Balloon Chit Chat / Re: Twisting with a broken ankle

You poor thing. Hopefully you'll be back on your feet in no time.

I've had a query today via email for 3 twisters in South Herts from 10am to 4pm. Very vague at this moment in time but before I go back and ask for more information I thought I would see if there are 2 others that are available.

If you are free that day please could you email me at mailto:yvonne@loonyballoony.co.uk">yvonne@loonyballoony.co.uk with your rates for that length of time. Also if I don't know you could you also include a link to your website / facebook page or somewhere where I can see what sort of balloons you make.

Many thanks

It really depends on the size of the box. The balloon in a box boxes are reasonably small compared to the size you need for some models. I have been charged £6 plus for 1st class parcel and all because the box was apparently too big to be sent as a package. I think it also depends on the PO but I would not rely on their website as I often post balloon models and have yet to be charged the same amount as they have stated on their site!!!

They arrive just fine but you will pay a reasonable amount to post it as it goes on the size of the box more than the weight.

Mine did actually arrive yesterday but only just found enough time to get it out of it's wrapping. Very pleased they listened last time about most people not liking it with no envelope or protection around the magazine.

Any good experienced twister knows their worth but agencies like these prey on people. They pay on large company's greed to save a few pounds and they prey on twisters desperation for work / income. I am fortunate enough not to be the main breadwinner in my family and can afford to be somewhat picky about what jobs I will and will not take.

Personally these days I prefer not to work for agents. I find as a general rule (although obviously not always the case) the money is not great, it takes ages after the job to be paid (and I wouldn't accept this off a direct booked client so why should I from them?) and often those booking you for the job have no real understanding of what it is that we do so cannot properly relay our needs to the client.

Then there is also the risk of never getting paid! I have heard of a few agencies going under during this recession and of lots of people that will now never get paid for work they have carried out.

Personally I will continue to either work for myself or those I know and trust at an hourly rate of my choosing and will continue to insist on payment either in advance or on the day.  At least then if I break my own rules and get stung it is only myself to blame.  ;)

.... and there endth the sermon  :D

I know the  ;)  :D  kind of gave that away! Still wanted to make the point in case anyone else really thought I had made "off" comments though. I also know I'm not alone in having voiced my displeasure to Qualatex over this. People have been posting on FB for months about not only the lack of magazine but the lack of communication over it.

Anyone who has it already what season are the balloons for?

Nothing I have written is incorrect (or else just personal opinion) and nothing I wouldn't (and in some cases already have) said directly to them via FB.

They caused a lot of controversy a year or two back on Face Painting Chat by offering full day jobs at £100 for face painters and £120 for twisters. Unfortunately, they have continued in this vein ever since and I hope their sabbatical is because they were finding it impossible to find enough people new enough or naive enough to work a full day for that.

Mine is still not here!

Last issue all the European ones seemed to come from Germany! So really who knows when we will see the next issue as recently it took nearly 2 weeks to get a small package from Sweden to the UK, okay we had the bank holiday in the middle but that was still 9 working days!

I'll be very unhappy if they don't a they were very quick to remind me my subscription had expired & take my money the real end of last year. So for my 2 year subscription I have had no issues in 6 months.
#13
Being a cynic I just wonder if it really will be 2 more issues or whether we will just get the 6 months tracked on the end so that we get the regular number of copies.

Well they were apparently shipped a while ago but no sign over here and I've not seen the usual exclamations all over their FB wall or Qualatex' either even from those in America who should have gotten theirs a while back.

Balloon Chit Chat / Re: Penquins in line work?

I love making penguins, especially when I have a queue as it is impressive but still quick. Also to help speed myself up I pre-cut a load of white 260's and have them in a pocket in my apron ready.
