was delighted   . The reaction you get when you get the balloons out at a gig is amazing - the kids reaction on getting even a simple model. Talking of reactions I do have to apologise to the lady who turned round at the wrong moment in a disco - she saw me busy pumping up a pink 260 and couldn't actually see the pump - just my arm and the pink 260 appearing over the top of the desk - the poor lady nearly fell off her chair!

I am keen to learn more starting at the Birmingham Care and Share next week,I shall have to pay attention to the lectures as I got booked for my first 'walk about' gig last night, a fete organiser called to book a disco for their carnival queen night and I asked if they had anyone doing balloons at the fete - well she has now!!  :D  :D

I'm really pleased about that because the few 'twisting only' gigs I've got so far were from people asking for my card at one of my discos, they've gone well but this is a whole new thing for me - wish me luck
